House of the Bulgarian Communist Party, Buzludja Mountain, Bulgaria

The monument to Buzludji (or "House-monument of the Bulgarian Communist Party") was previously considered a true architectural miracle. It was opened in 1981 and served as a symbolic place for meetings of followers of the communist regime. But after the collapse of the USSR in less than ten years, he came to a state of utter worthlessness. At the moment this huge concrete building is abandoned and at the same time looks like an alien ship. Considering the fact that this monument is located on the top of Buzludja Mountain, it is on the way of all the big hurricanes, strong winds and suffers from frosty winters. The outer windows fell first, followed by a metal roof. The Bulgarian government is currently considering the possibility of renovating the building.

Colmanskop, Namibia

Kolmanskop is one of the most famous ghost cities in the world. It is located in the Namib Desert and was founded in the early twentieth century, when the first diamond was discovered in the desert sands. Over the next few years, thousands of German families moved here in search of wealth. Year after year, this city turned into a lively oasis in the middle of the desert, but all this only in order that in fifty years he was left to be torn to the sand and winds. Temporary homes of those families are gradually falling apart, inside them fill the desert sands. The remains of this city act as a magnet for ghost hunters, which is why De Beers opened a museum here to maintain the city's existence and preserve its history.

Pripyat, Ukraine

The abandoned city, located in the north of Ukraine, was once home to more than 500 thousand people, but now it is a radioactive ghost town, which was captured by the surrounding nature. In 1986, Pripyat became the epicenter of the most terrible nuclear catastrophe in human history. As a result of an accident, a reactor exploded, causing deadly radiation to spread all over the city and beyond. The level of radiation here is still too high for living, but tourists can visit this city if they want. It can be safely said that Pripyat will remain abandoned forever, since such a quantity of radiation will disappear only after several hundred years.

Hotel del Salto, San Antonio del Tehendama, Colombia

No, this is not the set of the American Horror Story series, although the past of this hotel is horrible enough to remove the film based on these events. It was built in 1923, and the name of the Hotel del Santo was in the fifties. A picturesque location near the Tekendama Falls in central Columbia attracted many visitors. After several decades, the high level of pollution of the river led to the fact that the hotel was abandoned. Recently, a museum was opened in it. But, one way or another, the most terrible part remains the same: many people believe that this hotel is inhabited by ghosts, since in the early years it became a place where several suicides were committed at once.

Home UFO, Sanji, Taiwan

The unusual appearance of these strange architectural structures brought to them the glory of "UFO houses". Now they are known as the "ruins of the future". The city of Sanzhi was abandoned two years after the completion of its construction. This complex was built in 1978 in Taiwan. Two years later, because of problems with investment and financial losses, the project was abandoned and left at the mercy of time. However, Sanji became known as a ghost town and is one of the main destinations for adventurers and ghost hunters. In it, even the MTV channel was shot.

Sea forts Red Sands, United Kingdom

These huge metal guns towers of Maunsell were built in 1943 during the Second World War to protect Britain from Nazi Germany. These amazingly looking concrete monsters were named after Guy Maunsell, the engineer who designed them. These towers were withdrawn from use and abandoned in the fifties, and some of them survived to this day. They stand in the middle of the sea and attract everyone's attention. And although they were hardly used, these forts are an outstanding architectural heritage of the Second World War.

Diamond mine "Mirny", Eastern Siberia, Russia

Mirny is the world's second largest mine, which was founded by Joseph Stalin, who was desperately trying to achieve the creation of an independent economy for the USSR. It was the first and largest diamond mine in the USSR. After 44 years of active use, the mine was closed, and to date it remains inactive. This mine has a depth of 535 meters and a diameter of 1190 meters. The development of the deposit began in 1957. The climatic conditions here were incredibly bad: seven months of winter, accompanied by a solid frozen earth, which were replaced by short summer months, during which the earth turned into a real swamp. But at the same time, Mirniy produced 10 million carats of diamonds a year in the sixties.

Lost Underwater City, Shicheng, China

57 years ago the Sinai hydroelectric power station immersed the Chinese city of Chichen (City of Lviv) under the water. This city got such a name because five lion's mountains rose right behind it from the ground. It's really an incredible sight. Now the city is protected from destructive erosive forces such as sun, wind and rain, in the waters of Lake Qiandao, so the underwater city was untouched and remained practically in the same form as it was decades ago. Archaeologists call it a "virtual time capsule," but if you want to open it, you'll need to scuba.
