How to make a horse from plasticine - a detailed master-class

Modeling a horse from plasticine - the work is not simple, but entertaining and creative. Before you start to implement your own idea, you need to choose the technique of execution and material. And the first and second largely depends on the ultimate goal. It also determines the appearance of the craft.

Material selection

With your hands a horse made of plasticine can be made, pursuing completely different goals. For example, the figure of an animal is quite suitable as a souvenir or a gift to a friend. In this case, it is better to use the solidifying material, which in time becomes similar to ceramics. If the goal of creating a plasticine horse is joint creativity with the child, it is ideal for soft and supple. It does not require long kneading and preparation for work.

In addition to the plasticine itself, you need to stock up a wooden or metal spatula with a sharp edge. With its help, cut a large piece into pieces, master small details, smooth out irregularities. Do not interfere with the cutting board, as well as auxiliary materials: wire, matches or toothpicks, threads and beads to decorate the mane. The table on which it is planned to work is better covered with paper or an oilcloth, especially if it is a question of children's creativity.

Panel or mosaic

This is one of the options for how to make a horse out of plasticine, so that it can serve as a gift or decoration of the interior. Both techniques suggest the creation of a two-dimensional composition. The main difference is that the mosaic, as a rule, implies a finer detail and painstaking work.

The materials will require a hardening plasticine, a background of dense cardboard, plywood or a sheet of opaque PVC, a simple pencil and a horse's stencil (you can buy it, cut it, take advantage of the picture you like, or do without a template at all). To complete the composition, you need a glass and a frame. Although this is not necessary, in addition, there is always the opportunity to go to the baguette workshop.

The first thing to do is to draw a contour of the figure on the background with a simple pencil and a stencil or draw a horse by hand without detailing it. Then, tearing out small pieces of plasticine of the desired color and attaching them to the surface, gradually create a panel or mosaic. Each fragment should be well kneaded, then it will stick to the background without any efforts and additional devices.

Particular attention should be paid to the details: mane, head, bridle, saddle. After all, they are the real springboard for creativity. When the work is completed, it is left to dry a little. After this, you can draw a picture frame and use it for your intended purpose.

Plasticine horse in children's creativity

Developing the imagination of younger students, it will be very useful to draw them to the fine arts, including modeling. Having created own plasticine farm, children will be happy to play it. Moreover, the process itself is both interesting and useful. The main thing - do not get hung up on the details, because small handles can be difficult to perform fine work. Therefore, the task should be simplified.

Before you fashion a horse from clay, you need to choose a color. It can be both traditional (black, brown, white), and unusual, bright (yellow, pink). In the latter case, a fairy-tale horse or even a unicorn will turn out. Quite funny look like figures, created from several contrasting pieces of plasticine, chaotically mixed. For example, yellow and red or blue and green.

In children's creativity, as a rule, do without a skeleton, but to make the clay horse more stable, its legs can be strengthened with matches. First, they mold the body by rolling up a figure of the necessary size and color. Separately, make the legs and head, and then connect all the elements, trying to smooth the joints. Muzzle is usually performed with a toothpick, drawing eyes, mouth and nostrils, or from a plasticine of a different color. The mane can be of the same material, thinly rolled up and cut with a wooden or metal knife, or from threads, wood, fringe. It all depends on what will be at hand.

And most importantly, what you need to remember, regardless of the result: a small sculptor must certainly be praised, and on his shortcomings and inaccuracies indicate as gently and tactfully as possible. Otherwise, the next time the child will simply not be interested in working with clay.

Toys for adults

If everything is more or less clear with children's creativity, then with a more traditional sculpture is a bit more complicated. Plasticine in art is used quite rarely, usually for a layout or rough work. But some sculptors see it as a completely valuable material for modeling.

To the horse turned out to be extremely similar to its living prototype, it is best to use a skeleton base. So before you make a horse out of plasticine, you need to form its skeleton of wood or wire.

How to make a skeleton

It can be made whole by the principle of a wire skeleton. Or partially strengthen the limbs of the sculpture with matches or toothpicks. In the first case, the sequence of actions is as follows. From the wire, the future body and head are arching, paws and tail are attached to them. Before you make a horse out of plasticine, the frame is fixed to make it easier to work with it.

In the second variant, the matches are inserted into the paws during their creation. To do this, they are enveloped on all sides with plasticine, leaving one end free. It is he who will be attached to the body.

Head and mane

These are the most complex elements of the figure. When creating the head, you have to do pretty fine work, drawing your eyes, nose and other small details. For this purpose, a toothpick, plastic knife or other sharp object will do. Mane is sometimes made of other materials, such as thread. Although if roll out plasticine thin enough and make several cuts, it will also come out very naturally.

After the wire has been completely stuck, and the horse will become recognizable, a scraper will help to bring it to an ideal, which is smoothened by all irregularities and inaccuracies.

There are quite a few ways of making a horse out of plasticine. Which one to use, which technique to choose and with which material to work, each sculptor decides himself. But both the specialist and the novice should understand that this work is not easy and requires patience.
