What you should know about transport tax benefits

Every day new owners of private cars appear in our country. A lot of those who sold or donated their old car, bought a new one. All of them have to deal with the problem of paying the transport tax. As in other financial situations, everyone hopes that they will have a right to benefits on transport tax and they will be able to save something in this situation. And there are such opportunities. But the benefits, of course, apply only to certain categories of citizens.

Who has the benefits?

Residents of the metropolitan region often wonder whether the benefits of transport tax? Moscow, as you know, is a pretty expensive city. And saving the family budget, which will turn out for those who are given the benefits of transport tax, for many will be quite tangible. For example, the following categories of car owners, on which one or more vehicles are registered, you can not pay tax for one car:

- Heroes of the USSR and the Russian Federation, as well as persons awarded three degrees of the Order of Glory;

- to veterans and invalids of military operations;

- To veterans, and also to invalids of the Great Patriotic War;

- disabled people for the disease (first and second gr.);

- former underage prisoners of concentration camps and other similar places that were formed by the fascists during World War II;

- Owners of cars with an engine of less than 70 horsepower;

- a guardian, one of the parents or one of the adoptive parents, and also the guardian of the disabled child;

- citizens affected by radiation ("Chernobyl victims", as well as participants in the tests of thermonuclear weapons, space technology);

- one of the parents or adoptive parents of a family with the status of having many children.

It is also necessary to know that in Moscow the benefits of transport tax (in the form of exemption from it) are also granted to certain legal entities. These include:

- enterprises engaged in the transportation of passengers using public transport (excluding taxis);

- Residents of special economic zones (they are granted such a privilege only for 5 years).

Controversial situations

Residents throughout the country, regardless of whether they have benefits, regularly receive mail notifications that require a transport tax. Often their texts cause a large number of questions. It's not a secret that accounting for transport tax is not always clear and correct. To know more about your rights in this matter, you need to consider one situation that occurs quite often. It can be safely said that this is the most common case. The vehicle has long been sold and taken off the register, but the former owner continues to receive notices requiring payment of the tax. Unfortunately, in many large cities, when there was a transfer of information from the traffic police to the tax authorities, due to the large amount of documents, many errors arose. Therefore, the cases when the car is taken off the register and sold, and IFNS employees do not know about it, are not uncommon. Especially this situation is unpleasant for those who have the benefits of transport tax.

What can I do if I received a notice requesting payment of tax on a car already taken off the register? Employees of the tax advise to take in the traffic police certificate of taking the car off the register, attaching to it a document on the sale and bring it all to them. Of course, this mechanism is valid only in the case of an official car sale. If the car you have purchased under a general power of attorney, then such requirements are fully justified. After all, from the point of view of the law, the owner of the car has not changed. Therefore, in this case, the tax will have to be paid.
