Ibiza Airport: the island's air gateway

Without exaggeration, we can say that Ibiza is a small island that is very popular. And all categories of tourists go there: noisy and not very rich young people, VIP clients, families with children and fans of a quiet, measured rest. Here reigns the full international: the British, the Germans, the French, of course - the Spaniards, and more recently the share of our compatriots has also increased. All of them are attracted by Ibiza. Prices, especially in the season, "bite", but it does not deter travelers. After all, at the resorts they expect comfort by European standards.

First impression of the island

Before arriving at their resorts (lovers of nightlife - in the eponymous capital of the island and the city of San Anthony, adherents of a quiet rest - on the north coast, and money-bags - in San Miguel), all tourists arrive at the airport of Ibiza. It bears the name of San Jose (St. Joseph) and is an air gateway not only for the inhabitants of Ibiza, but also for the neighboring islet of Formentera. It is the airport that creates the first impression of what awaits you on the coast.

Location, and how to get to the place of rest

Unlike the big European capitals, where planes land fifty kilometers from the city, a small island touches with its compactness. Having survived the flight to Ibiza, passengers will not have to spend a few more hours to get to their resort. San Jose Airport is located just seven kilometers south of the island's capital. The shuttle bus number 10 runs to the city center. It will cost you 3,2 Є. In the summer months and in September, you can take the bus without a transfer to the city of San Antonio - this is route number 9. The taxi to Ibiza operates according to two tariffs. On weekdays from seven in the morning until ten in the evening, landing in a car will cost 3.25 Є plus a road - 0.98 euro per kilometer. In the rest of the time, you will have a payment for the journey of 1.2 Є per km. If you want to drive to the airport of Ibiza directly to the entrance to the terminal, add to the total of two more euros for a paid parking.

History

During the civil war, the Balearic Islands needed military airfields. Therefore, such a concrete strip was laid on Ibiza. After the war, in 1949, a small building was built to accommodate ordinary passengers. But two years later Franco forbade the use of the airport of Ibiza for peaceful purposes and left it to the military base. However, the growing demand for the resorts of the island was stronger than the dictator's militaristic plans. Already in 1958, the airport earned again. Now it takes up to five million passengers a year. And this flow is extremely heterogeneous. In a season when charter flights here land, services of the unique terminal can be overloaded.

Services at the airport

As elsewhere in Europe, certain standards operate here. The comfort of passengers and meeting the airport of Ibiza provides for 100%. There are parking spaces (including for the disabled). All buttons in the elevators are duplicated with a font for the blind. The clinic works around the clock. For those leaving Spain, duty free shops offer their products at low prices. Bars, cafes and restaurants provide an opportunity to refresh themselves before the flight. You can exchange currency and rent a car without leaving the airport building.
