This amazing Italian city is a major administrative center of the region of the country of Venice and the province of the same name. Venice is a commune, whose sights are located in all six self-governing areas. In accordance with the Charter, which was adopted in 1991, it is a metropolitan city. Therefore, do not believe anyone that the sights of Venice in one day to inspect will not be difficult. For this (even with a cursory examination) not enough for a week.

The climate of the city

Venice is a southern city. It is located approximately on the same latitude with the Crimea and the Krasnodar Territory. Here is a long hot summer. The average July temperature is + 23 ° C, and in January - +2.5 ° C. Very rarely in winter there are snowfalls and frosts.

Sights of Venice

As you already know, this Italian city is divided into six separate regions. Tourists are usually interested in three of them - beach Lido, the mainland Mestre and the most important district of the city, called Venice-Burano-Murano. Nevertheless, to start exploring the sights of Venice yourself is better with San Marco. Many monuments of history and architecture are concentrated here.

The Doge's Palace

Many Italians believe that this is the main attraction of Venice. With this statement, you can argue, but we will not do this, since it is really a unique structure worthy of such a title.

On the site, where today is the famous palace, the first building was erected in the IX century. The construction of the present building was carried out in 1424 by the architect F. Calendario. In 1577 a part of the palace destroyed the fire, and Antonio de Ponti took up his restoration.

For many centuries, the Doge's Palace was the seat of the government of Venice. Here at different times the Council of the Republic, the Senate, the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Police sat. On its lower floor were the office, the service of censors, the maritime administration and the offices of lawyers.

In the palace there are a lot of unusual beauty halls. For example, the Hall of Cards. Its walls are decorated with beautiful maps, which were executed by the best Italian masters. On the upper floors there are two ceremonial halls. They can be climbed along the Golden Staircase, which is decorated with gilt stucco.

In the halls of the Collegium, the Senate, the Department of Criminal Cases and the Office of Laws, a number of high-profile state cases were performed. Their design was quite consistent with the status - numerous masterpieces of Italian painting and unique finishing of ceilings, floors and walls.

Bridge of Sighs

For many tourists is a cherished dream of the magnificent Venice. Photos of the sights of this city can often be seen on the covers of glossy magazines.

Bridge of Sighs - such a romantic name received one of the oldest bridges of Venice. It was built in 1602. The author of the project is the architect A. Kontin. Such a beautiful name attracts many tourists to it.

The bridge connects the Doge's Palace with the prison on the Palace Canal. On it in the Middle Ages were prisoners. They sighed and saw the beautiful Venice for the last time. Therefore, with a love theme, this structure was not originally associated.

The Bridge of Sighs is built in the Baroque style. It is adorned with a magnificent carving on white marble. Today it is one of the most visited sights of the city, and, for example, in the XIX century, special attention was not paid to it. At that time it was believed that the bridge does not correspond to the architectural appearance of the city.

Cathedral of San Marco

Many tourists note that they are struck by the number of completely unique buildings that Venice has. The description of the sights of this city can be found in almost all advertising brochures of travel agencies working in this direction.

The cathedral is visited by tourists from all over the world. It is located in the center of the city on the square of the same name, not far from the Doge's Palace. This majestic cathedral is known not only for its stunning architecture, but also for the fact that the relics of the apostle Mark rest here . It also houses numerous art objects that were brought from Constantinople after the Crusades.

The construction of the temple began in 829. The work was completed in three years. Unfortunately, to this day its original appearance has not been preserved - the structure was badly damaged during the fire. The temple in its present form was built in 1063. Every year he became more and more beautiful. During the construction, tens of thousands of piles made of larch were used. This choice of wood is explained by the fact that when it comes into contact with water it becomes extremely strong, which is certainly important for Venice.

Today it is an active temple - worship services are held here. In this place one of the most revered Venetian shrines - Pala D'Oro (the golden altar) has been preserved. It consists of 80 small icons, decorated with precious stones and gold. The altar is unique - it was created almost five hundred years.

Grand Canal

A wonderful city - Venice. Its main attractions are, of course, numerous canals. Arriving in the city, you are likely to be the first to see the Grand Canal. It passes almost through the whole city. It begins at the railway station, and then crosses the whole of Venice in the shape of the letter S. The channel near the customs building ends.

In fact, this channel is the main Venetian street. True, on the street, in the usual sense of the word for us, he is completely different. He does not even have embankments. The facades of the houses became its peculiar shores. All buildings here are built on stilts and equipped with two exits - on land and on water. A walk along this amazing canal will be remembered for a long time, after all the most beautiful constructions of the city are located here. Before the gaze of the astonished tourists, more than 100 palaces appear - Palazzo Barbarigo, Ka'd'Oro and many others.

Ka'd'Oro Palace

The lacy building of this palace amazes even those who already know how beautiful Venice is. Photo, sights of this city on the water, known outside the country, you can see in our article.

Ka'd'Oro Palace - this unique building is often called the Golden House. This name was not received by chance. At its construction in decoration, gold leaf was used . Undoubtedly, this building is the most beautiful in the city.

Rialto Bridge

Agree that without the bridges Venice is unthinkable. The main attractions of this city are, of course, such facilities. There are a lot of them here (400). In this case, each of them has its own peculiarity, an original architectural solution. The Rialto Bridge can be attributed to the symbols of Venice. This is the oldest bridge across the Grand Canal. In addition, it is in its narrowest part. The support of the Rialto Bridge consists of 12 thousand piles, which were crammed on the bottom of the Grand Canal.

Before the start of construction, the authorities of Venice announced a competition for the best project. His sketches were offered by many famous architects, among whom was even Michelangelo. But the unforeseen happened - the competitive commission gave preference to a sketch previously unknown to the architect Antonio de Ponte.

After the approval of the author of the project, there were many rancor who found various shortcomings in the work, predicted the construction of a rapid collapse. But they were not right. And today the city and guests of the city are pleased with the magnificent stone bridge of Rialto, which is rightfully proud of Venice (commune). The sights of the city of such a level will please people for many more centuries, especially if we take into account that the city authorities closely monitor their condition. In 2012, the bridge began to be reconstructed. The work lasted three years.

We told you just a few places of interest. We hope that you will have the opportunity to visit Italy and appreciate the beauty of this extraordinary city.
