Airport "Severny" (Novosibirsk): in memory of the former glory

The Severny Airport was founded in 1929 and is located in the Zaeltsinsky district of the city of Novosibirsk. For eighty-two years of his existence, he "saw" a lot. During the terrible years of the Great Patriotic War, it was a rear-end airport, actively developing in the post-war years. In 1959 the terminal building was built. It is this time can rightly be considered the flowering of the airport. In 1959 a second airport was built in Novosibirsk under the name "Tolmachevo".

Secondary roles

Airport "Severny" (Novosibirsk) changed its status and moved to the background. Although in those days he was very fond of the townspeople. Soon it began to be operated for the needs of small aircraft with the status of "city airport". Novosibirsk gradually got used to the secondary role of the "Northern", which served regional and local airlines. He also took sports aircraft. In many ways, such a decline in the status of the airport "North" (Novosibirsk) deserved because of its location. After all, he is in the city, and, subject to the north-west wind, the planes are forced to go into the landing, flying over the center of Novosibirsk, which, of course, did not fail to affect the safety of flights.

Arsenal of the airfield

Airport "North" (Novosibirsk) had in its arsenal three runways. The covering of one was of asphalt concrete, the other two strips were ground.

Airport "Severny" (Novosibirsk) was able to receive the following aircraft: An-2, 12, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 38, 72, 74, Yak-40 and L-410, all types of helicopters. The flights were mostly operated by An-24 planes to Abakan, Nizhnevartovsk, Novokuznetsk, Novy Urengoy, Salekhard, Khanty-Mansiysk and other cities.

Change of ownership

The airport is also famous for its aircraft repair plant, which has eight Mi-8 helicopters. Since 2005, the airport's owner is the open joint-stock company Novosibirsk-Avia. Sports flights on the airplanes of the Novosibirsk air clubs became the main specialization of the Severny airport. A significant event was the holding of the World Aerobatics Championship in 2008. All flights were carried out on the Yak-52 aircraft. It was a celebration of sport aviation, aerial acrobatics and parachuting, forever adding an airplane to history.

Retired

Currently the airport is closed. This was largely due to the sharp deterioration of the situation in the nineties. Decrease in the number of air transportation, loss-making transactions in the sale of property, misuse and inefficient use of budgetary funds led to bankruptcy of the enterprise and sale of property. Gradually, the airport "Tolmachevo" won the first priority, thanks to its more favorable location, modern technological equipment. From 01.02.2011 the airport "Severny" (Novosibirsk) is closed and does not function.

In the architectural plan for the city's construction, it is planned to erect a residential microdistrict with the same name on the site of the Severny airport. And the building of the air terminal was decided to be left as a historical monument.
