Is laziness a disease or a trait of character?

Who has never experienced this feeling, when you do not want anything at all? Or there is no desire to undertake a very specific task, and in fact, completely without cause - because laziness? Perhaps there is no such person. Chronic whether this phenomenon, or temporary, but it has a place to be. We need to accept this as a fact. Or?..

How to determine laziness?

There are several interpretations of the "lazy" word.

Laziness is a reluctance to do work and generally do something.

Laziness is dislike for work in principle.

Laziness is a synonym for the word "reluctance", is used in the sense of "I'm lazy" (the verb in the infinitive).

All of the above - an appeal to the old good explanatory dictionary, which gives definitions, but, to some extent, does not explain much. In the end, all the same it becomes unclear: is laziness - this feeling? Or sickness? Or a character trait?

There are also several opinions on this matter.

In Christianity

In the beginning there was a word. And then, word for word, there was a book. If, of course, believe in Christian dogma. But even if you do not believe, for general development, knowing will not hurt. The Bible, as you know, says very clearly that laziness is a sin. Even one of the deadly sins, the seventh, to be more precise (except for it: lust, gluttony, greed, envy, anger, pride). The synonym of laziness in this case is boredom or despondency. Christianity regards it as a consequence of idleness, which causes laziness of the soul and corrupts it. Sinfulness consists in excessive employment by oneself, by their experiences and feelings.

It is interesting that laziness and the other six sins are densely included in the culture and are used in works of art as the basis for a story or a riddle. Many artists drew a series of paintings, showing their vision of this phenomenon.

This once again proves how relevant this topic is at the moment.

In Islam

This religion also considers laziness and idleness as a sin. The explanation of this in Islam is very similar to the Christian one. Laziness is a sin, because it is a sign of a weak iman, because a person concentrates on himself, and his faith fades.

but on the other hand

Laziness can be described as an inactivity of body and spirit. Considering the problem on this side, it is easy to understand why laziness is bad. Inactivity is sinful, because sometimes it brings much more trouble than perfect deeds. Do not help when help was required, do not make efforts when they were important ... Because of what is happening? Is it a natural characteristic?

Causes

Why is a person lazy? If we take as a basis the concept of laziness, as inaction, and not idleness, one can come to the conclusion that most imperfect acts remained so, because they did not dare. Did not want to risk or just afraid. Then laziness is fear.

However, such a definition is not suitable for idleness - causeless laziness, not directed as a specific object of action. At least so it seems at first.

And what if it does not work out?

There is such an utterance: "Laziness is fear, stretched in time." Fear of what? Fear of acting. Fear of pain, to some extent - criticism. Fear of what will not work. When this fear becomes something self-evident, it expands in time, begins to treat every possible action.

Fear of responsibility

Some psychologists define laziness as a lack of motivation, resulting from fear of responsibility. Others believe that this is the consequence of pressure from childhood, which is embedded in the subconscious. Excessive curiosity is rarely encouraged, so that the grown child himself does not allow himself this "unnecessary" activity.

Fatigue

In general, fatigue is called laziness by people surrounding "idler". Sometimes the decline of strength occurs not only on the physical, but also on the moral level, which is much less noticeable for fans to criticize others' actions, and in a specific example - inaction. If this attitude continues, a person starts to consider himself lazy, and either tortures himself even more, or loses any motivation at all.

Violence

Do not force yourself. This is one of the most useful tips that can be given to a loved one. Or to myself.

Sometimes the subconscious knows best what each individual needs. And if something frankly does not want, then it's definitely not what you need. The organism feels that this occupation is useless, it is pointless for one who tries to overpower him. This reason is absolutely correct. So it is important to learn to trust yourself.

Of course, she also has pitfalls. After all, it is not the only explanation of human laziness. Therefore, it is just as important to learn to distinguish when something is not really needed, but something is needed, but it will be necessary to develop a motivation for this.

More harm than good?

According to numerous statements, laziness is a vice. Moreover, laziness is the mother of all vices.

