A picture of nails and threads: a master class. Schemes, instructions

Today, almost nothing can be surprised. Even such a work as a picture of nails and threads. Who would have thought that from such simple and incompatible materials you can create real masterpieces that will decorate any interior. We suggest you learn more about the technique of creating pictures, about what other tools you might need and about possible design options.

More about the paintings

The thread panel is a substrate made of almost any material on which carnations are clogged in a certain order, and yarn forms a pattern. That is, the nails serve as pegs, for which the thread clings.

This kind of art requires attentiveness. But the result usually exceeds all expectations. You can create pictures both independently and involve children in this activity. There are different schemes of work, and almost any idea can be embodied in the form of a panel of threads and nails.

Necessary tools and materials

First you need a substrate for the picture. It can be a foam plastic sheet, a wooden board, fiberboard, plywood, cork board and other similar material. Cardboard and similar thick paper in this technique are not used.

Next you will have to stock up the studs. Their number depends on the complexity of your work. But on average one picture needs at least twenty pieces. It is best to choose carpentry, furniture or decorative nails of small diameter. They are small in size and with neat hats.

The third component of the picture is yarn. It is best to choose knitting threads. They are dense, there is a great color variety. But also twisted and thread floss. Silk yarn is better not to take, because it is difficult to work with.

You will also need a pair of scissors, a hammer, pliers (if you hammer a carnation in the wrong place, it will be easier for you to pull it out), drawing on paper, buttons, paint on the wood (if you want to change the color of the substrate).

If you are planning that a finished picture of nails and threads will hang on the wall, then stock up with a special eyelet.

Principle of operation

The procedure for creating a picture is quite simple: you choose or come up with a picture you want to create, print it or draw it on a sheet of paper, cut out the image along the contour, prepare the substrate (paint, clean it, or do nothing at all), and then start creating.

Place a paper image on the substrate. So that it does not move, attach it with the buttons.

Then gently drive the decorative nails along the contour of the picture. Try to place them at the same distance. Some masters first point in a pencil, and then drive the carnations.

Then remove the image from the substrate and put it in front of you. Take the thread and tie one end to the stud.

Using a picture-scheme, wind the crocheting threads on the nails in any order to form intersecting lines. When the thread ends, do not forget to fasten its end.

Where can I use such pictures?

Created panels perfectly fit into any interior and bring a touch of modernity. Such pictures look good on walls, chests of drawers, shelving and so on. But if you have children or they are frequent guests in your home, then the placement should be chosen especially carefully. Though you use small or decorative carnations, but they can still be dangerous for the baby. In this case, the ideal option is to hang a picture of nails and threads higher on the wall or put on the upper shelf of the rack.

Depending on the chosen image, the panel can be placed in the living room (any subject), kitchen (fruit, vegetables), bathroom (shells, anchors, crabs and so on), corridor and other rooms.

Create a silhouette drawing

The central composition does not always stand out as a thread. Sometimes with their help a background is created that frames the empty space. Such panels are called silhouettes.

Master class, to create a silhouette of threads and nails:

  1. Prepare all the necessary tools and materials (Figure 1).
  2. On a sheet of paper, draw a contour of the tree (Figure 2).
  3. Attach the scheme to the substrate and drive the carnations along the contour of the tree (Figure 3).
  4. Then, hammer the studs all over the contour of the substrate to form a frame (Figure 4).
  5. Tie a loop on the end of the thread and start creating a pattern (illustration 5).
  6. Pull the string from the outer nails to those that form the silhouette of the tree (Figure 6).
  7. When most of the thread is stretched, remove the piece of paper with a pair of tweezers with a pattern (Figure 7).
  8. Pull the entire string, and fix it to the end.

Making the Easter Bunny

The procedure for creating a picture will be as follows.

Draw or print a silhouette of a rabbit and a basket with Easter eggs.

Prepare a tablet and place pictures on it.

