The slider is a fish belonging to the form of labyrinthine

Anabas, or anabas testudineus, is the name of the fish-slider. It refers to labyrinthine fishes, which differ from all others in the presence of this labyrinth above the gills, or an additional respiratory organ.
More than 6 hours (some sources claim that from 6 hours to several days, it all depends on the temperature and humidity of the air) can be labyrinth without water. This feature helps them to leave the drying ponds. By land and even by trees, these fish move with fins.

Habitat

The slider is a fish, which, like every creature on earth, has a scientific classification. They belong to the chord (type), ray (class), percussion (detachment). The habitat of these small, infrequently reaching in length 18 (according to some information - 25) centimeters of bone fishes is the fresh water bodies of South Asia, more specifically India, Indonesia, and Burma. They also occur in the Philippine Islands. In some articles, the whole Southeast Asia is called the habitat and it is even specified that in China these fish are found in rice fields. They are shallow, and shallow reservoirs often dry up, so the anabases creep in whole jambs into new lakes and streams with little flowing water. These fish like slightly salted water. They come up with muddy ponds and ditches.

Appearance

The slider is a fish, like all the perciforms, seemingly outwardly unremarkable. The color is gray or brownish-green, and on the stomach - yellowish. Well developed fins, especially the thoracic and anal fins, are provided with sharp spines (they are also located along the gill cover) - all this helps the anabases to move overland and climb trees. Upper fin long and short. The average speed of movement over the land is 10 meters in 6 minutes. But such amazing abilities do not save absolutely all the Anabas, who, for their own trouble, have very tasty meat. In their areas of residence, many residents are engaged in their artificial breeding, since the slider is a fish that is in great demand in the market.

Conditions of life and reproduction

In live nature, especially during the moments of creeping, the anabases are caught very actively, here the phrase "barehanded" is appropriate. But catching them in this way is not recommended - wounds from sharp fins do not heal for a long time. Many crawlers do not get to the pond in hot weather and dry out in the sun. But there are among them either lazy people, or visionaries: they do not set out on a journey in search of a new reservoir, but burrow into mud. There, and waiting for new rains, which must be completed no later than 48 hours - this is how much a fish can live in the mud, which is buried, swinging all over.

The life of anabas is 5 years. They become sexually mature at the age of 1.5 years. The female lays eggs from 2.5 to 5 thousand pieces, and the couple keeps guarding future fry that hatch on the second day, as there are many hunters on them. They spawn in the middle layers of water or near the soil itself.

Aquarium Anabases

By nature, the slider is a predator fish. It feeds on itself similar and every small living creature: worms and other invertebrates. Therefore, the aquarium anabas, which retains all the properties and habits of the slider living in nature, is contained in a separate container. If you want to start this fish in a home aquarium, you need to take into account the fact that the fish-slider is very gluttonous (it feeds only on live food) and is very pugnacious. The aquarium also requires special training: it is necessary to create islands on which the anabas will breathe air. It should have a free lighted place for swimming and spawning, as well as many algae, snags and all sorts of shelters - the fish is rather shy. Species aquarium should be closed with a well-fixed glass, located above the water surface at a distance of not less than 10 centimeters - the fish jumps out. Aquariums are much smaller than the sliders that live in natural conditions. But still it is a large Climbing perch (another name) - they grow to 15 cm. The male is painted brighter, and the female is thicker. For aquarists in wide access there is the most detailed special information. In the aquariums of the Soviet Union, the fish-slider appeared in 1960. Everywhere it is noted that outwardly the anabas resembles a cyclidus: the same elongated body, the lines of back and abdomen are straight, the head is large.

If such a fish has a black spot over the gills - it's a fish-slider (photo attached).
