What is a parabolic antenna

The theme of our today's conversation is a parabolic antenna. The fact is that many mistakenly refer to all antennas for satellite television. In fact, not all these devices are parabolic antennas. This is just one type of this equipment. Let's first give a definition of this concept. So, satellite is called a mirror equipment, designed to receive signals from satellites.

Now go directly to the species. A parabolic antenna is the most common one. It is used for receiving radio broadcasts, as well as for television and Internet access. There are two types of such devices.

The first variety is direct focus. This is the classical type of a paraboloid of revolution. This parabolic antenna can operate in both the C-band and Ku-band. It is possible to operate the device in a combined mode. The second type is an offset antenna. This type is most common for individual reception of satellite broadcasting. This antenna is an elliptical paraboloid. The focus of this segment is lower than the geometric center of the device.

This arrangement helps to eliminate the shading of the useful area both by the irradiator and supports for it. Therefore, this parabolic antenna has a coefficient higher than the previous version with the same mirror area. And the installation of the irradiator is lower than the center of gravity of the antenna, it allows to increase its stability during the impact of the wind, because it is fixed almost vertically.

Due to the location of the antenna in the bowl, accumulation of atmospheric precipitation is excluded . As you know, they are able to strongly affect the signal quality. The angle of inclination of this antenna can vary, depending on the location in one or another geographical latitude. This kind of antenna works in the same ranges as direct focus.

The next version is toroidal antennas. This product belongs to a new category of reception of satellite signals (without the use of devices for turning). This antenna differs from all previous devices in that its parabola has a better designed reflection surface. Thanks to the second reflector, it is possible to establish a larger number of signal-receiving converters.

Such an antenna is made of special galvanized steel, which is covered with polyester varnish. On its holder can accommodate a maximum of 16 converters. Between them, an indentation of at least 3 degrees is allowed. True, the installation requires a clear compliance with the angle, tilt and azimuth. The advantage of this antenna is that it can be equipped with a special motor that is able to rotate the device in the direction of the necessary satellite.

Recently, a parabolic WiFi antenna is relevant. As you guessed by the name, it can work without a wired connection. That's basically all I wanted to tell you about antennas.
