Stayer is a runner for long distances

Many people have heard such a not very clear word "stayer". Who is this? What does he do? Not everyone knows the answers to these questions. Someone will remember that the name is somehow connected with sports: track and field athletics or cycling. Someone will argue and say that with psychology. So who is right?

Who is the stayer

So, for most, the stayer is a runner for long distances. But at present the term is used much broader.

The very word came to us from the English language. In translation, stayer means "hardy person". Perhaps, this is the most important and basic characteristic, which fully conveys both the character and the mode of human actions. For the first time the term has been used specifically in the sports field to refer to athletes specializing in long distances. First in athletics, and then in other sports. Now the stoyers call not only runners, but also riders, skaters, etc.

What distances does the runway run?

In athletics it is common to divide all distances into short, medium and long distances. The latter includes running to 3000, 5000, 10,000 or more meters. Marathons and half marathons are completely separate types of disciplines and they stand somewhat apart. To attribute them to stayer distances is erroneous. 42-kilometer cross run special athletes - marathon runners. Thus, long distances are considered from 3000 to 30,000 meters. Competitions are held, as a rule, in stadiums with a special coating. Runs from 10 to 30 km are more often on the highway. Cross-country cross-country can also be conducted.

Stayer: features of technology, running at a distance

A runner for short distances uses running on his toes, but not a stayer. This creates an extra burden on the ankle, and the muscles get tired faster. As a rule, a stop with a long run is placed on the front, and then everything falls. The arms are bent at right angles or slightly sharper, the body moves slightly forward.

When running it is important to correctly distribute the forces, so that it is enough for the whole distance. Therefore, uniform running or with uniform acceleration is used. Final spurt is made on the last lap for 200-300 m at medium distances and for 300-400 m at a distance of more than 3000 m.

Than the stayer is different from the sprinter

2 different types of runners are distinguished not only by the technique and tactics of running and the length of distances. There are also a number of physiological differences. This determines which distances will be more successful for a person. Strongly mistaken are those who think: "If the athlete runs perfectly 1500 m or 3000 m, he will easily run through the hundred-meter mark, the distance is less." 100 m stagers usually do not run very well. And this is connected with this.

Sprinters are better served by fast fibers, which do not need oxygen for carrying out metabolic processes. This is an anaerobic load. The musculature works quickly and efficiently, but it soon becomes tired, because in the absence of oxygen, the energy reserve is quickly consumed.

A stayer is one with slow fibers, where the metabolism lasts longer. Plus oxygen is used for oxidation-reduction processes. The body experiences an aerobic exercise. The energy consumption is lower, but the speed is lower.

Another important difference is that sprinters and stairers use different muscle groups and train their different qualities to overcome the distance. The constitution is also very different, which is very clear in the competitions: 100 m athletes with inflated muscles come out, and 3000 m and more - lean, literally skin and bones.

The sprinter and the stayer are not only in track and field

The concepts of "stayer" and "sprinter" became so firmly established that they were used not only in sports. Now such concepts exist in psychology. They designate strategies for behavior in everyday life and for achieving the goal.

Stayer is someone who can work at a single pace for a long time. He distributes the load evenly, literally signs by the hour. He also works evenly, at a strictly defined time, as they say, from a call to a call, he is diligent. The distribution of forces is similar to running at a distance. The stayer will gather and adjust for a long time before starting something new, the changes will be made gradually, but after starting, he will not give up.

Sprinters, on the contrary, prefer to act on a wave of enthusiasm, carrying out a huge amount of work in a short time. They can tighten to the last, in order to literally turn the mountains in a day or two. In life they act the same way: they start something new (for example, they change the regime of the day), but after a while it is difficult for them to adhere to the established rules. And they lose interest and give up.

Of course, a sprinter and a stayer are 2 extreme points. In their pure form they are rare. And in life it is necessary to use both tactics to succeed. On the one hand, you need to be able to make a jerk to start something new, on the other - to calculate the strength, in order not to throw a brilliant idea in a couple of days.
