Ukrainian cosmonauts and scientists

Today it is considered that the first Ukrainian cosmonaut is Leonid Kadenyuk. And this despite the fact that among those who, since the beginning of the 1960s and before the collapse of the Soviet Union, visited the Earth's orbit, there were a lot of those who are most directly connected with the Ukrainian USSR.

P. P. Popovich (1930-2009)

Pavel Romanovich was born on October 5, 1930 in the city of Uzin, Kiev region. After the war he moved to Magnitogorsk. Having studied at the local flying club and in the military aviation school, in 1960 he was enrolled in the cosmonaut detachment. Two years later he made a flight to Earth's orbit lasting almost 3 days, which was also the first space expedition, in which two ships were simultaneously involved. The experiment turned out to be successful, which made it possible to conduct the most complicated docking operations in orbit in the future. Thus, it can be argued that the first Ukrainian cosmonaut is Popovich P. P.

In 1974 Pavel Romanovich made the 2nd space flight and again he was one of the pioneers, since this was the first flight to the orbital station, where the crew under his leadership conducted numerous observations and experiments. The cosmonaut was twice awarded the title of Hero and many other awards, including foreign ones. In addition, in 2005 he was awarded the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise 4-th degree for his significant contribution to the strengthening and development of Ukrainian-Russian relations.

G. T. Beregovoi (1915-1995)

In the list of "Ukrainian cosmonauts" a special place is taken by the name of this pilot-ace, who was born a year after the outbreak of the First World War in Poltava. He was the first of all the pilots to become a Knight of the Order of the Golden Star and was awarded the title of Hero of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War. In 1963, Beregovoi was selected command of a detachment of future cosmonauts for training.

After some time he was told that the time had come for the flight, for which he trained day and night for a long time. His first flight into space, Beregovoi made on the rocket "Soyuz-3". The duration of the expedition was about 4 days.

G. With Shonin (1935-1997)

Georgiy Stepanovich is a native of the Lugansk region. In 1960 he was enlisted in the cosmonaut detachment of the USSR, and in October 1969 he made his first flight together with V. Kubasov. In the course of the flight, tests were conducted of methods for welding metals under zero-gravity conditions. Astronaut is the author of the books "The very first" and "Memory of the heart."

V. A. Lyakhov

The cosmonaut was born in 1941 in the city of Anthracite in the Lugansk region. The first flight to the near-earth orbit lasted 175 days in 1979. I performed 50 experiments on the growth of single crystals of semiconductor materials in zero gravity, as well as the creation of new metal compounds and alloys.

The second time I visited space in 1983, together with AP Aleksandrov. This time "was absent" on Earth for 149 days. In 1988 he started for the third time in space orbit as commander of the Soyuz TM-6 spacecraft. For a week he worked on board the station "Mir".

L.D. Kizim (born 1941)

In the list of Ukrainian cosmonauts Leonid Denisovich occupied a special place, since the total time he spent in the Earth's orbit during 3 flights was more than 24 months. In 1996, he was awarded the Order of Friendship for his great contribution to the successful completion of the first stage of Russian-American cooperation on the "Mir-Shuttle" program.

LI Popov

Leonid Ivanovich was born in 1945 in the Kirovograd region of the Ukrainian SSR. In the cosmonaut detachment was enlisted in the 1970th. I made three flights into orbit. In 1982 he was awarded the State Prize of the Ukrainian USSR.

V. V. Vasyutin

Ukrainian cosmonauts of the Soviet era were mostly people, fanatically devoted to the profession, ready for anything. Among them is Vladimir Vladimirovich Vasyutin. He was born in March 1952 in Kharkov, Ukrainian SSR. Was enlisted in the cosmonaut detachment in 1976. He went on a flight in September 1985, together with G. Grechko and A. Volkov. As it turned out later, for fear of removal from flights, he concealed that he was suffering from a urological disease, violating the instructions.

Once in orbit, Vasyutin soon felt unwell and was forced to confess to the crew members. Due to the deterioration of his health, the flight had to be stopped and the crew returned to Earth. As a result, the expedition was disrupted. Nevertheless, Vasyutin was awarded several orders and medals. He died after a long and long illness in 2002.

