Hydrocephalus in the child: symptoms of the disease

Absolutely every person in the cavity of the skull has a small amount of fluid. It constantly flushes the brain and removes dead cells. This liquid is called a liquor - it is constantly being developed and renewed. But if the cerebrospinal fluid is released more, and the absorption process is disturbed, it accumulates in the cranial cavity, thereby increasing the intracranial pressure. Excess fluid presses on the brain, which is accompanied by severe headaches. Most often this syndrome manifests itself in children at an early age. Hydrocephalus in the child (or hydrocephalus of the brain) is accompanied by mental and physical retardation in development, and often ends in a fatal outcome.

The success of treating this syndrome directly depends on the severity of the course. If the disease was diagnosed at an early stage, then the chances of a full recovery are quite large. Hydrocephalus in children, the symptoms of which depend on the age of the patient, is treated for a long time. The child should be constantly under the supervision of doctors. But in order to diagnose the disease in time, it is necessary to know what are the manifestations of this syndrome.

Hydrocephalus in a child up to a year is revealed in the development delay. Parents should be wary of the causeless crying of the baby, a bad dream at night, constant regurgitation, throwing back the head in a dream. In addition, he has symptoms of increased muscle tone: the kid constantly holds the knobs in the cams, leans with legs with a crosshair or on the socks, there is no stepping reflex. Hydrocephalus in a child is characterized by a delay in mental and motor development.

The disease can develop and later in life. In preschool children, this syndrome manifests itself particularly clearly: the child is prone to aggressiveness and hysterical manifestations, he is hyperactive. Often there is a delay in psychological development, a violation of diction is revealed, it is difficult for a child to build sentences, as his vocabulary is very poor. The baby has frequent colds, stuttering and strabismus.

Sometimes, for a number of reasons, hydrocephalus in a child can develop in adolescence. In this case, there will be nasal bleeding. The child will complain of persistent severe headaches, reduced concentration and poor memory. Neurotic and disinhibited. A teenager lags behind his peers in school, he does not learn much of the material, very slowly performs even light tasks, makes many mistakes. He complains that his hands get tired quickly and the handwriting deteriorates. Such a child reads slowly and can not retell what has just been read. It is difficult for him to compose a story correctly, to speak with complex sentences.

Regardless of what form is detected (internal, external or mixed hydrocephalus), children with this syndrome will have an increase in the volume of the head, in development it will lag behind. But this disease is not a verdict! To date, this syndrome is being treated. The main thing is to believe in success and not to give up!
