Adenoma of the prostate: treatment and symptoms

Adenoma of the prostate is a disease that is characterized by increased proliferation of prostate tissue surrounding the urethra, resulting in a urinary tract disorder, and later, in the absence of treatment, and obstruction of the urinary tract. This disease is very common and is observed in a quarter of men over the age of 50 years, and after 70 - in half.

Adenoma of the prostate: treatment and symptoms

In the process of proliferation of tissues surrounding the urethra, its compression occurs. As a result, urination becomes difficult and there is incomplete emptying of the bladder. In addition, the tonus of the musculature of the internal sphincter of the urethra and the irritability (sensitivity) of the nerve endings in the region of the neck of the bladder increase reflexively. This, in turn, leads to frequent urge to urinate, night climbs to the toilet and other manifestations.

The patients suffering from this disease experience a feeling that they do not completely empty the bladder. In patients, there is a rapid, intermittent urination, imperative urge to separate the urine, a weak pressure of the jet, the need to push.

However, prostate adenoma, the treatment of which must be done in a timely manner, is not limited to these symptoms. As the disease progresses, the muscular walls of the bladder irreversibly deplete, which makes even more efforts to extrude the urine. Over time, prostate adenoma is complicated by acute urinary retention. This increases the amount of urine left in the bladder, which contributes to the development of infections and the formation of stones. On the other hand, the outflow of fluid through the ureters from the kidneys is disturbed. As a result, hydronephrosis gradually develops, which leads to the appearance of chronic renal failure.

Adenoma of the prostate: treatment with medication

During therapy, the administration of α-adrenoblockers is prescribed, which reduces the tone of the muscles of the bladder and the prostatic part of the urethra. In addition, the drugs help to eliminate the increased sensitivity of the endings of nerves located in this zone. These medicines include "Alfuzozin", "Doxazosin", "Tamsulosin".

Unfortunately, the described medicines only affect the symptoms of the disease, but they can not reduce the size of the prostate.

Adenoma of the prostate: treatment with inhibitors

Dutasteride, Finasteride, which are inhibitors of 5α-reductase, are also prescribed for treatment. They block the conversion of testosterone to active dihydrotestosterone, causing a slow atrophy of the prostate. According to the research, these drugs are able to reduce the size of the gland with prolonged use (more than half a year) and reduce the risk of urinary retention, which sometimes avoids surgery.

Adenoma of the prostate: surgical treatment

Today, there are several methods of surgical treatment of this disease. Transurethral resection can eliminate the ailment with the help of electro-loops under the control of the endoscope. Its last modification is bipolar plasma vaporization. This is the optimal method of treatment, after which the patient can start working in a week. Removal of prostatic adenoma is performed by the method of open adenomectomy. There are also some alternative surgical techniques, however they are applied in a limited way, because their advantages are controversial, and safety is poorly understood.

There are also popular methods of treatment of prostatitis and prostate adenoma. However, before treating prostatitis at home, independently, you need to see a doctor. Unconventional treatment is best done in conjunction with medical appointments.
