Left-sided hemiparesis

Hemiparesis is the weakening or incomplete paralysis of one side of the body. This disease occurs as a result of damage to the cortical neurons of the brain. There is a right-sided and left-side hemiparesis, sometimes there is a lower and upper hemiparesis, in which only one limb suffers. For a more complete characterization of the disease, the expanded notation of paresis is used: "paraparesis" - the legs or hands are paralyzed on one side, and "tetraparesis" - all four limbs are paralyzed. The form of this disease, in which the same limbs are affected (mostly hands), is called spastic hemiparesis.

Depending on the localization of the lesion, the symptoms of the damage to the cerebral cortex will be different. The main symptoms are: speech disorders, agnosia, the presence of cognitive and cortical disorders, apraxia, sensitivity disorders, and the periodic occurrence of epileptic seizures.

If right-sided or left-sided hemiparesis applies only to the muscles of the face, hands or feet without any other symptoms, this indicates the presence of separate small lesions in the brain stem, in the back of the inner capsule, or in the upper section of the variolium bridge. Hemiparesis in children can be caused by various disorders in the structure of the brain, with congenital anomalies in the development of the brain and spinal cord, spine and head injuries. In addition, paresis can be caused by jamming of nerve endings located in the spine, atrophy of the peripheral nerves, impaired brain activity. Usually, when there are violations of the brain activity, paresis of the limbs occur on the opposite side of the body, i.e. With violations in the left hemisphere there is paresis of the right limbs and vice versa.

Treatment of hemiparesis of any type, in the first place, should begin with the elimination of the cause that triggered their occurrence, since without the systemic treatment of the main disease completely remove the phenomenon of paresis and achieve restoration of normal innervation of the affected limbs is impossible.

Most often, this disease occurs in people who have any developmental abnormalities. In this case, right-sided and left-sided hemiparesis can develop as a result of a pathological process characterized by epileptic seizures, and has become the cause of the development of such pathologies as an abscess or a brain tumor and arteriovenous aneurysm.

In the presence of this disease, long-lasting headaches can occur, which are acute during a long time (weeks and even months). In this case, headaches can have different localization. Also, the signs of this disease include: general fatigue, fever, sharp weight loss, lack of appetite and joint pain. However, there is no standard, strictly limited set of symptoms, since they depend on many factors, including the age of the patient.

Left-sided hemiparesis can be congenital and manifest immediately after birth. To increase the chances of recovery, treatment must begin immediately. After the final diagnosis, the child is prescribed a course of treatment, which must be strictly adhered to. In addition to drug treatment is mandatory special course of gymnastics. Classes should continue in the home, as there is a special set of exercises that you need to perform daily and carry the child to the hospital will be too problematic and troublesome.

With timely, competent treatment and persistence in most cases, this pathology can be completely eliminated. There are a lot of examples when having been born with this pathology, the child looks almost healthy to the first class, and after reaching adolescence, the disease recedes altogether.
