If we consider this area in more detail, then water sports are any sport that is somehow connected with water, although many traditionally include only those that are directly related to swimming. Competitions can be arranged both on open water - on rivers or seas, and in special pools. If we take into account all the diversity, then we can say that the sports that are traditionally held in open water are somewhat larger.

It should be added that this sport is now actively developing, new Olympic disciplines are being added, different championships are being organized with their own regulations. In particular, it is worth noting that recently decided to establish the World Aquatics Championships, which will be held in Russia for the first time, will be held in 2015 in Kazan. In addition, there are regular championships in swimming, diving, water floor, etc.

Categories of sports

There are several conditional categories on which water sports are divided, first of all, this division into team and individual, and there are also some sports where various additional means and equipment are used. Every sport is different in its rules and features, and often each kind is absolutely unlike the other. So the rules of the water floor assume the division into teams with a fixed number of players. While a different number of athletes can take part in speeches on synchronized swimming.

All competitions are also divided among themselves in some categories. As a rule, the main category is the scale of the competitions and their prestige in the international arena. It is possible to single out national competitions held within one country, regional (for example, covering only Europe), world ones. Particular attention is drawn to Olympic sports, including water polo, swimming, jumping and synchronized swimming. However, for example, water skiing and sailing, although considered somewhat less popular, but still have a large number of fans.

Water sports in Russia

Russia has traditionally been and remains a country where water sports are highly developed. This has gone on since ancient times, when the propaganda of sports, including swimming, was actively conducted in the USSR. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the situation deteriorated noticeably, a whole generation of pupils was practically lost, which is felt ten years later, i.e. now. However, a similar situation is observed everywhere. Now the policy is actively pursued to restore Russian sport, including schools of water species, basins and centers are being built. However, before all this begins to give results, it will take at least 5-10 years.

In addition, under the auspices of the general policy under the popularization of this area, other water sports are found by their supporters. In some regions, scuba diving and scuba diving actively developed, both among amateurs and professionals. Some of our athletes begin to compete in international surfing competitions, although this is more likely an exception to the rules.

As already mentioned, the government actively supports and develops water sports, now new facilities are being built in many cities, in particular, some universities receive financial support for the construction of their own basin.
