Immobilizers - what is it? Immobilizer block. Where is the immobilizer

Effective protection of the car from theft can be ensured by the presence of several devices having different purposes, while they are united by one concept - the security complex. One of the important elements in this case are immobilizers. What this is, will become clear from the following description.

Appointment

The car security complex includes mechanical means of protection, signaling, a regular immobilizer and means for alerting the owner of the car. Most often, the protective functions are assumed by the alarm system. However, not the last role in all this is assigned to the immobilizer. If you want to provide the most reliable protection against theft, then it is necessary to install several security devices, independent of each other.

So, let's consider immobilizers. What kind of apparatus, it becomes clear, if you determine their principle of operation. The ability to activate and deactivate such a device must be only one person, that is, the owner of the car. For these purposes, the immobilizer key is used. There are models that support manual code entry, but their prevalence is not so great. The electronic code key is made in the form of a chip, during the manufacture of which it was introduced a special cipher, which is long enough for an attacker to not be able to pick it up in a short period of time. The chip is in a convenient casing. Starting the engine of the machine will be possible only if the owner inserts the device into a special slot to deactivate the immobilizer. If the system works with a manual key entry, then it can be disabled only after entering the character sequence specified by the owner.

Principle of operation

Answering the question: "Immobilizers - what is this?", It is worth noting that the principle of their work has not changed in recent years. Here we are talking about the presence of a gap in the electrical circuits vital for the engine, and the key that it has is capable of eliminating this gap. However, in recent years, electronics has stepped forward a lot, which made it possible to make certain corrections to the operation of the device.

So, we continue to understand with such concept, as immobilizers. What this, will become more understandable if you consider their device. Today, they have an electronic unit through which to adjust and control the functions of the device. With the help of a microprocessor, the key is authenticated, after which the necessary circuits are closed. In addition, firms engaged in the production of immobilizers, in addition offer a number of devices that increase the reliability of their work. These may be closing relays and fuel solenoid valves.

What is it created for?

Immobilizer is designed to prevent theft, even if the car has already been opened. At the break point of the electric circuit of the motor, a closing relay is installed, so the microprocessor checks the authenticity of the key, and then does not connect the circuits independently, but only sends the signal to the required electromagnetic switches. Only after that they are included in the closed mode. The immobilizer becomes even more reliable only thanks to the use of such relays.

If we talk about the fuel valve, it simply closes the fuel line. It is closed in a free state, therefore, petrol does not enter the vehicle's supply system from the tank. But after the microprocessor accepts the correct password, the microchip sends a signal to the valve. When it is received, the fuel line opens. Some immobilizers (which we have already determined) can be connected to different sensors, which makes them analogous to signaling. For certain models, it is possible to control through the paging system.

Using the standard immobilizer unit and the various additional devices described above, it is possible to form a whole security complex for the car.

Types of tools

On the market are models that differ in design features that affect not only functionality, but also determine the reliability of the entire system.

Devices requiring contact

Contact immobilizers assume control by means of a key inserted into the borehole or brought to the mating part of the lock. However, such systems are almost not used. They are characterized by a rather important drawback - the attacker knows in advance where they are located.

Contact immobilizer involves entering a special code via the keyswitch. The number of combinations of keys is such that it is impossible to select a cipher by scanning various sequences. The number of combinations in such systems is 10 to the degree corresponding to the number of keys for the code set.

Not requiring contact

Non-contact immobilizers work by the fact that the system receiving antenna is installed on the interior trim, and the control process is carried out by means of a card or key fob. This type is the most common. The fact that it is not clear where the immobilizer is located allows to provide more reliable protection in comparison with the rest. However, there are more advanced solutions.

Non-contact immobilizers with a small radius are characterized by the fact that the receiving antenna works at a distance of no more than 10 centimeters. Landing in the car is accompanied by a marking to the hidden device, which allows you to remove the system from the guard by unblocking all the circuits. If the criminal sees how the driver turns out to disable the immobilizer, where he brings the key, he will already understand that the car uses a certain protection. It is this shortage of systems with a small radius of action that is fundamental. If the attacker sees where the label needs to be placed, then he understands where the receiving antenna is located. That's why the car needs to be disarmed as inconspicuously as possible.

Immobilizers, "protecting in motion", allow the engine to start and move away, but then block all systems and the car stalls. Such systems are very relevant in case of robbery, when the driver is thrown out of the car, they take away keys and documents. However, the proper storage of the transponder allows it to stay with the owner. When the hijacker separates a certain distance from the car owner, the engine stalls.

How to stop an already stolen car?

This is also useful immobilizers. What does it mean? The matter is that in their design there is a special type of blocking. Blocked circuits are not broken if the engine is not wound. They will be opened only during his work. Immobilizers are equipped with built-in relays for breaking circuits (usually 3 pieces).

Recently, micro-devices have been used as special switches controlled by the central unit through high-frequency signals and automotive wiring. They are difficult to find and neutralize, since to them the wires from the central unit do not go. Such a relay does not differ from the usual car. Sometimes it is built into a safety block instead of a regular one, and it is almost impossible to distinguish them. Some systems can be equipped with a dozen such immobilizers, that is, it will take quite a long time to search for them.

Such devices should nevertheless be used as additions to signaling, rather than replacement. The meaning of their installation lies in the secrecy and imperceptibility for other people, and only an immobilizer can do it. "Kalina" and other models of otchetestvennyh cars have long been protected from penetration into the cabin is such devices.

How to disable?

Sometimes it happens that the owner of the car is required to disable the immobilizer - in the event of a malfunction or an obstacle to the operation of the installed alarm, or for other reasons. This is best done in a specialized workshop, since independent intervention often becomes a source of additional problems - the car will stop starting.

Recommendations for use

- it is necessary to have not one key of the immobilizer, but at least two: one must be with you, and the second at home, in case of an unforeseen situation;

- the electronic device should not be hung in the general keychain;

- if you lose the key, you need to recode the system as quickly as possible;

- install an immobilizer (VAZ in you or another car - not the essence) is required only from authorized dealers;

- To recognize a transponder at the greatest possible distance, it is necessary to orient it in relation to the plane of the antenna in parallel.

If non-standard installation schemes are used, it can be ensured that the vehicle is protected reliably.
