How to sew a belt to a skirt quickly and simply

A simple skirt can sew any girl to herself. The most difficult stage in this process can be the treatment of the belt on the skirt. But in fact it will be much easier than it seems.

Before you sew the belt to the skirt, it must be cut. It can be done in different ways. The simplest variant is to cut an ordinary rectangle, the length of which is equal to the length of the upper cut of the skirt, taking into account the allowances for the fastener and seams, and the width is double the width of the belt plus two centimeters.

So, we cut out the belt. For example, the length of the top cut is 70 cm, then our size will be 70 + 3 + 2 = 75 cm, where 2 cm, the seams allowance for short cuts, 3 cm - the protruding end of the belt, to which the button will be sewn. The width is similar. Let's say that our belt's parameter is 4 cm, then the total width of the part is 4 X 2 + 2 = 10 cm, where 2 cm is the allowance for the seam of the joint with the skirt.

Before you sew the belt to the skirt, you need to not only cut it, but also strengthen it with a gasket. This requires flizelin or dublerin, suitable for tissue thickness. For dark materials you need to buy a black or gray gasket, for light materials - white. We take out the same rectangle from the doublet as well as from the fabric. Now it needs to be glued to the material. To do this, we apply the gasket with the adhesive side to the underside of the belt blank, from the top we cover with a wet presser and glue the doublerin with an iron. In this case, you do not need to drive on the fabric, but simply put the iron and hold it for a few seconds, then move on. When the gasket is glued, it must be dried in a horizontal position (if you start work immediately, the doublerin can get unstuck), so it is advisable to prepare the belt in advance so that at the right moment it is already at hand.

Before sewing the belt to the skirt, we sweep it to the upper cut, starting from the side seam, into which the zipper is sewn. We start to swipe from the front half, folding the skirt and belt with the faces, while from the edge of the belt we retreat one centimeter (allowance for the seam along the short cut). Having swept the belt along the entire length of the upper cut, we should get the end of the belt protruding on the 4 cm, of which 1 cm is the allowance for the seam along a short cut. Instead of a note, you can use pins, as real dressmakers do.

Now you need to sew the details of the skirt on the machine, remove the basting, fix and cut the threads, iron the seam, and then press it on the belt. After that, it is necessary to press all the allowances of the belt (1 cm) on the wrong side. The waistband is bent so that its free long cut slightly touches the seam of the pricking, sweeping, combining and sweeping short sections. On the contour, postpone the belt to the edge. Remove the glue, iron the seams, fix and cut the threads. You can also bend the belt to the front side first, stitch off short cuts, cut off the corners obliquely, turn it out, sweep it out, iron it, and then sew the belt cut to the seam weld.

The obka with the belt is almost ready. It remains only to make a loop on the side that is sewn to the front half of the skirt, and to the protruding end to sew the button. The loop is sewn on the machine with a zigzag stitch, then carefully cut with small scissors. Now you know how to sew a belt to a skirt.
