Shed of corrugated board by own hands: installation, instruction, advice

A barn, or non-residential building for storage of household equipment, usually without heating, is indispensable for any private home. Most of the tools, garden and garden tools store in the house is uncomfortable. First of all, because of debris and dirt, which, one way or another, remain on it even after cleaning. Use to store a specially equipped room helps to accurately position the existing tool and avoid getting garbage into the apartment building.

The barn is no different from any other structure and has the obligatory standard elements: foundation, walls and roof. But its main difference is a simpler design. This makes it possible to use building materials that are usually not used for an apartment building. First of all, profiled sheet. A shed of profiled sheeting (the most common name) is the best option for building an utility room.

What is corrugated board?

This material is a sheet of metal, made of galvanized steel, which passes mandatory profiling to give stiffness. The finished product has a corrugated surface in the form of a wave or a trapezoid and may further comprise a polymer or other coating. Despite the invention as far back as 1820, mass distribution was received relatively recently, mainly due to a variety of color gamut coverage and low cost.

It is widely used in the construction of fences, mainly fences, walls and roofs of non-residential premises. For example, you can make a shed of corrugated board. The sheets may differ:

  • By purpose (wall or roofing);
  • The shape of the corrugation and its height (from 8 to 57 mm);
  • Thickness of the sheet (from 0.4 to 1.0 mm);
  • The type of coating applied and its thickness;
  • In size.

When choosing a sheet, the thickness, type and coating layer are critical.

Advantages of corrugated board

If you build a barn from corrugated board, you can get a number of significant advantages:

  1. A simple installation that does not require any special tools. This allows you to build a barn from the corrugated board with your own hands to almost any person.
  2. Guaranteed protection from moisture and other deposits due to polymer coating and galvanized steel.
  3. Insignificant weight, reducing the requirements for the foundation of the shed and the frame.
  4. The opportunity to fit in with the interior of the plot at the expense of a wide range of colors.

The only drawbacks of using profiled sheets are:

  1. Increased transmission of sound when using it for the construction of a roof, which for a utility room is not particularly important.
  2. Loss of protective anticorrosive properties when the protective layer is damaged, which can be prevented by eliminating potential mechanical threats (objects or branches).

How to build a barn

To build a barn from corrugated board, it is necessary to strictly follow the sequence of actions and have a minimal tool. The sequence of work is typical for the construction of any other object in a somewhat simplified form. There are several basic steps:

  • Development of a construction drawing and calculation of estimates;
  • The choice and clearing of the place;
  • Foundation preparation;
  • Installation of the frame of future construction;
  • Roof installation;
  • Fixation of corrugated board;
  • Installation of doors and windows and interior decoration.

Observing this sequence, the question "how to build a barn from corrugated board" can be considered solved.

Drawing, estimate and choice of material

Before starting work, it is necessary to calculate the dimensions of the future barn taking into account the intended use, the size of the tool and other items that will be stored there. After this, it is necessary to draw a drawing on which to reflect the location of walls, doors or windows. Further on the basis of dimensions it is desirable to prepare the skeleton of the future construction, on which the locations of the support and strapping posts will be marked. This will greatly simplify the calculation of the necessary building materials and the installation process, which are done at the next stage.

To build the frame, you can use a metal profile or a bar. The use of timber is cheaper, in addition to this, it is much easier to work with wood. The metal frame is considered more reliable, and the construction, if assembled on bolts, and not welded, is easily disassembled if necessary.

The wooden beam can be a section of 100 to 100 mm, for a metal profile, a cross section of 20 to 40 mm is sufficient. It is desirable to choose a rectangular shape, this will simplify the fixing of the corrugated board.

For self-assembly, especially if the experience of such works is insignificant, it is recommended to use only the tree for the frame.

Preparation of the place and filling of the foundation

The choice of location depends on several factors:

  • Distance from home;
  • Availability of fertile land under the shed;
  • Location of other buildings on the site.

Usually the choice of the location of the shed is at the stage of preparing the drawing and conducting the measurements. The chosen place should be cleared and, depending on the type of foundation, remove part of the top layer.

For the structure of corrugated board you can use a tape or columnar foundation, since the whole structure has a small weight, but you can make it monolithic. In this case, the foundation can be floor. In the other two versions, the floor will have to be done, although there are buildings where its role is played by ordinary land.

The process of preparation of the foundation necessarily includes the installation of formwork, reinforcement and concrete pouring. If a column foundation is used, the supports are located along the entire perimeter and additionally along the long walls, usually after 2 or 3 meters. For tape and monolithic pouring occurs around the perimeter.

Mounting the frame

The construction of the frame begins with the installation of the lower strapping, which serves as the basis for the vertical racks and the future floor. The beam is fixed by the "spike-groove" method, for this purpose it is enough to have a regular hacksaw, an ax and a hammer, and additionally is fastened with metal corners or bolts. If there is a floor in the shed, cross bars are set in a similar way in steps of 40 or 50 cm, which are then sewn on the board.

On the received frame are established support pillars from a bar, are exposed on a level and fixed by the top bandage. Fastening is made in the same way: long self-tapping screws, twisted at an angle, metal corners or bolts.

Racks are installed in steps of not more than 1 meter. In the process of assembling the frame, a door and window opening is separately installed.

Roof installation

The roof of the barn made of corrugated board can be made in two ways:

  • With one slope, in this case one of the walls must be higher than the other to create an angle of at least 30 °;
  • With two slopes, for this purpose the height of the walls is the same.

Regardless of the chosen option, rafters are first installed on which a board of planks is attached. It can be continuous or with an interval. Before fixing the corrugated board, it is necessary to put any waterproofing material. This will not only prevent moisture from falling during precipitation during the year, but also keep from the condensate that forms on the surface of the metal.

For a roof it is desirable to purchase a special roofing profiled sheet, which differs in structure from the wall, although it costs an average of 50% more expensive. If a gable roof is mounted, an additional ridge is added to cover the joint of the sheets.

Mounting of corrugated board

Fastening is carried out by special self-tapping screws with a drill at the end (for passing metal) and rubber gasket. Their length should be greater than the wave sheet not less than 35 mm. Be sure to pay attention to the purpose of self-tapping screws, as they are for attaching both to metal and wood. Screws are usually twisted to the bottom of the wave sheets, which are installed with the overlap. The magnitude of the overlap and the distance between the screws is equal to one wave.

Installation is carried out from the long sides of the shed using a wall sheet. If the structure has a saddle roof, each leaf must be cut by a Bulgarian to obtain a wedge shape.

After fixing them on the walls of the barn, a waterproofing and, if desired, a thermal insulation material, usually a mineral wool, is laid between the support posts.

The frame of the door is assembled from a bar and covered with a wall sheet. Inside the insulator can also be laid. If windows are planned in the shed, they can be made of glass or polycarbonate.

Inside, the easiest way is to cover the room with plywood or OSB slabs. But if you want for walls you can use inexpensive plastic.

Cost of work

Apparently, to understand how to make a shed of corrugated board is not difficult. Simple fixings and familiar materials. With a certain skill, work is possible even for one person. If you seek help from specialists to make a shed of corrugated board, the price per square meter on average will be about 250 rubles, plus this addition will be added to the preparation of the foundation. As a result, it makes sense to do the work yourself and to save money for the best quality material.

In addition, any construction made by own hands brings an unforgettable sense of satisfaction.