Lazy is easier to steal than to earn. The lazy man will weep better, so that he regrets what he will do himself. The loafer is more likely to send everything to the barriers than see the opportunity and chance. The lover of idleness will rather complain about the unfavorability of fortune than on the insufficiently applied efforts.

Consequently, a lazy person becomes greedy, envious, evil. One sin entails the rest. Vicious effect of dominoes.

Or more good than harm?

Laziness is a feeling of nothingness. It is in the interests of a lazy person to ease his fate. Creative mind does not always choose a bad path. Or maybe he is just too proud to follow the already traversed easy ways.

Man was too lazy to walk - and he came up with a wheel. Then a bicycle, a car, an airplane.

The man did not want to lift the weights himself, and soon a new miracle came to the world: a crane.

Man was reluctant himself to make calculations - and he invented a computer. Now everyone uses a computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone. Despite the fact that it is because of these technical novelties that most of humanity has become lazy, they prove the dominance of reason and its possibilities. And whether a person manages a computer, or a computer to them, is the choice of each particular man / woman / child.

All these examples can be correlated with the already established rule: laziness is the engine of progress. The underwater stone of this statement is if it is also used as an excuse for its idleness. After all, in order to progress, the mind must, on the contrary, work. "The soul must work day and night, and day and night."

Procrastination: a disease, an excuse or just a beautiful word?

While people are trying to solve a dilemma: laziness is good or bad, in psychology, another term has appeared that introduces certain amendments into their discussions.

What is procrastination? And does it mean that laziness is a disease?

Psychologists define this wonderful word, as an eternal postponement of cases "for later". Make it tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, or never. Never suit you?

The problem of this scourge of the modern world is that procrastination is deified: in social networks people write about eternal idleness and enjoy themselves.

What is the difference from laziness?

Briefly, we can say that laziness is a deferred action. Lazy, done, did not let anyone down.

Prokrastination is inherent in the subconscious as a constant, recursive phenomenon. Postponed, then postponed, and more ...

Postponed inveterate procrastinators not only business, but also decisions - from small to important, vital. The saddest thing is that if, in the end, hands reach all this heap, all of them are done as before. The result is equal to the applied effort.

The problem, as usual, remains unnoticed. A beautiful word becomes an excuse. "This is me, love me." But procrastination is not a character trait, it is not a description of the person and not even a way of thinking, but a task that requires solution, an obstacle that needs to be overcome and move on. "Now or never" much more constructively "then and, most likely, never."

How to get rid?

  • It is very important to be able to distribute your time. Leave a little and for rest, laziness, doing nothing, after all, for yourself. As it was already considered earlier, sometimes fatigue leads to the fact that a person is sitting in a stupor - his body is loud, he is shouting to stop, but he is torturing himself, and most importantly, all the same, to no avail.
  • The plan for the day is an excellent way of self-control. Well, if it is an intermediate stage, after all, it is ultimately necessary to learn unconscious control, without paperwork and clues. But to start with, the simplest list on white lined paper is the best you can think of. The plan should take into account all: not only important things (try for one day to implement a week plan - a silly undertaking), but everyday trivia and, of course, respite. Separate each item for a sufficient amount of time. Follow the plan clearly.
  • Many people mistakenly advise putting the most tight deadlines. It is not right. It is right to think rationally: for how long you are actually able to perform a task.
  • In addition, the focus on results is important. There is a very fine line between pessimism and optimism: to put it on to the full, so that everything is done in the best possible way, and at the same time provide for the possibility of the situation if it was not planned.
  • The development of motivation is an important factor. It is usually recommended to promise yourself a reward. You need to think more globally: to understand that the result is already a huge reward. Start proud of yourself, your achievements, even at first small. After all, what can boast the one who is lazy in priority? The antonym to this word, "diligence," is much appreciated.

Finally

Like almost everything in the world, laziness can be perceived in different ways. This is not good or bad. This means to achieve the desired result. But if they do not use it, it will tighten itself, like a swamp, in the way of yearning and boredom. Is it dangerous if you already know how to deal with it?
