Thick lory as a pet: touchingly, though troublesome

Most people keep houses of any kind. Naturally, most often they are dogs or cats - yet they "cohabitate" with people for many centuries, although they have already lost (primarily) their utilitarian purpose. However, quite often people prefer to see in their apartment something exotic - up to the crocodile in the bathroom (of course, if you have two). In our opinion, these reptiles are not too successful as a pet: they can neither squeeze, stroke, nor play. But those who acquire lori, will receive a lot of pleasure from the new occupant of the apartment.

Not to be confused with lemurs!

The correct name for these animals is a thick lory. This is not an abusive name, but a scientific one. Often, animals are called lemurs, although this is not entirely correct, and for several reasons.

First of all, the origin of the animals is completely different: a thick lory lives in Bangladesh, Indonesia and in the north-east of India. Lemurs are brought from Madagascar, and this is quite far from the place where Lori live.

A thick lory does not have a tail visually. Of course, he has it. But so small that it hides in thick wool, so you can only find it by touch.

The sizes of animals are also different. Thick lory does not exceed 38 centimeters in size, and its small variety only grows to 18. Lemurs reach 45 cm, and taking into account the tail, up to all 60.

Features of the structure

Somewhat dangerous is the content of a small thick lory. The photo shows him a cute little creature with touching eyes. However, on the elbows of this fluffy are located special glands, which produce a composition that is itself safe. But when combined with the saliva of an animal, it becomes a poison. In a natural habitat, this device is used to protect offspring: the mother licking her offspring, and they become unfit for food for predators, and even protected from skin parasites. In the same content, the animal can damage even an accidental bite, because when licking itself, it also makes the saliva poisonous.

However, the genus Lori has five representatives, among whom it is possible to choose a safe "life partner".

How to choose the right one

If you do not want to be upset by the small life span and constant petitions of your pet, look to the animal before buying it. And most importantly - to how and where it is held by the former owner. Required spacious and well-groomed cage, and it should not emit any smell. The thick lory at home, like in the wild, does not smell, so that only the uncleaned house can stink.

To take the animal is better at the age of six months - so the animal is easier to get used to new faces and surroundings. The coat should be smooth and smooth; Bald spots say that either the animal is sick, or it is poorly and incorrectly fed. The same applies to teeth - a color other than white indicates again an unbalanced diet or a mistake in care. Moody eyes or lowered eyelids also speak of the ill health of the animal.

Whom to take - a boy or a girl - depends on you. If you decide to get a couple, prepare for the fact that the animals do not become tame: they will miss each other. But if you first take one lory, and after a while - a spouse for him, then both will willingly spend time with people.

Who better to stay on a cat or dog?

Exotics exotic, but it's worth thinking about the animal itself. Choose some other animal if your children are not yet five years old. Babies still do not perceive exhortations on the topic "it hurts" or "he rests." And lory has a very independent character, and he, too, does not understand persuasion. So your child can be seriously bitten, and your purchase risks getting sick from nervous overstrain.

Fans of taking pictures and all the more professional photographers should also understand that this is not their beast - a fat lory. Its content is not too difficult, but it does not allow frequent movement, and frequent flashbulbs can forever blind the animal.

Boasting its unusual beast, too, can only be at home. If you carry it in your pocket for public viewing, it will not last long. If you are annoyed by sounds during sleep, think about whether a lyric is suitable for you. Yet these animals are nocturnal, and their activity awakens at eight o'clock in the evening. Some time later, the animal may learn some of your habits, but it will never be completely day-time.

Food, home and domestication

As already mentioned, a cage for lory is needed without fail. And it's big enough, with a pallet in which it's not worth to fill the filler - it's better to take an old cloth such as a diaper. Cleaning will become many times easier, and the smell will be absent.

It is necessary to hang the cages and ropes in the cage, fix the branches so that the animal can climb all over it. Feeders will need as many as three - under water, ordinary food and for vegetables or fruits. Very useful house, which can be made of fabric, on a weight, or flooring with a soft wooden litter. You will also need an air humidifier placed in the room. In the daytime it's better to pull up the curtains with curtains, as lori at this time sleep, and their eyes are very sensitive. And no drafts!

Food for these animals consists primarily of insects. In summer, catch them yourself, in the winter you will have to buy (at least the same Madagascar cockroaches). Shrimp are well absorbed, only they must be cleaned, moist and not salted. Suitable boiled eggs, but not too often. Vegetables and fruits are presented in a wide range: pears, non-acidic apples, grapes, bananas, mangoes, melons, cherries and watermelon, cabbage, lettuce, carrots, cucumbers and avocados - all warm, chopped, pitted and cut.

To accustom yourself to your acquisition you need not hurrying up, patiently, but persistently. You can not wake a lorik, you can not tear him from the cage, but you have to let him out of the cage so that he can examine the surroundings. These animals love to be scratched, and touchingly touch up the handles, if they have not "scratched", and you have stopped this wonderful procedure. Take care that the animal does not climb into any hole, especially if it is still unintelligent - may not understand how to get out of there and begin to cry.

In general, watching them is so interesting that you forget about the TV. The main thing is to communicate with lory more, so that he begins to trust you and willingly climbed on the handles or wandered around the apartment.
