X5 ("BMW"): body and generation

Model X5 from the company "BMW" is a full-fledged SUV with a long history. The history of this car originates in 1999, and it is still produced, which is the reason for the pride of engineers and designers from the "BMW." The body, their numbering and features - read all about this in this article.

First generation

In 1999, the first in the history of the company "BMW" crossover was presented at the Detroit Motor Show. A new series and a new experience, because previously the Bavarians were not engaged in the production of all-wheel drive crossovers. The car received the index X5. The letters indicate the presence of a permanent all-wheel drive. Figure 5 indicates the crossover platform belongs to the fifth series of "BMW". The bodies, of course, were changed to fit the off-road class, but the platform and wheelbase remained unchanged.

The body of the E53 was a breakthrough for the company. It was produced in the USA. In Europe, this model was brought only in 2000. In 2003, this crossover was updated by facelift. This event was timed to the presentation of the younger crossover in the series - X3. Changes affected the front of the car. Under the hood of the machine you can choose from 3 petrol and one diesel unit. At the end of 2006, the first generation is removed from the "BMW" conveyor belt. The bodies for such a long period of release were outdated and needed changes.

The second generation

The new version of the crossover has undergone external and technical changes, but has not changed dramatically. The car was produced for 6 years - until 2013. In 2010, the Bavarians carried out restyling. The front and rear optics, the bumper and the wings were changed.

Under the hood there have also been changes. The crossover received new gasoline units and a recycled diesel. Changes also touched the transmission - the gearbox was replaced by an 8-speed instead of a 6-speed. In 2013, the release of the second generation was completed.

The third generation

The first rumors about the new F15 body appeared even during the second generation in 2012. As for the new body of the BMW X5, the changes have again come out not quite revolutionary. Again a bumper, optics and small elements. Although the platform was changed, the entire engine line is turbocharged. It includes 4 gasoline and 2 diesel units. All modifications are equipped with an exceptionally 8-speed automatic transmission.

The first "BMW" crossover, whose bodies for three generations have changed little, remains the most popular in the X series to date, even though the two younger models - X1 and X2 appear.
