Adjustment and connection scheme of the motion sensor for lighting

Progress never stands still and helps a person to get a higher level of comfort. Very popular today is the motion sensor to turn on the lighting. Its main features and functions will be discussed later.

What is a motion sensor?

The motion sensor is a specialized device that can rightfully be referred to detection devices. The basic principle of its work is that at the moment the object hits the coverage area, it fixes the motion with the help of built-in sensors and transmits the signal to the lamp, after which it turns on. The use of such devices is almost indispensable in large homes. For example: there is a long corridor in which lamps of illumination with the gauge of movement in the beginning and in the end are established. When a person enters the room, it immediately fixes and turns on the lighting. After the object is removed, the lamps are turned off.

Main types of sensors

To date, there are such types of motion sensors for lighting: devices for rooms (internal) and for the street (external). There are also sensors according to the type of signaling device and the place of installation.

The principle of operation of a street signaling device is mainly to calculate the distance. Such a device is engaged in monitoring in a certain section of the yard and is very convenient for use in private cottages and warehouses. The motion sensor for street lighting has a wide range of coverage - from 100 to 500 meters. Also, there are devices that can operate at much greater distances. For these signaling devices, spotlights of a certain type are very often needed, so be careful when choosing devices.

The room or household sensor can be installed anywhere in the apartment. The main difference between him and the street apparatus is that he does not tolerate sudden temperature changes.

Also, these devices can be divided, depending on the mounting location on the wall and ceiling. These devices differ in the way they are placed, and they are not the same across the range of the signal for capture. The ceiling sensor has a much greater momentum, but the wall sensor can also be mounted on the street.

Main characteristics

The direct light from the lamps must not be directed to the installed sensor. In the area of propagation of impulses it is desirable to get rid of foreign objects that will interfere with the correct operation of the device. Also, in the control zone of the device there should be no partitions, even made of glass, since they will negatively affect the motion detector itself for lighting. The characteristics that are basic to the device are the range of detection and movement. For proper operation, the rays must reach all corners of the room. If this is not the case, then it will be necessary to put several devices so that you can capture the entire space.

For a rectangular room, you need sensors with only pie charts that are crossed. In general, all devices today have oval or circular detection circuits.

Area of application of motion sensors

Most often these devices are used by those who are used to trusting technology and want to transfer to this useful device control over the lighting of the necessary place at a certain time. Sensors help not to stumble in the dark, groping stationary switches, and also, if necessary, to scare off unwanted guests.

Usually installation of motion sensors for lighting is done at the entrance door, stairs to the basement and in the room itself, the bathroom, places that are well lit in the daytime, but require high-quality lighting at night. For a bathroom and a toilet, it is good to install a light switch with a motion sensor, since many simply forget about the light, coming out from there.

If necessary, the device can be configured to turn on several lights in the room, such as a TV or an air conditioner, along with light. The best and easiest way to install the alarm in most rooms is to connect to a conventional switch. This scheme of connection of the motion sensor for lighting is given in the instructions or the passport of the device. Before carrying out the work, you must read the instructions and, of course, follow its recommendations.

How to choose a place to install the sensor

One of the most important conditions for the correct operation of the device is the location of its installation. Agree that the device will not be useful if you mount it far from the place of movement of a person. Therefore, it is necessary to mount the sensor exactly where the user begins to enter the dark part of the room or courtyard.

It is important to correctly set the direction of the switch, for this purpose almost all the devices are designed so that you can automatically direct the infrared radiation to the desired location. The adjustment of the traffic light sensor for lighting should be done in such a way that the device can easily detect the presence of a person who is directed to the working area of the device. If you think about a specific location for installing the device, then this should be the highest point on the wall of the building or room.

Sensor connection

To properly go through the installation and adjustment of the motion sensor for lighting, you do not need special skills. It is only necessary to assemble together and connect the respective components (wires) of the signaling device. To make everything beautiful, you need to use a special junction box. Each device has its own instructions. It is also very important to remember that it is best to locate the sensor in places where it will not be annoyed by movements of foreign objects.

Sensor Setup

The motion sensor for lighting is adjusted with potentiometers. In general, three components are used for the apparatus:

  • Brightness adjustment;
  • Traffic control;
  • Calibration of sensitivity.

It is also necessary to set the maximum interval between the appearance of the photocell and the signal. If the displayed time does not change the picture, the device will automatically turn off the lighting and ventilation, as well as everything that is connected to it.

After the trial and error has been completed by installing the device, the motion sensor must be adjusted for lighting. The entire setup circuit is described in the instructions to the device. In most cases, the device to activate includes two parameters - the set time for triggering and the dependence of switching on the device from the level of total illumination. It is especially good to adjust in places where daylight penetrates daytime, for other cases you can simply set the minimum parameters. Most devices that are currently available can allow you to set combinations of time from a few seconds to 10 minutes.

Connection diagrams

Currently, the connection scheme of the motion sensor for lighting is not one, there are many. Different variants are necessary to ensure that each of the users could find a convenient and comfortable design for themselves.

