All-Russian Day of Informatics

Today it is impossible to imagine a world without information technology. Computers and other digital technology have become an integral part of our lives, helping not only to ease everyday routine, but also to move science forward. That is why the day of informatics took its rightful place in the series of professional holidays.

What is informatics?

If we talk about the day of computer science, it is worthwhile to figure out what it is. The very term "computer science" was coined by the German Karl Steinbuch. It was formed by merging two words describing the essence of her research - "information" and "automation".

Until the middle of the last century, European countries did not have a single name for the scientific field, which studies data and computer technology. "Computer Science", "Management Science", "Fundamentals of Scientific Information", even "Informology" and "Dataology" - all these are separate specialties or constituent parts of computer science, describing one or more of its areas.

In Russia, the term "informatics" in different years had several meanings. First, it is the collection, storage and analytical processing of information contained in documents. Secondly, the science of the use of computers, studying information processes occurring in society, nature and technology.

Background of Informatics

Considering the prehistory of computer science, we can distinguish several stages of its development. The very first and universal way of communicating information to each other became oral speech. This can be considered a prerequisite for the emergence of informatics. However, oral transmission proved to be very imperfect and highly dependent on the human factor. The development of writing partially eliminated this problem, allowing information to be stored in much larger volumes and transmitted over long distances via mail.

The beginning of printing has become a new milestone in the development of information technology. Now the data could be stored and reproduced on an industrial scale. Finally, the scientific and technological revolution gave the opportunity to transmit information via telephone, telegraph, television, and radio. Photos and movies helped to store data not only in spoken and written, but also in visual form. In addition, you can now save information on magnetic media.

Development of Informatics

In fact, the day of informatics can be celebrated together with the date of the appearance of the very first computer, because without computer technology it would be impossible to create informatics as a science.

There is one property of modern computers that allows you to process and store information in a universal form. The fact is that the computer processes the data in the form of a binary code, regardless of the brand, version or year of its release. In this case, it does not matter in what form the information will be displayed: text, numbers, video, audio - all this is broken up inside the computer by zeros and ones, and then collected again.

Now computer science as a science has united several different technical disciplines: from cybernetics and programming to information protection, mathematical modeling. That is why informatics day in Russia can celebrate not only computer science teachers, but also system administrators, programmers and even accountants.

The birth of informatics in Russia

Why is December 4, the day of informatics, celebrated in Russia? It all started in the late 1940s, when a lot of publications devoted to electronic computers began to appear in foreign journals. Academician I.S. Brook became very interested in this topic and decided to participate in the seminar dedicated to her.

Together with BI. Rameev (at that time he was an engineer and his junior assistant), Brooke developed an automatic digital machine. It happened in August 1948. In October of the same year, these scientists proposed a project on the basis of the Academy of Sciences of a special laboratory that would develop and build a digital computer. After only a few months, IS. Brook and BI Rameev were officially registered as inventors of the first Soviet computer. With this paper issued on December 4, 1948, the development of computer technology in the Soviet Union began. From that moment it is considered that December 4 is the day of informatics in Russia.

How is the day of informatics celebrated in Russia?

By tradition, once a year, on December 4, the day of informatics in Russia is celebrated in schools and various educational institutions. At the lessons, an action is held dedicated to this holiday called "World code hour". This is done so that as many students as possible are interested in information technology, information technologies, and to enhance the prestige of the IT sphere.

Officially Informatics Day is not considered a day off, as are other professional dates. However, everyone, whose work is slightly connected with this exact science, can consider it their holiday.

Congratulations on the day of informatics

If on the calendar December 4, the day of informatics, it is necessary to congratulate those employees, acquaintances or relatives who are connected with this science. Do not forget about the inconspicuous workers who make your office work: they are system administrators, programmers and just technical support specialists. After all, if you rarely see them, it means that these people perfectly perform their work and the office functions like a clock.

Well, if it happened that you yourself work in the IT field, then be sure to congratulate all colleagues, because they are, in one way or another, connected with computer science. And how to do it depends on your creativity.
