Jazz-funk as a new dance direction

Jazz Funk is a new dance direction filled with life, energy and emotions. It's not just certain movements: jazz-funk collects a lot of directions in itself. This is the beauty of this style. The ability to combine different dance directions, take elements of different styles, combine them, creating a new, unique dance - that's what attracts dancers all over the world. There are no limits to fantasy, you can do what you want, dance, how you want, in general, create, not paying attention to the norms and rules established in other dance directions. Day after day, jazz-funk is gaining momentum. This young style literally a couple of years ago was completely unknown: now they speak about it, write it, dance it.

What styles are there in jazz funk?

Jazz-funk - a dance that combines such directions as:

  • Waiting (waacking) - continuous movement, swinging hands;
  • Strip-plastic (strip dance) - soft, plastic, sexual movements;
  • Hip-hop (hip-hop) - a mixture of positive, fervor, energy;
  • Variety choreography - dance show; Active, role movements;
  • Jazz choreography - improvisation, acrobatic sketches.

About the history of jazz-funk

This direction arose not so long ago: just a couple of decades ago in the United States of America the famous American choreographer Bobby Newbury, who at that time worked with American pop stars, decided to combine different styles into one original style. So there was a new, in no way like the direction of the dance, combining both the harsh, active elements of jazz and hip-hop, and the gentle, smooth movements of strip-plastics and choreography.

This audacious, sometimes provocative, incredibly emotional, mannered and very beautiful style has appeared in the national stage: today you can see hundreds of clips of Russian artists in which this direction is present. That's why in our days an outrageous, nothing like jazz-funk - this is one of the most popular dance trends, which want to train thousands of girls and young people.

The advantages of jazz-funk

A distinctive feature of this style is that jazz-funk is an impulsive dance, filled with "jerks" of the body, expressive and very emotional, one might even say, sexual performance. A person who owns the jazz-funk art, will be able to light any dance floor. In addition, people dancing in this direction assure that they never received more pleasure from dance and music.

Naturally, when mastering this style, the beginner will have to sweat: here you need a good physical preparation. However, after a while, the frantic tempo of the dance, as well as all complex movements and acrobatic elements, seem even pleasant to the beginner. Hence the conclusion that no minuses can block all the advantages of this dance direction.

Key Movements

The main element of jazz-funk is an impulse, a "push", an "explosion" that comes from within - from the hips, shoulders, chest. It is this "push" that causes the body to "recline" to the side, and these movements are absolutely impossible to predict. Each breath in the dance ends with a "point", after which the impulse manifests itself again. To the key movements of this direction are various in their execution waves (sharp, broken or soft, smooth). In addition to the waves performed by the hands, jazz-funk is popular with the movement of the feet called "step-step" (steps from side to side) and "slide" (sliding).

Under what music do they dance?

Many newcomers are asking themselves: "Under what music are jazz-funk dancing?" Music, in fact, can be different: it will be pleasant for beginners to discover that jazz-funk can be danced to your favorite hits. Most often in such areas as pop, jazz and club music. In general, this is a kind of club mix. In order to at least roughly represent the rhythm of music or jazz-funk songs, it is enough to listen to popular performers (for example, Mary Jane).

The difference between jazz and funk from hip-hop

In hip-hop, you can see big steps, sweeping movements with your hands, and in jazz-funk, all movements are small, smooth and beautifully replacing each other. In addition, in hop-hop, the original setting of the body implies a soft, slightly bent back. Jazz-funk also implies a direct, choreographed setting of the body.

Each performer eventually has its own "chips" - movements that are the "calling card" of this artist at any dance event. Each newcomer will also eventually acquire his style of performance: someone will go to hip-hop, someone will focus on the soft, smooth movements of strip-plastics, and someone will understand that he likes power choreography and acrobatic sketches. The choice is only for the performer. Here you can say one thing: in the world there are no two people who dance equally in the style of jazz-funk, since this direction was created precisely with the goal of "discovering the potential" of the beginner.
