Participants of "Eurovision" from Russia of all seasons, for all years: list

In the last decade, the annual European song contest is at the center of attention of all residents of our state. In the spring, all mass media and ordinary citizens start a stormy discussion of the future of the vocal competition with them, in May they all fade in anticipation, well, after the final several months the whole country is excited by the results. How many of our talented performers in history have performed at the Eurovision Song Contest? List of participants from Russia, all successful and not very numbers will be described below.

Historical reference

For the first time Eurovision took place in Switzerland, and its purpose was to unite Western Europe, which is trying to recover after the war. Despite the fact that the European vocal competition has its history since 1956, the Soviet Union never sent its representatives there for understandable political reasons. The competition gained popularity and became for Europe one of the important annual events. In 1991, the Union disintegrated, and Russia, like other former republics, began to establish ties with the West, so the presence of representatives of our country at such an event remained only a matter of time. Participants of Eurovision from Russia appeared at the contest already in 1994.

Start and small statistics

The first attempt of the pen was a well-known blues singer Maria Katz, who performed under the pseudonym of Judith. Maria was chosen for such an honorable mission among 10 applicants for "Program A". Her song "Eternal Wanderer" took ninth place at the contest in Dublin, the capital of Ireland. The start was not the worst, at least, it hit the top ten, which was not achieved by Eurovision participants from Russia until 2000. Although the attempts were more than enough. Since 1994, only three times our country did not participate in the finals, but all three times in the 90's. The participants of "Eurovision" from Russia for all years to the present have reached the finals 19 times. In 1996, Andrei Kosinsky could not qualify for the finals, in 1998 Russian performers were not allowed because of low rating, and ORT did not broadcast the contest live, which was the reason for the repeated refusal in 1999. The channel was able to draw conclusions, in 2000 our country triumphantly returned to the singing match of Europe.

"Eurovision". Russia: participants and places in the 90's

After a pretty good start on the ORT decided that to represent our state at the European competition should already venerable performers, well-known in their homeland. Therefore, in 1995 again, the future pop king of the domestic stage - Philip Kirkorov - recovered to Dublin. On the assurances of the artist, he had only 10 days to prepare, after he was shocked by the news. This, probably, can explain the failure of the song "Lullaby for a Volcano," which took 17th place. Or maybe the reason was a fact revealed a little later that the composition was not original, like the majority in Kirkorov's repertoire. But, one way or another, after his failure, Philip repeatedly helped at Eurovision many Russian and not only young performers. A prima donna of the national stage with the song of the same name Alla Pugacheva in 1997 could take only 15th place, and again in Dublin. Europe could not understand and accept the style and style of Alla Borisovna, so her performance can be safely considered a failure.

Shock Five-Year Plan

After a short two-year break, our country triumphantly returned to Eurovision. The list of participants from Russia in the first years of the new millennium was very diverse. In 2000, a young Tatar singer Alsu went to Stockholm and conquered Europe with her song "Solo" and thus earned the first silver for Russia. Honored second place in the contest became a real sensation, and Alsu - a national heroine. Intoxicated by success, in 2001, the ORT producers sent a rather unusual rock band "Mumiy Troll" to Copenhagen. He and his motherland, not everyone could understand, and the Europeans especially could not, so the group is only 12th. The song of the boyz-band "Prime Minister", titled "The Girl from the North" was sung by the whole country, and its English-speaking counterpart did not find a response from Europeans in 2002 in Tallinn. Probably, the cause of the 10th place was also too much excitement for the performers. The most controversial among those who were sent to the Eurovision "Russia, the participants of all seasons - this scandalously famous maiden team" Tatu ". Unbelievable, but in 2003 in Riga they took 3rd place with the song "Do not believe, do not be afraid, do not ask", thus bringing the first bronze to your country. The next two years the participants of Eurovision from Russia were graduates of the "Star Factory". In Turkish Istanbul in 2004, Julia Savicheva performed very well. But the complex choreographic moves prevented the actress from concentrating completely on the vocals, and the result was the 12th place. Speech in Kiev in 2005, Natasha Podolskaya was the biggest failure since the days of Pugacheva, because the "manufacturer" also took 15th place.

A bright band and a real victory

Whatever it was, the domestic artists continued to perform at Eurovision. Participants from Russia for 10 years were very different. From untwisted stars to no-one known collectives. And their age fluctuated from the young stars of the children's song contest to the representatives of the older generation. In 2006, the conqueror of young hearts - Dima Bilan - went to vocal competition in Athens. His number was interesting, and the song surely had to be defeated, if not for the outrageous Finnish rock band Lordi, which overtook Dima. Delayed with the standard of good numbers, Europe craved spectacles, so Bilan was in second place. Nevertheless, it was another silver in the treasury of our country. What turned out to be symbolic is the little-known female pop group "Silver" with "Song No. 1", who went to conquer European audiences in Helsinki in 2007, but got bronze, although the third place was a very unexpected but pleasant result. But 2008 was a real sensation for Russia, because Dima Bilan, who promised to return to Eurovision and win, still kept his word. A delightful number accompanied by the violinist Edwin Marton and the figure skating star Evgeni Plushenko, as well as the stunning voice of the vocalist and the touching song did their job - conquered Europe, and Russia took the first place.

Fall from the top of the pedestal

Eurovision participants from Russia for all the years were representatives of the Federation itself, so for many people it remains a mystery how in 2009 the native of Ukraine Anastasia Prikhodko passed the qualifying round and represented our country at the contest in Moscow. The song "Mamo" in Ukrainian and Russian took only 11th place, which was a crushing defeat after the previous victory. The next Eurovision participants from Russia, new and unknown to the wide audience of the "Music Team of Peter Nalich", again took the 11th place in Norway in 2010, probably because the song was frankly boring and obviously not the format of the European competition. Such a deafening failure as that of Alexei Vorobyov in 2011 in Germany, Russian representatives have not been since the 1990s. Artist took the 16th place, and even with his name was associated with several high-profile scandals.

Unexpected decisions

After three failures in a row, the producers had to come up with something new and unusual, and they decided to make the most unexpected move that only Russia did at the Eurovision Song Contest. Participants of all seasons were more or less young artists, which can not be said about the "Buranovski grandmothers" that hit Europe in 2012. Zadorny collective of Russian old women took second place, which certainly could not be supposed. And in 2013, Russia sent young and talented Dina Garipova, the winner of the "Voice" project, who took the 5th place and entered the top ten, which was also quite a good result.

Prejudice

All the participants of Eurovision in Russia have not experienced such pressure for the last 10 years as the domestic representatives of 2014 and 2015 due to the worsening situation in the world and the overall political situation. Despite the fact that music outside politics, Europe has perceived our country in the last two years more hostile. Perhaps this factor influenced the fact that last year Tolmachev's sisters took only 9th place at the Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark, although their song and number were generally quite strong. But Polina Gagarina managed to get silver this year and come to second place, which was a source of great pride for the whole country, because they are especially concerned about their representatives in Russia.
