Painting "Gazelle" with their own hands: step by step instruction and recommendations
Unfortunately, the quality of painting of domestic cars "Gazelle" leaves much to be desired. The owners' comments say that the enamel is cracking and peeling off after 3-4 years of operation. Of course, riding a rusty car is quite unpleasant. It also repels customers. In the priority there were always only clean and well-groomed machines. Therefore, the issue of painting "Gazelle" is maturing. Photo and description of the process - later in this article.
Washing
First of all, you should thoroughly wash the car body. It is advisable to use a high pressure washer. Why so? Under high pressure, all particles of dirt are washed out, even baked in the LCP. Manually clean the body as it will "Kercher" is impossible. So first we wash all the dirt from the car.
Degreasing
Of course, if the body has fatty traces, they will not be removed even by the "Kercher". The fact is that water does not dissolve fat. To remove it, you need to use special tools. The following preparations are suitable:
- White Spirit.
- Anti-silicone.
In extreme cases, you can use gasoline. But it is better to buy solvents specifically designed for this. Pay attention to bituminous stains. These resins are difficult to remove even with white spirit, not to mention gasoline.
Body preparation
Then it is necessary to remove all plastic elements, as well as optics. All this will interfere with us when painting "Gazelle". All unnecessary parts are deleted:
- Radiator grille.
- Bumper (on the latest models of "business" he is already in the collection with the grille).
- Underlay.
- Plastic lining arches and rapids.
- Repeaters of turns and head optics.
- Antenna.
And what about the front and side windows? Of course, ideally they should be removed too. But if the time for painting is limited, you can simply glue it with a film, and the edges with a paint tape.
Cleaning of defects
To prepare the "Gazelle" for painting was successful, you must also remove all major defects:
- Chipped.
- Cracks.
- Dents.
Very often on the "Gazelle" rusted body parts.
As for dents and chips, they should be leveled with putty. It is important to apply a thin layer. Otherwise the putty will start to crack. And this will happen not now, but 6-10 months after painting. Align the layer with sandpaper. First use a pelt with a large grain. Approaching the finish, the graininess of the paper is reduced to two thousand. If there is even the smallest rust in the place of chips and dents, it is carefully cleaned. And clean together with the factory paint. The fact is that corrosion can hide under the LCP and be invisible to the human eye. Therefore, clean up until the rust completely disappears.
Padding
To paint "Gazelle", made by myself, was successful, you need to prepare the soil. Please note: the product is applied only to bare metal. If the decision is made only to refresh the old paint, applying a new one on its surface, the soil should not be used.
Painting
Now go to the main stage. Often car enthusiasts ask the question: how many paint need to paint "Gazelle"? The answer will depend on the scale of the work. If you need to "pour" the whole "Gazelle" in the body of a minibus, it will take up to three liters of paint. If it is a single cabin (as on 3302 and its modifications), enough and a half liters plus the same amount of hardener. But it is better to buy with a margin, then in a panic not to run into the store. Let there be a small stock in the garage. They, for example, can tint scratches and chips in the future.
Precautionary measures
When working with degreasers and other solvents, protect hands and eyes. Use a respirator during painting. In this case, work should be done indoors. Any pollen will then be noticeable on the surface.
Conclusion
So, we found out how the painting "Gazelle" is made by our own hands. The budget of works is usually two times cheaper than professional painting. The main thing is to find a clean and dry room. All purchased equipment and consumables will be repaid at the first painting.
