Vasilisa Rimskaya (April 28)

Two close friends, Vasilisa and Anastasia, lived in Rome in the I century. During one of the sermons of the apostles Peter and Paul, they accepted Christianity and did not betray their faith until death.

From 54 to 68, Emperor Nero reigned in Rome . He conducted severe persecutions against Christians, tortured them to renounce their faith, and in case of disobedience - executed martyrs. Vasilisa and Anastasia buried the bodies of the dead according to the Christian canons. For this the emperor ordered to imprison them in prison. Soon Vasilisa and Anastasia were tortured for their faith. But they were able to withstand all the suffering and kept faith in Jesus Christ. For this in 68, the women were beheaded.

The feast day of the martyrs Vasilisa and Anastasia is celebrated on April 28. To worship their relics is still possible today in the Church of Our Lady of the Patient, which is in Rome.

Vasilisa of Egypt (January 21)

The holy martyrs Julian and Vasilisa were from the Egyptian Antinous year. They both came from noble, wealthy families, and at the insistence of their parents soon became a husband and wife.

Despite this, Iulian and Vasilisa remained deeply religious people. They completely dedicated themselves to the Lord, did not enter into a close relationship with each other and remained innocent. After the death of the parents, Julian and Vasilisa founded the male and female monasteries and became their abbots, adopting monasticism.

In the III century, during the reign of Emperor Diocletian, the believing spouses were seized and imprisoned in a dungeon. They several times indulged in cruel torture, but could endure all the suffering. Julian even managed to convert the son of his tormentor Kelsey and his wife Marionly to Christianity, as well as several other pagans. Soon Julian, Vasilisa and other martyrs took death by the sword.

The names of Vasilisa are celebrated on January 21. On this day the church also recalls Julian, Kelsey, Marionilla and other martyrs who were truncated by the sword in 313.

The Martyr Vasilisa: the name day of the Orthodox on September 16

During the reign of Emperor Diocletian in Rome, terrible persecution of Christians was conducted. But most innocent blood was spilled in the ancient city of Nicomedia (Nicomedia). Only in one month more than 17 thousand Christians were slaughtered here. He did not pardon the torturer either adults or children.

Suffered in Nicomedia and nine-year-old Vasilisa. At the trial it was brought to the hegemon Alexander, who was ruling at that time in the city. He offered Vasilisa to renounce his faith in the Lord, but the girl remained adamant. She even entered into a dispute with Alexander and spoke of Jesus Christ as if she were not a child, but an adult.

Vasilisa was tortured several times. First, she was beaten on the face, then by rods all over her body, and when she was completely covered with ulcers, the girl was hung upside down with her legs and a bonfire under her body. But neither fire nor fierce beasts could kill Vasilisa. Then the ruler of Nicomedia fell at her feet and began to repent. After that, he believed in the Lord, and was baptized.

Soon the Hedemon Alexander died, and Vasilisa left the city. One day she felt thirsty, stood on a rock and asked the Lord for water. At the same moment a fountain began to beat from the stone. Vasilisa drank some water and immediately died. Near this stone, she was buried by the body that found her bishop.

The names of Vasilisa of Nicomedia are celebrated on September 16. On this day the martyr gave her innocent soul to God.

Name day of Vasilisa according to the church calendar March 23, April 29

During the reign of Emperor Decius (around 251-258), severe persecution of Christians continued. They covered all the ancient cities, including Corinth. Here the mission for the extermination of Christians was entrusted to the military commander Jason.

The torturer was informed that in the desert not far from the city there is a Christian Kondrat, who comes to listen to hundreds of people. Among them was the young Vasilisa. For the faith in the Lord, Kondrat and his disciples were martyred. At first they were given to be eaten by wild beasts, but they did not touch the believers. Then they were cut with a sword.

The names of Vasilisa and the other martyrs of Corinth are celebrated on March 23 and April 29. On this day, the church remembers their names.
