Windows Defender

After the release of the operating system Windows 7, the life of those hackers who earned by writing common viruses, has become much more difficult. The reason for this lies in the special module of the new OS called "Defender Windows 7".

In contrast to the weak programs designed to ensure the security of previous versions, in Windows 7 for the first time anti-spyware and anti-virus protection is built right into the operating system and starts with it. This is especially important, considering that unwanted and spyware can quite easily get to your PC from the Internet, or through such infected media as CD / DVD and flash drives, and most of these malicious programs begin their activities immediately after the next reboot of the computer.

Windows Defender has two frontiers of defense and the main attacks on the computer prevents the first frontier - real-time protection.

This feature warns the user that once the spyware or any program that has information about it performing unwanted actions starts to be installed into the system or simply tries to start.

If an alarm has been triggered, depending on the notification level set in the OS, several actions will be available to the user.

The first is to quarantine. A malicious program is moved to quarantine and it is prohibited from running until it is restored or deleted.

To delete or, on the contrary, restore the quarantined files, start the defender with the "Start" button, then select "All Programs", then click the "Windows Defender" shortcut.

In the window that opens, go to the Tools menu and click on the item marked as "Objects in Quarantine".

Here you can view all the stored objects and determine the appropriate actions for them. If you are going to delete all files, click the "Delete all" button. If any of them may be useful, select the "Restore" button for each item in the list, and for those that are not needed, you must click the "Delete" button.

The second item is to remove the program. If you know for sure that the file you are running may contain spyware, then you should immediately remove it. This menu item allows you to do this safely.

The third point is to allow execution. With this button, you can add a program that the Windows Defender defined as spyware, to the exclusion list. You will not see any more warnings about this software, so click the "Allow" button only if you are 100% sure of your decision.

An experienced user can choose the programs or settings that he thinks Windows Defender should check.

The second OS defense boundary is the scanning of system files to monitor their status and versions. In the scan settings, the user has the scan schedule settings, options for automatic or manual removal of the detected spyware. In any case, it is recommended to change something there only to those who know exactly what they are doing.

From time to time, "Windows Defender" connects to the network to check for updates in the so-called "definition list". In this list, OS developers are constantly adding newly discovered spyware and other unwanted programs. Updating the list occurs through the Windows Update Center , along with the parallel update of other components of the operating system.

And for those who believe that there is not a lot of security, the utility provides the ability to configure the scan in such a way that it is preceded by updating the definitions for the most complete and reliable scan.

And the last tip, if for some reason you need to disable "Windows Defender", even if you have a separate anti-virus, it's better to turn it back on as soon as possible
