Satin - what is this fabric and what are its features?

Satin is a cotton fabric with a special weave of threads. The composition of the produced can vary. Everything depends on the fiber that was used in their production. The interweaving of satin threads is distinguished by the silky and smooth structure of the face of the fabric. This effect is obtained due to an unusual relationship in the weave of threads. It is in satin in the proportion of 4: 1. The most simple is considered to be an interlacing in the ratio 1: 1.

Satin. What is this fabric?

Satin has many remarkable properties. The fabric of this material is very pleasant to the touch. In addition, its difference is a kind of brilliance. The explanation is simple. Consider the composition of the fabric. Satin is a cotton thread twisted. This fact was noted in ancient times - the stronger the cotton thread is twisted, the more glitter satin. This property of the fabric often becomes the reason that it is confused with silk, which this material very much resembles at first glance.

Often, when sewing bed linen satin is used. What is this fabric for products of this kind? It should be said that this material, in addition to what looks royal, is also very strong. The glitter of satin laundry begins to fade away only after two or three hundred washings.

Types, which are divided into this tissue

Cotton (satin is made from it) is much cheaper than silk. This allows you to set a lower price for canvases from this raw material. However, the "royal" fabric is the most expensive of cotton fabrics.

The best is considered "mako-satin." What is this fabric? The production of this material uses the purest cotton. Its finest filaments give the fabric airiness and smoothness. The maximum shine of satin cloth is achieved when it is mercerized. This is the treatment of fabric with alkali. This procedure is carried out in the production process.

Cheap satin - what kind of fabric is it? In order to provide a characteristic luster, such a cloth undergoes calendering. During this process, the fabric is rolled between rolls heated to a high temperature. Calendering turns round threads into flat threads. It should be noted that this fabric loses its shine during the first wash.

There is jacquard satin. He is referred to elite cotton fabrics. This material has its own characteristics. First of all, this is a woven pattern. A peculiar weaving of yarns is created on jacquard machines. In addition, this type of elite satin has a high degree of strength and density.

Methods of coloring

There are two types. To the first of them carry reactive, to the second - pigment. The first species is the most expensive. It involves absorbing the paint directly into the fiber. At the same time, the bright color of the tissue persists for a long time. In addition, when washing it does not shed. The reactive coloration does not affect the quality of the material.

Pigmented method implies a different technology. The paint when it is used is superimposed on the fabric from above. This gives some stiffness to the canvas.