Anatoly Pavlovich Artsabarsky

Many Ukrainian cosmonauts and scientists in the field of cosmonautics made a great contribution to the development of knowledge of mankind about the possibilities of developing space outside our planet. Among them is Anatoly Pavlovich Artsebarsky. He was born in 1956 in the Ukrainian SSR, in a small village called Prosyanya, which was in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Was enlisted in the detachment as a test cosmonaut. In 1991, he made a space flight with S. Krikalev and an astronaut from the United Kingdom H. Sharman. During the expedition, I carried out 6 spacewalks with a total duration of more than 32 hours. He was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

The first Ukrainian cosmonaut Leonid Kadenyuk

Ukrainian astronaut was born in 1951 in the Chernivtsi region, in the village of Klischkovichi. In 1976, he was admitted to the detachment of Soviet cosmonauts and in his ranks passed the necessary course of preparation for flights. Nevertheless, he did not manage to take part in the expedition to the station "Soyuz". The whole point is that the Ukrainian cosmonaut Kadenyuk divorced his wife, which for that period of time was considered a manifestation of debauchery and was incompatible with the high rank of conqueror of interplanetary space.

In 1983, he was even expelled from the cosmonaut detachment, but in 1988 he again joined his ranks and began to prepare for flights into space on shuttles of a new type, such as the Buran. Soon it became clear that this manned ship was unlikely to be able to go on an expedition in the near future, and this led to the fact that work on this project was stopped.

In the mid-90s, Kadeniuk received an invitation from the authorities of an independent Ukrainian republic to accept the citizenship of the country on whose territory he was born. After that, he was included in the group, which soon went to the US to prepare for flights under the NASA program. In November 1997, Kadenyuk finally made a space flight on the ship Columbia. During the expedition, he was engaged in scientific experiments. The flight lasted about half a moon. After his graduation, Kadenyuk returned to his homeland and began to work in the NCA of Ukraine, continuing to be a NASA astronaut.

NI Adamchuk-Chalaya

When the topic of the story is the Ukrainian cosmonauts of modern times, the name of this biologist is necessarily mentioned. Nadezhda Adamchuk-Chalaya was born in 1970 in Kiev. In 1996, she was included in the group of Ukrainian cosmonauts, selected to prepare for flights to the American "Space Shuttle".

The woman successfully passed the entire course of training and training and was appropriately qualified. However, up to now she has not managed to make a single space flight. At the moment, Adamchuk-Chalaya works at the Institute of Botany. N. Cold NASU. He is engaged in the preparation of experiments, which will later be carried out at the orbital station. In 2003 she became a laureate of the Prize of the President of Ukraine.

Valentin Bondarenko

The fate of Ukrainian cosmonauts of the Soviet era was not always happy. First of all it concerns Valentina Bondarenko. He was born in 1937 in the Ukrainian city of Kharkov. In 1960 he was selected to the very first squad of cosmonauts of the USSR. Perhaps, due to the fact that he was the youngest of his members, he did not get into the famous "first six". His tests were to begin in mid-March 1961. On the 10th day of training in the sound chamber, in which, as is known, the level of oxygen was increased, Valentin was allowed to remove medical sensors. He wanted to wipe his skin with cotton wool, previously moistened with alcohol, and then throw it into the garbage can.

However, cotton wool, flying by, hit the spiral of the electric hob, which resulted in a fire in the room. The flame instantly enveloped the camera, and immediately switched to the cosmonaut's training suit. The doctor on duty could not immediately open the sealed cabin of the surdobarokamery. When Bondarenko managed to get out, the young man was still conscious. For the life of the young man, doctors fought for 8 hours, but it was too late, and he died of a burn shock. In 1961, a few months after his death, the cosmonaut was posthumously awarded the Order of the Red Star.

G. G. Nelyubov

No less tragic was the fate of this astronaut. He was born in the spring of 1934 on the peninsula of Crimea. In 1960, he was also selected for the first cosmonaut detachment. Soon it turned out that Nelyubov is one of the best, and there is a strong possibility that he will be the first person to fly into space. And when Gagarin was chosen for these purposes, Nelyubov was appointed an understudy of Yuri. However, to fulfill his dream and fly into space, he was not lucky, because he had problems with his health. This became for the young man a real tragedy, and soon because of systematic violations of military discipline he was expelled from the space detachment. To experience this he could not. In 1966, he was found crushed by the wheels of an early train.

Now you know the Soviet and Ukrainian cosmonauts. The names of both are worth knowing and remembering, since their work, coupled with a huge risk, allows humanity to strive for the future and benefit from the benefits of extraterrestrial technology. You can see photos of Ukrainian cosmonauts in this article.
