The introduction of drugs rectally is how?

We are used to the fact that the doctor always appoints the patient tablets and potions for oral intake, however, in medical practice, there are many drugs that are injected into the body rectally. What is it like? Yes, it's very simple. The rectal route of administration of the drug suggests that the patient will receive the drug through the rectum. Now that we have understood the concept of what is "rectal", we can consider the types of drugs intended for use through the rectum.

Means for rectal administration can be of two types: special suppositories (suppositories), or enemas and microclysters. Candles are used both to influence the body as a whole, for example, antipyretic drugs are often released in the form of suppositories, especially for children, and for the local treatment of emerging gynecological or hemorrhoid diseases. To microclysters very often resorted to as purifying, enveloping, oily and antipyretic agents. In the case of them (except antipyretic), the liquid is introduced into the body, pre-heating it to 30 ° C.

Rectal administration of the drug is especially indicated for patients who wish to reduce the burden on the liver, stomach and kidneys. Microclysters of a purifying nature have been widely used in medicine to eliminate constipation. In diarrhea, on the contrary, the enema envelope helps well, which includes starch and rice broth. If suddenly a foreign body gets into the intestine, then an oil enema from slightly warmed vegetable oil will help to remove it from the body.

To introduce the drug rectally is how to put an injection. Only a syringe will not be needed in this case. It will be replaced by a candle or enema. To put a candle in the patient's body, you have to put it on your left side, bend your legs in your lap and press it to your stomach, get the candle out of the package and push it into the anal hole with your finger as far as possible so that it does not suddenly jump out under natural pressure. For reliability, it takes a few minutes to let the patient lie down while squeezing the buttocks. Get up from bed is recommended only after 20-30 minutes, waiting for complete dissolution of the drug. Get up the first ten minutes is not recommended, the same as going to the toilet. The rule of the "empty intestine" and the bladder acts not only for candles, but also for enemas.

Before the introduction of the drug, you must go to the toilet. If it is necessary to put micro-enema rectally, this complicates the process, because in this case the liquid from the syringe is introduced into the anal opening gradually, for a sufficiently long time, which causes some discomfort to the patient. It is important to consider that a single-time volume of microclystation can not be more than 100 or, in extreme cases, 120 ml.

Despite the listed advantages, there are negative moments of introduction of the drug rectally - this is both the impossibility of using hypertonic solutions, and the possibility of irritation and inflammation of the rectal mucosa after several doses of the drug, which is difficult to prevent by simultaneous or initial administration of enveloping agents, otherwise the absorption of the drug will be impaired, and The effect will still be zero.

Negative aspects include the patient's restriction in movements (in order not to provoke the drug out). That's why such procedures are advised to be carried out whenever possible before going to bed. The disadvantages include the fact that some amount of drug is absorbed into the body. An alternative to the introduction of drugs into the patient's body may be subcutaneous injections.