The first of the presented methods is standard. To connect it, you need a phase wire (220 V) to run through the machine, and then connect directly to the device. After zero wire in a place convenient for the owner should go to two turns, the first of which is sent directly to the device, and the second is stretched there, but only through the luminaire.

Alternatively, you can use the option in which the phase wire is routed directly to the sensor and connected to the contact switch. The second wire connects and closes the circuit on the light bulb, and on the reverse side it needs to conduct the same zero phase. The entire difference between these two methods is only in the presence of a switch in the second version.

The second motion sensor circuit for lighting is mainly used if there is a need for light to burn for a certain period of time and not depend on conditions to which the device will respond.

Basic recommendations for installation:

  1. Be sure to note that the sensor should begin to turn on when exposed to a level of at least 1 m from the floor. Otherwise, the device will work in cases when cats or dogs run past, which, of course, does not need light.
  2. If you plan to install a device with a viewing angle of 180 degrees, then the ideal location for it will be the ceiling or wall of the room.
  3. Sometimes it is useful to install an ordinary switch together with a sensor. This is done so that at the right time the light will burn and not turn off.
  4. Models that define the field of view can be installed anywhere, but one should take into account that in their field of vision there must necessarily be doors, for example in a long corridor. If everything is correctly done, the light will turn on and off when opening and closing.
  5. Determined with the choice of the device, pay attention to its features. If the room is damp enough, only specialized waterproof wires can be used. It is necessary to provide in advance, preferably at the initial stage, whether it is necessary to install a switch in parallel or some other system, for example ventilation, since after installation this will make it problematic.

Installation of motion sensor and LED spotlight

Probably, many faced with the problem of lighting the garage, the porch or the adjacent territory of the house. Of course, you can put a normal flashlight, but then there are problems with controlling the light, such as turning it off during the day and turning it on at night. For full automation, a motion sensor was developed to illuminate the street or the house. The use of such a mechanism simplifies and improves a person's life.

The connection scheme of the motion sensor for lighting is quite simple. After the object enters the area of the device, it works. It is not necessary to connect a floodlight to the signaling device: it can be a conventional lighting device. In order for light to turn on only during the dark, the daylight setting must be set in the device.

Pros of installing the motion sensor and searchlight:

  • Considerable saving of electricity, since light starts to work only when necessary;
  • Saving resources of lamps and light-emitting diodes;
  • Complete elimination of the human factor in the illumination of the object;
  • Ease of installation and operation;
  • Additional security of the home when installing sensors around the perimeter of the house.

When the motion sensor is triggered

The installed device will monitor exactly that space that falls into the zone of its review. So under a certain area it is necessary to select the appropriate model of the device with the necessary characteristics. If the scheme of connection of the motion sensor for illumination was correctly chosen, it will qualitatively fix the level of infrared radiation in the area of its operation. In those moments when there will be no changes, and there will be no signal at the output either. After a person or an animal appears in the observation field, the temperature of which will be slightly higher than that set by the sensors, changes in the voltage in the lamp will immediately occur. Then a series of pulses will begin to form, which will give the signal to the control circuit. The lighting device starts to turn on depending on the sensitivity parameter setting.

Consequently, after an object with a temperature higher than the specified one leaves the control zone, for which the sensor is responsible, and the arrival of continuous pulses is completed, communication communication will burst and the light will go out.

It is these functions that make the use of such devices very popular and extremely convenient for a variety of rooms, since they can ensure the non-contact switching on of devices for lighting. Thanks to such devices there will no longer be any cause for concern for their comfort and convenience, which are so necessary in the modern world.

The main advantages and disadvantages of sensors

And yet, before you install the motion sensor for lighting, you need to weigh all the pros and cons of this device.

Pluses:

  1. Energy saving. Very often people forget about switching off the light, and with the help of such devices this actual problem will no longer exist, as it will be under automatic control.
  2. Functionality. Most modern devices work well without using wires. Also to them, if necessary, you can easily attach some more gadgets except light, such as a TV, air conditioning, tape recorder, fan, radio, hood, etc.
  3. Convenience. If the switch is in the room far enough from the entrance, then in the dark it will not be easy to find him, and small children, perhaps, are also scary. The sensor eliminates this problem.

Disadvantages:

  1. Great value. It's no secret that you have to pay dearly for a beautiful and comfortable life, and signaling devices are not an exception to this rule. The price of such devices is great, but the effect that they give justifies the investment.
  2. Complexity of installation. The motion sensor circuit for lighting is easily connected by itself, but still no one can give a full guarantee that the installation will be done correctly and the device will work. So, if possible, it is best to use the services of an experienced master who not only connects, but also adjusts the operation of the device.

Immediately throughout the house to install smart assistants is problematic enough, and also costly. But to mount the sensor in the darkest corner is necessary, because after this you can forever forget about all the inconveniences. The first apparatus that appeared in the apartment will soon appear the same in other rooms, as well as in the courtyard, if this is a private house. It's easy to get used to comfort!
