Precious lace burgundy

Bruges lace is a distinctive and easily recognizable crochet technique, with which the ribbons are laid out with a pattern and connected by small chains of air loops. Such patterns are also called Brussels, Flemish or Vologda.

Bruges lace: a bit of history

The technique of their creation became known in the sixteenth century. At that time Flemish masters wove their precious patterns on bobbins.

West Flanders, in which, in fact, the art of bryug lace originated, at that time was part of the Netherlands. The country flourished due to active profitable trade and income from the colonies. In addition, the Flemings always differed in their love for a beautiful and cheerful disposition.

All these components led to the emergence of a filigree technique of hand knitting, which became the visiting card of the region. By beauty and high cost, Flemish laces are equated with real jewels.

Bruges lace: knitting techniques

Currently, Bryug crochet crochet is a very accurate imitation of knitting techniques on bobbin. Therefore, in the description, the specific terms "nasnovka", "Vilyushka", "lattice" and others are widely used.

The execution of the Bryug lace begins with the knitting of the braid-vilyushka, which consists of rows of columns with a crochet and air loops. Vilyushka knits straight and reverse rows and can be either more openwork or more dense in appearance.

The width of the braid can also be different - it is regulated by the number of air loops and columns with a crochet between turns. Most often its width is four bars.

A distinctive feature of the braid-vilyushki is that on the side when knitting the lifting loop knitting (air loop) is created, with the help of which it will later be joined in patterns. In more complex works, the Vinyushka can be expanded with air loops, an oblique mesh of arches, and other additional elements.

When the braid is ready, the creation of a lace pattern begins. Vilyushka can be stacked in a circle, snail, snake, wide rings, turn in various ways.

The scheme always indicates the ways of connecting fragments and the sequence of knitting. The lace pattern can consist of several motifs that are connected directly in the process of knitting. In such cases, in a good scheme, the beginning of the knitting of individual motifs is indicated by numbers or letters. The sequence can be easily identified by alphabetical order of letters or by ascending numbers.

The scheme traditionally distinguishes the beginning of the knitting of each individual motive: the air loop of the initial row, the columns of the first and second rows, and the air loop of the bow for the subsequent connection. After that, there are repeated rows, which are denoted by solid lines.

As mentioned above, the patterns laid out of the braid-vilyushki, are connected with the help of side arms. The connection itself is carried out by columns with one crochet, columns without it and air loops.

To get the bend of the braid, you need to tie off different height bars and connect or not to connect the handles that are on the inside of this bend. Different combinations of combinations and columns will give a different degree of curvature of the pattern, but this series must always be knit from the outer edge to the inner one. In this case, the reverse row must be knit even in height, so that the reverse border of the bend is neat. If a sufficiently large free space is formed between the bends of the Vinyushka, then it is closed by chains of air loops, which are weaved into an openwork spider web, but necessarily with some symmetrical geometric pattern.

The beginning and the end of the Vilyushka always close together, forming an inseparable contour. The edges are stitched with a needle or are cut out by connecting lace technique.

When you have gained enough experience, you can create patterns yourself, guided only by your imagination, and then the work will become truly unique.

Bruges lace allows you to decorate the house with cozy tablecloths, pillows, curtains. A dress, top or jacket, made in this unique technique, will become a real decoration of the wardrobe.
