Sergey Kostenko, having graduated from the hockey school in Novokuznetsk, began to speak for "Kuznetsk bears". His first performance for this club coincided with the debut of the team in the MHL.

In his first game the club met with the favorite of the league - the Ufa "Tolpar". "Kuznetsk bears" in a bitter struggle were defeated with a score of 3: 4. The first victory in the MHL for this young goalkeeper took place in Togliatti on September 8, 2009. International career

Sergey Kostenko was regularly involved in the national team for playing at international tournaments. He joined the junior team to participate in the World Cup, which was held in 2010. Our team showed a decent hockey, and everyone included it in the list of favorites. But she could not win medals at this tournament. In the match for bronze medals, the Russian team lost the Finnish national team with a devastating score. Sergei Kostenko, a hockey player from Kuzbass, also entered the list of players who played for the national team at the youth world championship in 2012. But before the tournament he was the third goalkeeper. Not having spent a single game at this championship, Kostenko still became a silver medalist at the World Youth Championship.
