"Sayan Ring" - both a tourist route and an ethnofestival

The International Ethnic Festival, held annually in the south of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, was called the Sayan Ring. It existed from 2003 to 2012, except 2006.

Demanded project

The very first festival brought together musical ethnic groups from Buryatia and Tuva, Altai, Khakassia and the Krasnoyarsk Territory - only about 40 groups. The audience came to about 7000 people. A festival was held in Shushenskoe, an urban-type settlement, where there is a rather large and well-equipped modern sound and light equipment district center of culture. For a sufficient number of years this city hosted tourists following the route "Sayan Ring". Maybe that's why the festival got its name.

One of the pearls of Siberia

The infrastructure in Shushenskoye is well developed, although it is remote from Krasnoyarsk and Abakan. In addition, there is the only monument in Russia in the Siberian village of the late XIX century. Everything genuine - a tavern and grocery store, barns and huts of both wealthy and poor peasants. On personal plots all the necessary cultures for life grow, as it was at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries.

Where, how not to host the festival of ethnic music "Sayan Ring"?

The ideological leader of the festival was Andrei Kataev, who conceived it as a one-time event (an exclusive project aimed at promoting an idea). But immediately after the opening it became clear that the idea is very in demand and timely - the musicians must meet annually. Thanks to these original collectives, the cultural traditions of the peoples inhabiting Siberia are preserved. For the first time collectives of ethnic music met and loudly announced themselves.

The project turned out to be so successful that for the second festival "Sayan Ring", which took place in 2004, the musicians came from all over Siberia. And then - more, and now the festival takes on the status of an international one. He is highly appreciated by all musical officials, supported by famous domestic and foreign musicians from France, the USA and Great Britain, from Ireland and the Netherlands.

Organizers and managers

The first and second show of ethnomusicians was directed by Artemy Troitsky, beginning with the third one - Sergey Starostin, a multi-instrumentalist, well-known musician, collector and arranger of Russian folk music.

"Sayan Ring" is a festival known to many and having more than a representative expert advice to the jury. Famous domestic masters of ethnic music and prominent representatives from other countries select individual musicians and ensembles whose mastery corresponds to the high level of the festival.

Despite the fact that the number of participants has grown to 100 nominees, the number of those wishing to get to the Sayan Ring in Shushenskoye is growing every year. For those who were not included in the number of contestants and performers in 2013, the third scene was opened. At the same time, the number of spectators increased to 35,000.

Sign Events

It should be noted that this review is being perfected all the time, the program is becoming more diversified with various master classes and lectures. The Sayan ring from 2019-2010. Contains a powerful educational and communicative component - participants acquire a new ethno-experience and improve what is already available. There are new folklore events - dances, crafts, ritual performances. To the unconditional merits of the festival can be attributed the commissioning of an open-air cinema, in which films related to ethnoculture are demonstrated. The cinema took visitors in 2009. The opening in 2010 of an ethno-jazz laboratory allowed musicians who came from other countries and worked in different traditions to improvise and freely exchange views on different facets of classical, folk and contemporary music. The opening of this laboratory is considered a landmark event in the history of the Sayan Ring.

Steady growth of status

It resurrects forgotten dances, crafts, tunes, games - everything that surrounded the life of distant ancestors. The most important thing is that the guests of the festival take an active part in all events. It should be added that the network has a three-day festival program with detailed breakdown not only by day, but also by hour, minute. The composition of the jury, as well as the members of the expert council, with all the regalia of each, is also widely available. The fact that the status of the festival is growing is evidenced by the fact that since 2010 its founders are the administration of the Shushenskiy district and the Ministry of Culture of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

Undisputed achievements

The jubilee holiday in Shushenskoye "Sayan Ring", held in 2013, summed up the festival, which turned out to be more than impressive. A large and small festival area (the small one is called "EthnoTechnoPark") worked. In addition to these, a free stage and a ceremonial platform were used, the "City of Masters" for folk craftsmen, a family recreation park. And also "Ethno-interactive" and a museum. Separate words deserve "City of Masters". At the jubilee festival craftsmen who came from 16 regions of Russia created and shared their experience.

"The World of Siberia"

Therefore, it was decided that the "Sayan Ring", which is far beyond the announced at the very beginning of the framework, be renamed the "World of Siberia" - the International Festival of Ethnic Music and Crafts, which will be its successor. This decision confirmed the significantly increased status of the festival. The festival, which took place only from the 1st to 3rd September 2015, became an event in the cultural life of Russia. It is awarded several prizes, one of which, the "National Award in the field of event tourism", is one of the most prestigious in the territory of the Russian Federation.
