Kemerovo: population, employment, today's demographic situation

The center of the coal mining and chemical industry of the Russian Federation is rightly considered to be the city of Kemerovo. The population of the city is characterized by the same feature as most of the inhabitants of Siberia - industriousness. Kemerovo is one of the largest settlements of this region. The city is the administrative center of its region, the heart of Kuzbass. This name was assigned to the settlement due to the world's largest coal basin - Kuznetsky.

History of occurrence

It was from the inhabitants that the name of the settlement - Kemerovo - occurred. The population was called Shorians or Kuznetsk Tatars at that time. And in the language native to the inhabitants, the word kemer was used to denote a slope or a mountain.

The first villages appeared on this place in the seventeenth century. Verkhotom jail, whose purpose was to protect the state from the raids of Kalmyks and Kirghiz, was in fact the first settlement that arose in the territory of modern Kemerovo. Soon the prison changed its direction and became one of the places of development of the agricultural economy. The population of Kemerovo at that time was represented mainly by peasants.

The coal boom

A great revival in the settlement occurred after the discovery of the Shcheglovsky coal deposit. Then, according to the order of Anna Ioanovna, the Siberian route was laid . In the developed area, new villages were emerging. People worked in the sphere of trade, were engaged in cartage and janitorialism. The workers of the mines and factories were exiles and convicts who were driven along the road.

To increase production capacity, more natural resources were required. More and more new fields were actively developed. The construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway began. This event marked the beginning of industrial development of the Kuzbass. There were new working settlements, which eventually turned into large cities.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Kemerovo mine became the property of the Joint Stock Company Kopikuz. The change of ownership caused a large influx of labor. These were local peasants, and visitors from various provinces. A special category of workers was represented by prisoners of war.

The breakthrough in industry occurred with the advent of Soviet power. To actively develop the coal and metallurgical industry, the government decides to establish an industrial colony in Kemerovo. The population increased sharply, which was facilitated by the influx of visitors from abroad. Engineers and architects of many countries in Europe and America wanted to work on the world's only industrial colony. Workers arriving in the AIC worked on the development of coal deposits and the development of infrastructure. They built roads, built houses, schools, hospitals.

In 1924, the city became a district center, and eight years later received its modern name. Shcheglovsk was renamed to Kemerovo.

War time

With the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, most of the townspeople went to the front. But the mining enterprises continued to fully supply not only the army, but also the country with fuel. In the workplace, men were replaced by women and adolescents. This again shows that the entire population of the city of Kemerovo, from small to large, is very hardworking.

At the height of the war the city received the status of a regional center. The fifth part of the settlements of the Novosibirsk region came under the control of Kemerovo. This development of events is not surprising because the residents of Kemerovo accounted for more than forty percent of the total population of the Novosibirsk region. In addition, the city was already an administrative center, had a powerful industrial potential.

In the postwar years the settlement was intensively rebuilt. High-rise buildings appeared. The number of scientific, technical and cultural institutions increased. The industrial complex has developed steadily.

Variants of employment

The population of Kemerovo is mainly a working class. So, in the city there are always vacancies for chemists, engineers and specialists of any other technical professions. Active development of the service sector influenced the emergence of vacancies in this industry: it is mainly about the sphere of trade.

The best options for finding a job in Kemerovo are:

  1. The most prestigious work is in the holding of the Siberian Business Union. The organization conducts business in many industries - from the production of alcoholic beverages to the coal mining industry.
  2. Vacancies are full of "Khimprom" association. The company is engaged in the production of organic and inorganic chemicals. From the proposed employment options to the company, not only specialists of a narrow profile are required, but also, for example, programmers or cooks.
  3. Open joint-stock company KOKS, specializing in the production of pig iron, can be an excellent start for a future career. They begin here with working professions, but wages and prospects justify hard work.

Demographic situation

Until recently, the largest number of residents in the region was recorded not at all in Kemerovo. The population prevailed in Novokuznetsk. This is due to the fact that in the days of the Soviet Union the management of enterprises preferred to work away from the authorities. And since the enterprises are more difficult to transfer, all the ruling structures settled in Kemerovo.

But in the second place in the region the city was until 2015. Uncharacteristic for Russia, demographic growth has contributed to the fact that the population of Kemerovo has become almost 552 thousand people, which is almost nine hundred residents more than in Novokuznetsk. This trend indicates a stable development of the city.
