The film "Once Upon a Time in America": the actors participating in the film project are Hollywood stars of the first magnitude

In 1984, the movie "Once Upon a Time in America" was created at the Embassy International Pictures studio. Actors and roles in the production process were chosen in the most careful way, because the subject matter of the film was very specific, peculiar to gangster scenes.

Gangster History

The film "Once Upon a Time in America", the actors and roles in which fully corresponded to the ideological content and the creative intent of the screenwriters, was the last work of the famous director Sergio Leone.

The film is devoted to the activities of gangster groups that settled in the East Side, the Jewish district of New York, in the 20s of the last century. Many members of the gang were born and grew up there, so they rightfully considered the nearby neighborhoods to be their original territory. Strangers trying to penetrate the Lower East Side were immediately expelled and sometimes killed.

The four-hour film tells about the excesses of gangsters for over fifty years, about how police structures fused with gangster groups. Order-keepers quickly became part of organized crime, and their chief was one of the Mafia's entourage.

Star Composition

The actors of the movie "Once Upon a Time in America" are predominantly Hollywood stars of the first magnitude, such as Robert de Niro, James Woods, William Forsythe, Elizabeth McGovern, James Hayden. A talented game of performers allowed to create in the film a number of memorable images.

The protagonist Aaronson David, nicknamed "Noodles" (as Robert de Niro) began his gangster career as a teenager. Theft, robbery, racketeering, the spread of drugs - this is not a complete list of crimes that committed young bandits. And when Max Berkovich appeared in the district (the role is played by James Woods), then a real war began between the owners of the quarter and the new competitors. However, the confrontation between the two groups did not last long, Noodles and Max found a common language and began to engage in looting together.

The dedication of the filmmakers

The Gangster genre, in which director Sergio Leone created his masterpiece, is quite ample opportunities for the director, since you can add as many characters as you like and develop the action in several directions at once. The film "Once Upon a Time in America," whose actors are highly professional, has become an example of the quality work of the entire film crew. The director set the tone for the whole process, despite the fact that at that time he had the first signs of a deadly disease.

When the film "Once Upon a Time in America" was shot, the actors were on the set for twelve hours in a row. This was not a manifestation of enthusiasm, rather, the performers of roles captured the creative process. Everyone wanted to shoot as many episodes as possible.

Retrospection

The picture is built on the intertwining of three lengths of time: the 1920s, the 30's and partly the 60's. All major events are shown through the prism of the vision of Aaronson David, the protagonist, who periodically leaves his native places to return after many years. Sergio Leone widely uses the principle of retrospective display in the film, and for such a film as "Once Upon a Time in America" (the actors supported the maestro in everything, becoming like-minded for the whole period of filming), this style is the most favorable. The stunning success of the film tells about the correct choice of staging techniques, which the venerable director used.
