Toolbar - what is it? Set the toolbar

Traveling the Internet every day, we need convenient and fast access to the most necessary information, including weather, currency rates and so on. Each time to go to several different sites is extremely inconvenient, and therefore have to look for affordable, reliable and simple alternatives.

One of these is the Toolbar. What is it and what is it for? Let's understand!

General concepts

Such a tricky word is called the usual panel for the browser. If you have anything to do with the computer, then for sure you have an idea about "Yandex-bar", "Satellite" from Mail.ru and other similar products. That's all there is to the Toolbar. What is it, if we talk about functional?

What are the toolbars for?

By the way, and for what in general have thought up all these panels for browsers? Could not you just make simple bookmarks? We partially answered these questions at the beginning of the article. Where it is more convenient to customize the toolbar once to display the required data, than to constantly visit the site. In addition, the panel consumes much less traffic, which is extremely critical for users with USB modems.

Note that the latter is true only for normal toolbars that do not have adware and spyware.

How to install?

So we figured out the purpose of these useful applications. But it's much harder to install a normal Toolbar. What does it mean? The fact is that in recent years malicious applications have been constantly masked under them, which we would not strongly recommend to put on a computer.

Almost every second site proposes to install its own toolbar, but you can do this only on those resources whose creators you really trust. In particular, on the official website of the above-mentioned companies, Yandex and Mail.ru.

As a rule, there are no complications with the installation itself. To do this, just go to the site of the manufacturer of interest to you, and then click on the item "Install Yandex toolbar", or for something like that. After that, the application will be automatically installed into your browser. Most often, you will need to restart the application to continue working, after which a new panel will appear in your Internet browser.

As you can see, it's very easy to install the toolbar. As a rule, the user's participation is minimal.

How to set up?

To ensure that the tool meets all your requirements and provides the information you need, it needs to be properly configured. Let's figure this out with the example of the Chrome Toolbar from the well-known domestic company Mail.ru. Of course, many users do not unfairly consider all of its products to be weakly trustworthy, but in some situations its use is justified.

The most common toolbar is Sputnik. Its functionality is quite wide: search from Mail.ru, mail from the same company, access to social networks, stock quotes and weather forecast. You can install it from the official site of the company, using the "More" item in its upper right corner. After installation, you must restart the browser.

The settings are pretty tight: by clicking on the "Weather Forecast" button, you can tell the program for which specific city you need information about the weather. Also, by clicking on the "Mail" button, you will be able to specify your login and password in the electronic box, after which information about the emails that you receive will be displayed directly on the browser's panel. Attention! This toolbar does not allow the use of third-party mailboxes, so if necessary, you will have to look for an alternative.

Which toolbars are really useful?

Given the huge amount of junk on the Internet, it will be useful to talk about those toolbars that carry a real functional load.

Firstly, this is the panel from "Rambler". Known in the recent past, the search engine now has far fewer fans, but its toolbar is quite good. It also allows you to find out the weather forecast and currency quotes, you can connect your email box to it. The panel has a very ascetic design, does not stand out against the general background of "Chrome". Does not contain any intrusive advertising, and if necessary completely removed from the system.

Of course, very useful toolbars from "Google" and "Yandex." Their capabilities are no different from those for the panels described above, they are also completely clean in terms of undesirable and dangerous functionality.

Yahoo

Of course, in our country, Yahoo does not have as many loyal fans that this service has in the US, but some users of the "old school" do not change their old habits.

The fact is that a dozen or two years ago, when in Russia the Internet just appeared, Yahoo was almost the only sane search engine. Today, the toolbar from this company also provides information retrieval capabilities, offers a weather forecast (you will need a Zip code for your city), as well as quotes.

As in the past cases, this panel has a fairly simple appearance, not stand out against the backdrop of the browser where it was installed. If there is such a need, it is easy to temporarily disable it or even completely remove it. Fortunately, there are no spyware bookmarks.

The virus or not?

As we said, not all toolbars are equally useful. Very often under the guise of these kinds of programs are distributed various malicious applications, whose presence on the computer is highly undesirable. They steal passwords, redirect users to phishing sites, which can completely leave you without a penny, transferring all your credit card information to third parties.

How to distinguish a normal panel for the browser from its malicious variety? It's simple: try to delete it. The normal Google Toolbar is uninstalled from the browser without problems, while the virus or spyware will repeatedly show up in it again. In addition, a sign of "illegality" can be a huge amount of advertising, which appears just after the installation of the toolbar. Of course, the anti-virus behavior can serve as an important alarm signal.

This is what the Toolbar is for. What it is and how to set it up, you just found out.
