The pharmacological group, which includes the drug under consideration, is called - antidiarrhoeal agents, that is, funds for diarrhea of various etiologies.

The drug also has other names: "Lopeiumum", "Superilop", "Imodium", "Neo-Enteroseptol" and others. The active substance is the same in all, and it is synonymous with Loperamide. Indications for treatment with the drug are due to its properties. Its use contributes to the slowing of intestinal peristalsis (rhythmic contractions of the musculature of the organ).

At the same time, the passage of intestinal contents increases, the tone of the anal sphincter rises, and retention of fecal matter occurs. The urge to defecate after using this remedy is less common. You can say that in most cases, the drug "Loperamide" is best for fighting diarrhea. Indications include and treatment of diarrhea of emotional and allergic genesis, radiation genesis, as well as due to a changed mode of food intake and its quality.

The drug "Loperamide" during pregnancy is prescribed exclusively in those cases in which there is no threat to the fetus. In the first trimester is not appointed at all. Although there were no serious drug studies among pregnant women for taking Loperamide medication, indications for lactation treatment include resolving the issue of stopping breastfeeding while taking this medication.

There are contraindications to this medicine. As with any medicine, such a contraindication, first of all, is hypersensitivity. Also, it is contraindicated for intestinal obstruction, ulcerative colitis in the acute stage, the first trimester of pregnancy, liver failure, gastrointestinal infections and for children younger than two years.

There are some features when using the drug "Loperamide". The application requires consideration of the fact that the treatment of diarrhea also implies the replenishment of fluid loss. Also during the treatment of diarrhea with this medicine, care should be taken by drivers of transport, and representatives of other professions that require a speed of reaction and concentration of attention. When developing during the treatment of the drug constipation or bloating, they should stop treatment.

Patients with liver dysfunctions in the treatment of this drug should be observed for toxic pathologies of the central nervous system. It is not recommended to prescribe medication in capsules to children under the age of five. How to apply the drug "Loperamide". Indication and dosage. Capsules are taken orally without chewing. They wash themselves with water. You can also take pills, but for a faster effect, the tablet can be held in the tongue and after loosening, swallow it together with saliva. Water does not drink the medicine. In cases of acute diarrhea, adults are prescribed 4 mg - the initial dose. Subsequently, take 2 mg after each liquid stool (diarrhea). The daily dose of the drug should not exceed 16 mg.

For children over the age of five, with acute diarrhea, the initial dose is 2 mg, and after each bowel movement (liquid stool) also 2 mg. The daily dose at the same time - 8 mg. At the age of up to five years, the drug is prescribed to children in solution, which is taken through the mouth at a rate of 5 ml per 10 kg of body weight. After the chair is normalized, the medicine is canceled for both children and adults.
