What materials will be needed for work

Oil painting is a business that requires not only talent and skill, but also significant financial costs, because in order to write pictures, it takes a lot of everything. Here is a list of what you need to work:

1. Special oil paints in tubes.

2. Brushes of different sizes from natural bristles (flat) and a core brush (round) for the final finishing of your paintings.

3. Sketchbook.

4. Thinner for oil paints.

5. Coal for applying a preliminary pattern on the canvas or a simple soft pencil.

6. Subframe. You can order it in a framing workshop or buy it from a store.

7. Primed canvas.

Well, now you are almost fully armed and can begin the creative process. But first, listen to our little story about the properties of oil paints.

About oil paints more

A beautiful oil painting is breathtaking. But did you have to think about how much time the master conducts at the easel? Much depends on the quality of colors that the artist uses. Now it is difficult for us to imagine, but once the painters had no idea about oil paints. They were invented only in the XV century by the Flemish, and the secret of their manufacture for a long time was kept in the strictest secrecy. Imagine how lucky we are ?! In our time, these colors can be bought completely freely, and the most excellent quality!

You need to know that most of all, white color is consumed during operation. Therefore, if you buy paint in the set, then buy them a few more tubes of lead or titanium white. Also, you can not use ready-made shop kits, but collect your own palette. Just do not try to immediately buy as many flowers as possible. Take only basic: white, black paint (best to buy a burnt bone), ocher (yellow and red), cadmium red, or cinnabar, crab, yellow cadmium, chrome green, ultramarine and cobalt blue, brown mars. Such a set at first will be enough.

Oil painting for beginners. Stages of work

Elephant, as you know, is best in parts, so let's find out what stages will work on the oil painting.

1. First you need to decide on the nature, ie. Decide what exactly you will write: a still-life, a landscape, or maybe even a portrait?

2. Let's say you chose a still-life. As you know, it consists of several different objects, which must be carefully drawn, in addition, it is necessary to think carefully about the lighting. The play of light and shadow is a very important point, which in no way should we forget.

3. If the primed canvas and subframe exist for you so far separately, then you need to fix it and stretch it with a stapler for furniture.

4. Further on the canvas is an easy sketch of coal or pencil.

5. Now it's time to do the original podmalevok. Here your task is to sort out the basic colors, shadows and light in your picture. After this stage, your oil painting should dry a little. You can return to work on it the next day.

6. After the sketch has dried, you can proceed to further creativity. It is time to refine the contours and study the details.

7. At the final stage, the wide brushes should be laid aside and picked up with a round thin brush. She put on the picture the smallest finishing touches.

8. Well, the work is ready. After the picture has dried completely, you can cover it with a special lacquer.

With what it is better to start: with a portrait, a landscape or a still-life?

If you have never practiced oil painting on canvas before, then do not start to do this from the portrait, because this is the most difficult. And the landscape is not given to an inexperienced artist, especially if you want to write it from nature. Complexity is largely due to the fact that lighting on the landscape is constantly changing, the trees are moving from the wind, and there are too many distracting moments: buzzing mosquitoes and flies, pesky passers-by, etc.

Another thing - still life (dead nature): it was made of different objects, and it will stand as pretty as you need it. Just do not immediately try to imitate the "Little Dutch" and take on a complex composition consisting of many objects and colors. To begin with, it is better to be content with a modest still-life of two or three things.

How to use the palette

You've probably seen in different films how venerable painters beautifully hold a palette with one hand, and the other freely draw on canvas. You, too, can do this, for this there is a special hole in the palette: insert a thumb there, and the others support it from below - it's very convenient, try it!

Paints are squeezed out on the upper left edge of the dostochki, and the middle of it should remain free - on it you will mix colors. It is very important: after the painting session, do not forget to scrape off the unused paint, otherwise it will stick to the palette and will interfere with the subsequent work.

Oil painting technique

Training in oil painting can be inhibited due to the fact that a beginner artist can not understand the technique of such a drawing. Oil paints have a high density, and without experience it is difficult to achieve unnoticeable tone transitions. Look at the reproductions of old paintings - you will not see a trace of smears on them. If you are attracted by just such a manner, then you will need to first of all learn the so-called skidding technique. In this case, the paints are diluted with a solvent rather liquid, but on the surface of the canvas are applied almost dry brush. It's hard to explain in words, it's best to see how real artists do it.

Another technique that allows you to achieve beautiful effects in painting - feathering paint brush on the canvas. At the same time, one color fuses into the other. And, of course, you do not have to try to write without smears. Perhaps, you want to take as an example the imitation of the paintings of Van Gogh ...

The last parting words to the beginning artist

Well, that's the end of our little story about oil painting. The master class turned out to be small, but very informative. Now it will only depend on you how soon you will be able to please your loved ones with beautiful works. Begin to create as quickly as possible and do not be afraid of anything. We wish you creative success!