Drive the carnations along the contour of the figures at the same distance from each other.

Select the outline of the inner part of the eyelet with the studs. In the picture it will be executed in a different color.

Also highlight with nails a bow on the basket, its interior and Easter eggs.

When all the carnations are hammered, select the thread for the inner part of the eyelet and tighten it.

Then create other small items: bow, eggs and so on.

Now you can begin to fill the main part of the picture. White thread shows a rabbit, and blue - a basket.

We make patterns

You can make amazing pictures of nails and threads. Schemes of work differ in that the pattern is created due to the formation of the curls of the thread.

The sequence of execution of such a panel:

  1. Take the square board.
  2. Step back from each edge for a couple of centimeters and drive the studs at the same distance from each other so that they form a frame (Figure 1).
  3. Take the string and fix one end of the corner carnation (Figure 2).
  4. Then draw the thread in the opposite corner to form a diagonal line. Return the yarn back and hook onto the adjacent stud, and then draw another diagonal line. Tighten the thread this way, each time clinging it to the neighboring studs. The yarn must go clockwise. In time, you will see that a pattern is formed in the center (Figure 3).
  5. Fill in this way all space of the cloth and fix the end of the thread (Figure 4).

The original panel is ready!

So you can create amazing works and not use paper drawing.

These pictures will always be executed in the same way:

  • Substrate preparation;
  • Driving of carnations as a frame;
  • Pulling the thread from one nail to the opposite.

For example, you can take a yarn of different colors and stretch it with a pattern of "Christmas tree" (the picture above).

Picture of threads and nails: a master class on creating a word

In this technique, you can do not only silhouettes, patterns and illustrations, but also words.

The procedure is as follows.

Glue several sheets of paper among themselves and write in voluminous letters any word, letter or sentence. Remember that the letters should be thicker so that the final picture looks beautiful. Cut out the word (picture 1).

Prepare the substrate (picture 2).

Place the word on the substrate (picture 3).

Kill the carnations along the outline of the letter. They should be located close to each other and at the same distance (picture 4).

Remove the paper letters (picture 5).

As a result, you should get, as in the picture 6.

Prepare the threads of such colors, so that the shade of one goes to another, like a rainbow (picture 7).

Begin pulling the thread from the very top of the first letter (picture 8).

Then take another shade and continue to work for them. So fill the letter with threads of different colors (picture 9).

Gradually fill in all the letters. Remember that you need to carefully select colors. Selected shades should smoothly flow one into the other (pictures 10 and 11).

Fill in all the letters. A picture of nails and threads is ready!

Combined panel

You can combine some drawing and make a signature for it. All elements are made of threads and nails.

Descriptions of the process of creating panels:

  1. Cut out the balloon from the paper and place it on the prepared plywood.
  2. Stroke the carnation on the ball.
  3. Remove the paper and draw a string down from the ball with a pencil.
  4. Knock the rope around the carnation.
  5. At the bottom, write a phrase or a word with a pencil and also hammer in the carnations.
  6. The rope and letters will consist of one row of carnations.
  7. Pull the thread in a chaotic order so that it forms a ball. The yarn should cover all the outlined space.
  8. Take a thread of a different color and pull it onto the carnations forming the rope. The yarn should go zigzagging between nails, dropping and rising several times.
  9. In the same way, tighten the thread to the carnations that form the sentence.

Tips and Tricks

If as a substrate you have chosen foam plastic sheet, then its surface should be covered with a layer of acrylic paint.

To work was neat and beautiful, try to pull the thread as tightly as possible.

Since carnations are small, it is more convenient to use a small hammer.

Very beautiful look paintings using additional decorative elements. For example, the silhouette can be made from threads and nails, and small parts can be made from rhinestones or droplets (see the picture above).

Original pictures will be obtained if a finished image (for example, a woman) is pasted onto a substrate, and any part of it can be made volumetric due to the thread stretched on the carnations (skirt).
