Automotive manometers: purpose, types, description

Automotive manometers are devices designed to measure tire pressure in a car. These devices are almost every inveterate motorist. In modern premium cars, automobile pressure gauges (sensors for pressure monitoring) are included in the standard equipment.

It is recommended to carry out tire pressure measurement on a regular basis, since different pressures affect the course stability of the vehicle. In this case, when braking, the car leads to the side. Low tire pressure results in heavy rubber wear, which increases the stopping distance and fuel consumption of the car, slower the speed.

Automotive manometers are of two types: analog and digital

Analog devices are devices that have a dial with an arrow indicating the level of pressure in the tire of the car. Automotive gauges of analog type are considered more reliable. If you use these devices carefully and correctly, they will provide fairly accurate readings. Nevertheless, it should be noted that mechanical pressure gauges have the following feature: when the pressure level approaches the upper limit of the measured range of the instrument, it significantly increases the error. Despite this drawback, analog gauges are quite popular among motorists - they are in high demand. These devices have a relatively low cost.

The digital car manometer displays the result of the measurement on the liquid crystal display. The popularity of such devices lies in the convenience of displaying the measured values in user-defined units of measurement. It is believed that the digital device gives more accurate readings than an analog manometer. Electronic car pressure meter can be one of three classes of accuracy of issued indications. The first class of digital manometers has a measurement accuracy of 1 to 0.5, the second - from 0.5 to 0.1, and the third class - to 0.05. Therefore, before you buy an electronic device for measuring tire pressure, you need to decide for yourself what accuracy of the indications you need to get. The price of a digital manometer varies from one and a half thousand to tens of thousands of rubles. The cost of pressure sensors depends on the accuracy of the instrument measurements, functionality, overall dimensions, as well as on the characteristics of the product body (strength, ergonomics). The disadvantage of automobile electronic pressure gauges are the batteries for start-up. It is always necessary to have spare batteries, which can cause significant inconvenience to the car enthusiast. In conclusion, we list a few recommendations for measuring tire pressure in your car:

  • Carry out an inspection at least two or three times a week;
  • Determine the tire pressure only in cold wheels;
  • To obtain accurate data, it is recommended that the procedure be performed several times;
  • It is forbidden to clean the pressure gauges with a damp cloth - this leads to damage to the instrument and its readings become inaccurate.
