The most expensive currency - the top five ranking

How much does the money cost? As a rule, to answer this question, a person calculates how much he can buy for a particular amount. Roughly speaking, if for ten rubles you can buy one tomato, then a denomination of ten rubles is exactly one tomato. So ordinary people think.

But in fact, the value of the currency is determined by how much it costs in transferring to other money. Today, most of the world's currencies are tied to the dollar, but not "the American" is the honorary title "the most expensive currency in the world". Then who is? Eastern countries, where oil is the main source of income, are leading in the rating "the most expensive currency". And this is natural, because countries where the highest standard of living and the largest number of millionaires "per square meter" simply can not have a cheap currency.

For example, Kuwait, which has been officially recognized for many years by a country whose national currency is the most expensive currency, surpasses any other state in the world in terms of the number of millionaires. Attention, every fifteenth citizen of this country is a millionaire!

The national currency of Kuwait is called the Kuwaiti dinar. To date, its rate against the dollar is 1 = 3.5, to the euro - 1 = 2.7, and for one dinar of Kuwait can be bought for almost 109 rubles.

By the way, the currency of Kuwait - the most expensive currency in the world for several decades. So, in 84 of the last century for one dinar it was possible to buy $ 3.28 or 2.79 rubles of the USSR. And the modern national currency appeared in Kuwait in 1961. The Kuwaiti dinar came to replace the Indian rupee, which was in circulation on the territory of the country in previous years.

Once Kuwait allowed the revaluation of its currency against the dollar by one percent. This happened in 2006. And in the next year, 2007, the Kuwaiti dinar exchange rate, instead of the US dollar, was tied to a multi-currency basket. Since then, its value has only increased. It is interesting that Kuwaiti dinar bills are printed on plastic.

In the rating "the most expensive currency" second and third place also belong to the eastern states, where money, figuratively speaking, "smells" of oil. This is the Bahraini dinar, which was also used by the UAE in 1966-1973 (until it was replaced by the dirham of the United Arab Emirates) and the money of the eastern country of Oman. The authorities of the countries that are in the Persian Gulf, in the near future are planning to introduce a single national currency. Its name is not yet known.

In Europe, the most expensive currency, oddly enough, is the Latvian lat. This currency was in use in Latvia even before the war, in 1922 - 1940. The Latvian armor returned to the purses of its citizens in 1993, after gaining independence.

The fifth place among the most expensive currencies in the world is the monetary unit of Great Britain - the well-known pound sterling. The first pounds of the Bank of England was issued in 1694. For two centuries, the pound sterling had the status of the main reserve currency almost all over the world. But after World War II, the US money began to dominate. Today, the US dollar is gradually losing its primacy. What currency will dominate the planet in 20 years time will tell.
