Thus, in the 13th century a miner was killed in a Swedish mine, and 60 years after his death the body was completely replaced by a pyrite rock.

The shine of pyrite always attracted attention. In the Middle Ages it was called an Alpine diamond, and used for decoration by court ladies and gentlemen. However, then people were not so familiar with chemistry, so they were very surprised when the spectacular stone eventually darkened. In areas with a humid climate, it very quickly became limonite (rust).
