Where science intersects with spirituality: 7 examples

Religious and spiritual communities are more open to information and evidence that help us understand the true nature of reality. Take, for example, the Dalai Lama. He was never alien to science, and throughout his leadership he constantly advocated the connection between science and Eastern philosophy.

Many religious and spiritual teachings are confirmed by science, as can be seen from the list below.

1. Intangible Sciences

Intangible sciences began to appear at the turn of the XIX century, when physicists began to study the relationship between energy and the structure of matter. The belief that the material world is at the very center of scientific knowledge has receded into the background.

The atom itself consists of what we consider to be an empty space. At this point, scientists have come to understand that everything in the universe consists of energy. Some scholars and philosophers, who are materialistic, refuse to accept these phenomena, because they are not consistent with their exclusive concept of peace.

Although scientific research, based on materialistic philosophy, made a great contribution to our world, this philosophy dominated the world of science to the point that it restricted science from studying other models and prevented equal study of reason and spirituality.

2. The Mystery of Consciousness

The famous physicist Max Planck considered consciousness to be fundamental and considered matter as a derivative of consciousness. He developed a quantum theory. For this scientific work the scientist was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1918.

3. Superhuman abilities

It's amazing to see how many ancient teachings suggest that people have the ability to receive extraordinary power through various ways. Some of these methods, known as siddhis in the yoga tradition (from Sanskrit "perfection"), include meditation, static dances, drum rolls, prayer, fasting, psychedelics and much more.

For example, Buddhism recognizes the existence of advanced forces. The Buddha expected his disciples to be able to achieve these abilities, but will not be distracted by them.

Professor of Buddhist and Tibetan Studies at the University of Michigan, Donald Lopez, Jr. describes many of the abilities attributed to the Buddha.

He possessed all the supernatural powers, including a complete knowledge of each of his own past lives and the lives of other beings, the ability to know other people's thoughts, the ability to create his own twins, to rise into the air and simultaneously shoot the fire and water that came from his body. Although he moved to nirvana at the age of eighty-one, he could have lived "till the end of the aeon" had he been asked to do so.

4. Life after death

Is the brain a direct receptor of consciousness, or is consciousness the product of the brain? Although science has not yet proved that consciousness exists separately from our physical organs. But there are many hypotheses that point to the fact that consciousness is something completely separate and that it remains even after a person dies. Consciousness is seen as a separate concept, which has nothing to do with the brain.

5. Health and fasting

Fasting is a tradition that has been included in many ancient cultures, from ancient Vedic traditions to Buddhist and many others. Fasting should not be confused with hunger.

Many religions and spiritual teachers encouraged others to fast to rejuvenate their mind, body and soul. It's no secret that fasting is the main, if not the oldest, medical intervention known to man.

Over the past two years, a huge amount of research has shed light on the benefits of fasting for human health. Studies have shown that if properly observed, the type 2 diabetes completely disappears, cancer is eliminated, stem cells are regenerated, the function of the pancreas is restored, the damaged DNA is reconstructed, and toxins are excreted from the body. Fasting also helps to reverse multiple age-related diseases and restores the activity of brain cells.

6. We are all interconnected

Spirituality implies the connection of people with each other, as well as the existence and prosperity together. With our full understanding of how everything is interconnected, we can make more informed decisions and better understand what impacts we have not only on the physical, but also on the mental level.

This relationship, which is mentioned in the spiritual teachings, is also demonstrated by science. Take, for example, "Quantum Obfuscation", a strange phenomenon, which Einstein called "a phantom action at a distance".

7. Mind and body connection

An increasing number of scientific studies show that our mind can play an important role in the healing of our body.

At present, there are several research directions suggesting that our mental perception of the world constantly informs and directs our immune system in such a way that we can better respond to health threats in the future. The idea of the intertwining of mind and body acquired a more significant scientific meaning than the teaching that ephemeral consciousness is somehow separated from our physical "I".
