Voltaren Gel

Voltaren gel is intended for external application. The medication has a uniform creamy consistency, white or yellowish in color.

The active substance of the drug is diclofenac diethamine. Auxiliary components: diethylamine, cocoyl caprylcaprate, carbopol, macrogol cetostearate, aromatic cream, liquid paraffin, water, propylene glycol.

Voltaren gel is included in the NSAID group. The drug has a pronounced anti-inflammatory and analgesic property. Non-selective oppression of COX-2 and COX-1 contributes to the disruption of the metabolism of arachidonic acid.

Voltaren gel is effective for eliminating soreness and reducing swelling on the background of inflammatory processes.

When using a medicament for the recommended method of application, the absorption of diclofenac is not more than six percent.

The drug is indicated for pain:

  • In the back accompanying degenerative and inflammatory pathologies of the spine (sciatica, osteoarthrosis, lumbago, radiculitis);
  • In joints (not excluding fingers, knees) with rheumatoid arthritis;

Due to the lack of data on the use of the medicinal product in the prenatal period, its use during the first and second trimesters is allowed only for the intended purpose and under the supervision of the attending physician. This compares the risk to the fetus and the mother. In the third trimester of pregnancy, the use of this drug is contraindicated due to the likelihood of a decrease in uterine tone and premature closure in the fetus of the arterial duct.

The drug is also not recommended for use in the lactation period, since there is no data on the release of the active substance of the drug with breast milk. In case of emergency and only with the approval of a doctor, the remedy is allowed to be applied. The action of the medication can provoke the following side effects:

  • Dermatitis (including, contact), erythema, pustular eruptions;

The drug is contraindicated in the presence of hypersensitivity to the components.
