The Yana River in Yakutia: description and features. Brief description of the Yana River in the Magadan Region

Fusing, the Left and Right Yana form a small water stream, located in one of the regions of Russia. Its mouth is the Sea of Okhotsk, and an important tributary is the Seymkan. The Yana River is located in the Magadan Region, in the north-east of the state. There are suggestions that the name came from the nearby village of Yana.

In the place where the water flow flows into the Sea of Okhotsk, is located the village of Tauisk, founded several centuries ago, in 1652. By right this settlement is considered to be one of the oldest in the region. Its boundary is the Yana River. The Magadan Region, in which it is located, is rich in brown bears. There are also Siberian anglers here. It is often possible to meet such birds as a snipe and a long-fingered sandpiper.

One should not confuse Yana, located in the Magadan region, with the Yakut water stream of the same name, which will be discussed next.

Geography of water flow

The Yana River in Yakutia occupies 872 km. The area of its basin is 238 thousand square meters. Km. Its mouth is the Laptev Sea. It is formed at the point of confluence of rivers that flow down from the Verkhoyansk Range, Dulgalakh and Sartang. In some areas, the delta of the river can expand to 10 km. It has many ducts. The main one is Samandon, which even has its own delta. Flowing through the Yano-Indigir lowland, it divides into sleeves. In the basin of the river there are more than 30 thousand lakes, different in size.

Hydrology

The food of the Yana River is rain, and also snow. In the middle reaches, the water level in the stream is 9 m, while in the lower reaches this figure grows to 12 m. The glaciation occurs in October, while Yana freezes first to the upper reaches, and then this process reaches the mouth. Opens in May or June. Near the village called Verkhnoyansk water freezes for 110 days.

Tributaries

The Yana River has a lot of tributaries, but the most important among all are:

  • Pumpkin. Formed at an altitude of about 300 m. Length - 241 km, swimming pool - 5000 square meters. Km. In this part of the river there are no settlements.
  • Bytantai. The source is near the Verkhoyansk Range. The length of the river is 586 km, the pool occupies 40 thousand square meters. Km. The main food is provided by melted and rain water.
  • Baki. Flows in the Verkhoyansk region. Begins on the ridge of the Kular. The length of Baku reaches 172 km, the pool - 3020 sq. Km. Km.
  • Adycha. The length exceeds 700 km. The source is located on the slope of the Chersky Range. It flows in the Vehoyansky and Tomponsky Districts. The Adychi River feeds on snow and rain.
  • Oldeau (or Oljo). Like the other tributaries, it flows in the Verkhnojasky district, and also has snow and rain food. The river bed is winding in some parts of the river. The length of the water flow is 330 km. The beginning takes in the ridge of Hadaranya in the lake of the same name.

  • Abyrabyt. It is due to the merger of Semeyka and Badiai. The river occupies only 120 km. Covered with ice in the middle of autumn, opened in May. The food is dominated by rain and snow.

Relief and soil

The Yana River at the source has a mountain-taiga relief. Not far, in Ust-Janske, there is the Yano-Indigirskaya lowland. There are many sleeves here, and the bed is too winding. The valley is deep and wide enough. In the area where its size reaches 10 km, the water flow is divided into channels. The thresholds can only meet in a channel.

On the territory of Yana are located permafrost alluvial soils. In some areas you can find clayey species.

Flora and fauna of the river Yana

In this area, the species of animals characteristic of such zones as the forest-tundra and tundra are very common. You can also notice some plants that are listed in the Red Book of Yakutia. Here grow birches, kayandera, willow, aspen, elfin, hawthorn, tolle, sedge. Also often found raspberry, dog rose, prince, cowberry, mother-and-stepmother, snowdrop, blueberry. Among the fish, the most common species are bream, sterlet, pike, pike perch, roach, cider, perch and others.

Settlements

On the banks of the river Yana are numerous settlements. This port of Nizhneyansk, the city of Verkhoyansk, Ust-Kuyga, Batagay.

  • Verkhoyansk. In Yakutia is the most northern city. The population for 2015 is 1150 people. The number of people living is one of the smallest settlements. It is also considered the coldest city in the world. It is interesting that in 1892 the temperature was recorded 67 degrees below zero.
  • Ust-Kuyga. UGT Ust-Kuiga is located in Yakutia, in the Ust-Yansky ulus. Here there is an airport, a transshipment warehouse for some areas.
  • Batagay. The Yana River, namely its right bank, departed the Batagay PGT. It is the administrative center of its district. Here is the continental climate that affects the standard of living of people.
  • The port of Nizhneyansk. It is located in the mouth of the river, in the city of Nizhneyansk, which is the main transport center.

On the Batagai-Verkhoyansk section, the river is considered navigable, however, only during high water. From the mouth for 730 km it is quite suitable for barges and ferries. Many crossings have been built on Yana, but their work can be suspended due to certain climatic conditions, which can completely paralyze the process.
