Thermal power station "Akademicheskaya": construction and opening

For over thirty years, the energy system of Ekaterinburg, which did not know the modernization, received a new station. The "Akademicheskaya" thermal power station is designed not only to solve the problem of energy deficit in a certain microdistrict of the city, but also to develop further infrastructure of the city and the region.

Modernization plan

In 2002, the Government of the Russian Federation adopted a program for the modernization of the electric power industry, the implementation of which is planned until 2020. Basic goals:

• Increase the efficiency of operating stations.
• Reducing fuel consumption at each station by 10%, which should be planned at 300 grams per 1 kW / h.
• Reduction of losses in the national network to 4%.
• Reduction of losses in the national distribution complex to 6.5%.
• Decommissioning of obsolete stations.
• Construction of new stations, optimization of accommodation.

According to the program being implemented at the moment, the liquidated capacities (26.4 GW) will be replaced by new energy efficient stations. About 150 units of new main substations and about 9 thousand distribution ones are planned for commissioning, and over 300 thousand kilometers of power transmission lines will be laid. The total cost of all works is estimated at 4.6 trillion rubles. One of the largest projects in the overall plan of reconstruction and construction was the "Akademicheskaya" thermal power plant in Yekaterinburg.

Where to build

TPP "Akademicheskaya" is built on the investment funds of PJSC "T-Plus" in the new micro-district of Ekaterinburg - Academic. It covers an area of about 1300 hectares, where residential buildings with a total area of 9 million square meters will be hanging out, social and economic infrastructure will amount to about 4 million square meters. This town-planning project is by far the largest in Russia.

In addition to residential areas in the town and all related infrastructure in the form of schools, kindergartens, shopping and entertainment centers, the buildings of the Medacademy will be built here. It is planned that the entire microdistrict will form a single cluster.

One of the schools is already open and hosted children in 2016, the regional budget spent about 600 million rubles on its construction. The educational institution has at its disposal a swimming pool, a theater hall, a well-equipped library, a lecture hall and an atrium.

Grand opening

The opening of the "Akademicheskaya" heating center was a landmark event not only for Ekaterinburg and the whole region, but also for the whole industry as a whole. The project of construction of a microdistrict and opening in it of new effective heating center became a new way of formation of a city inhabited space. The launch of the station brought together honorary guests, among them A. Inyucin (Deputy Minister of Energy), E. Kuyvashev (Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region), A. Jakob (Head of the Administration of Yekaterinburg) and others.

The construction of the "Academic" TPP and its successful commissioning demonstrate the revived potential of the country. For some time in Russia, new nationwide projects were not implemented, knowledge-intensive technologies were poorly introduced, there were no opportunities and programs for effective modernization and replacement of obsolete equipment. The implementation of the first large-scale program of the Government allows us to hope for a successful solution of many pressing problems in various sectors of the economy.

Investments in development

Investments in the project of the Thermal Power Plant "Akademicheskaya" amounted to about 12 billion rubles. The constructed power unit, according to the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region E. Kuyvashev , will ensure the energy security of the whole region and will serve as the final stage of the general development plan for Yekaterinburg.

Also, the station provides more than 160 jobs for highly qualified personnel. For industrial enterprises, it is possible to increase output and reduce its cost due to the consumption of cheap energy carriers.

Station Description

The "Akademicheskaya" thermal power station is the final stage of the implementation of the investment energy project of the "T Plus" group. Construction of the station began in 2014, in the summer of 2016, starting-up and adjustment activities and checking the readiness of the facility by Rostekhnadzor already began. The first energy supplies occurred on August 1 of the same year. The general contractor for the construction was OOO Uralenergostroy.

The grand opening of the "Academic" TPP was held on September 13, 2016. The station became part of the implementation of the program to update the entire energy system of the country. The modernization plan was enacted over a decade ago and envisages the introduction of almost 30 gigawatts of new capacity. The system of project financing became an innovation in the program - a mechanism was developed to attract private capital.

The basis of the Thermal Power Plant "Akademicheskaya" is a combined-cycle plant with a heat output of 403 Gcal / h and an electric capacity of 220 MW. Almost all the equipment of the heating plant was produced at Russian enterprises, except for the Alstom gas turbine unit . The work of the CHPP provides more than 200-t multi-storey houses, more than 300-ton nurseries for preschool children and 210 schools.

Features of the new station

Before the launch of the "Academic" TPP, builders and engineers had to carry out several innovations that did not occur at other facilities:

• The tower cooling tower was replaced by a compact ventilation system, thereby reducing steam emissions to the atmosphere.
• The electro-gas switchgear occupies a site just 36 meters wide, previously the area under such a device occupied about 150 meters.
• The degree of water purification is increased tenfold thanks to new equipment. This opportunity is only available at the Akademicheskaya TPP.
• All technological processes are fully automated. Specialists say that more than 800 kilometers of cable were installed to support the work.
• The station provides the end user with heat at the lowest in the cost area.
• The industrial enterprises of the city and the region were able to use additional capacities, and hence development, thanks to the work of the station of the Akademicheskaya TPP (Yekaterinburg).

Address

The opening of the new heating plant was marked by several events. So, the management of the investment company "T Plus" handed the governor of the region Ye. Kuyvashev "diamond" - a symbolic display of the value and significance of the station for builders and townspeople. The heating plant absorbed all the best and advanced, became the final stage of the company's investment program and gave life to the largest micro-district of Yekaterinburg.
