What is a skirting board made of polyurethane. Flexible polyurethane plinth: installation and feedback

Despite its centuries-old history, stucco for finishing the ceiling is still very popular. Today it is made not only from gypsum, but also from more modern material - polyurethane. He has many positive qualities. The main one is that the ceiling skirt made of polyurethane is almost impossible to distinguish from plaster, but it lasts much longer. In addition, the foam polyurethane strips are so versatile that they fit into almost any interior.

Like every building material, this eave has its own properties and features during installation. What is a ceiling skirt made of polyurethane (photo), methods of installation, decor, and this article is devoted to. We hope that the information will be useful.

Ceiling baseboard of polyurethane - what is it?

Ceiling plinth is an important decorative element. Closing the defects when wallpapering the wallpaper at the joint of the ceiling with the wall, it logically complements the interior and makes the overall appearance of the room more complete. With the help of such material, it is also possible to visualize the height of the ceilings visually or, conversely, to make them lower.

Ceiling plinth of polyurethane - the most optimal option for the ratio of price-quality-reliability. The material from which the strips are made is environmentally friendly and has fireproof qualities.

Unlike polystyrene cornices, polyurethane is more resistant to mechanical damage, and the pattern on it is sharper and more bold.

Plinth of polyurethane

Polyurethane cornices have certain advantages. Consider them.

  1. Plastic. Flexible polyurethane plinth will be indispensable when decorating walls, arches and niches with non-standard surface. Any smooth or rounded bend without problems can be decorated with such a cornice.
  2. Wide palette and a lot of options for texture. Even if you could not find the best option, the polyurethane curtain rod can always be painted in the most suitable color.
  3. Mud repellent properties. Such skirting boards are extremely easy to care for - they are enough to wipe with a damp rag. In the presence of more serious contaminants, polyurethane can be cleaned using household chemicals.
  4. Ecological compatibility. In the composition of polyurethane foam there are no harmful substances, therefore the material can be used in any premises.
  5. Hydrophobicity. The material does not absorb moisture, and therefore it is permissible to install it in bathrooms, showers, baths.
  6. Imitation of stucco molding. Designers and true aesthetes will be happy with this quality.

The skirting boards of polyurethane

Despite the entire volume of positive aspects, buyers in their reviews note one huge shortage of material: weight. In this regard, it is necessary to carefully select the fasteners to which you will plant the ceiling skirting of polyurethane. If the installation is poor, the cornice will sag.

Installation of polyurethane plinth

Installation of a ceiling skirting from polyurethane can be made in two ways:

  • With glue;
  • Mechanical method.

Each of them includes several stages. No condition can be allowed in any case, otherwise the design may subsequently be violated.

Mounting the skirting board with glue

To install such a cornice with glue, you will need a special composition designed for polyurethane, polystyrene, or any liquid nails with a super strong fixer. If the plinth will be fastened directly to a concrete, wooden or gypsum board wall without wallpaper, then this moment should be taken into account.

During the installation, joints will form between the elements. For their formulation, it is better to choose a special substance on an adhesive basis. It has a function of soldering, as a result of which the joints will be less noticeable, and the place of gluing will fix securely.

When the glue is selected, it is possible to begin installing a ceiling skirting of polyurethane. Installation is as follows.

  1. Prepare and slice the material.
  2. Clean and degrease the surface on which the cornice will be installed.
  3. Prime the treated area and allow it to dry completely.
  4. Spread the adhesive on the surface of the skirting board, wait about a minute and press it against the wall.
  5. Do not let go of the bar for another minute.
  6. Sew open slots.
  7. If desired, it is possible to seal gaps that can form between the baseboard and the ceiling or wall.

If there are strong enough bends on the surface of the wall or to keep the skirting itself is not very convenient, it can be fixed with thin hairpin nails. Upon completion of the finishing work, these peculiar clips can be removed or, if necessary, further toning of the plinth should be left, disguised with paint.

Mounting of plinth mechanically

It is recommended to install particularly heavy and textured elements on special mounting plates. As a rule, such fastening goes in the complete set together with a plinth.

  1. Install the corner elements.
  2. Mark the wall with a step of about 40 cm and drill holes for self-tapping screws.
  3. Secure the mounting plate with screws.
  4. On the back of the skirting, there is a fixing device. Just put the element on the bar and press it until it clicks.
  5. If necessary, treat the joints as in the first method.

Painting polyurethane plinth

White ceiling skirting from polyurethane will be appropriate in almost any interior. However, with an unusual design solution, a shade of light can look foreign. In this case, the foam polyurethane curtain can be painted.

It is best to paint after installing the skirting board. Since the installation of the elements must pass at least 24 hours, and in a humid room - about 48. For the decor, select the usual water-dispersion or acrylic paint of the required shade.

To prevent paint from getting on the walls and ceiling, the area next to the skirting board is covered with film or paint tape. It is more convenient to produce the work with a brush. Pulverizer is not contraindicated, but it is more appropriate to use it on large areas.

Advice of specialists

In order not to be mistaken when installing a ceiling skirting board, take note of some recommendations of professional builders:

  • If there are stretch ceilings in the room, fix the cornice mechanically. In this case, the linen does not form wrinkles, and the plinth itself will hold more securely.
  • Choose the corner elements to your favorite plinth, and not vice versa.
  • If it was not possible to find suitable corners, cut the plinth at the junction points at an angle of 45 degrees. For cutting use a chair or a writing knife.
  • When coating, avoid exterior paints - they have in their composition strong chemical compounds, which violate the integrity of the surface of the polyurethane elements.

Reviews of skirting boards made of polyurethane

Both ordinary buyers and professionals note the considerable durability of the material, the ease of installation and painting. Polyurethane strips are beautiful, this is perhaps the only option that is possible to mask the joint between walls and ceilings.

Accessibility is another undeniable advantage, which has a ceiling skirt made of polyurethane. The price for it at first glance may seem overestimated: a good cornice of medium width will cost about 400-500 rubles per meter. However, the impression is deceptive - the quality and appearance of such finishes fully justify its cost. There is hardly anyone who will be dissatisfied with such beauty.
