How to apply gibberellin for grapes?

To obtain high-quality and high yield, the period of flowering and tying of berries is extremely important. In order to grow the crop in unfavorable conditions, special feeding and care is required. Gibberellin for grapes is used as a growth activator, which stimulates flowering and prevents ovary failure.

What is gibberellin?

The drug gibberellin is a derivative of the parasitic fungus Fusarium. In 1938, its unique properties were discovered and created gibberellic acid - white crystals, soluble in alcohols, acetone, kerosene and insoluble in water.

If you use gibberellin for grapes, then know that it is able to accumulate in plants and activate cell division and stretching because of what growth occurs. In this case, the drug in the recommended concentration does not affect the root system, but if the norm is exceeded, it can cause irreparable harm.

When the plant passes into the flowering phase, the growth hormone prevents the fall of the peduncles and provokes the formation of fruits. In this case, the drug also affects the final size of the berries in a mature state. Substantial help is provided by gibberellins on cultures with a long light day, which suffer from a lack of lighting.

The results of processing the grapes with the drug

Gibberellin for grapes is used quite often not only at home, but also on an industrial scale.

Results and benefits of using the hormone:

  • Adverse weather conditions do not affect the formation of berries;
  • Flower noses under the influence of the drug attract nutrients to themselves, which gives more ovaries that do not crumble;
  • Bunches retain their presentation for a long time and are suitable for long-term transportation;
  • Many gardeners note an increase in the amount of sugar in berries;
  • Actively develop new shoots of the plant, as well as foliage.

The application of gibberellin on grapes shows good results in such cultivars as Rusbol, Rusbol muscat, kishmish Zaporozhye, Polinka, Talisman, Tairovsky pink, Kishmish radiant, Kishmish Moldovan. On these varieties, the effect of increasing the mass of berries and increasing their juiciness, especially on pitted varieties, was observed.

Instructions for use

Processing of grapes gibberellinum is carried out by the diluted preparation in water. For seedless varieties of culture, 100-150 mg of gibberellin per 1 liter of water is taken, for varieties with a female type of flower less - 25-30 mg per liter. Nuance is that the drug is difficult to dissolve in water, so before processing it should be diluted with a small amount of 90% alcohol, and only then mixed with water.

Gibberellin for grapes, the instruction to which is attached in the package of the drug, is applied as follows:

  1. The first spraying with a solution of inflorescences occurs during the flowering period. It is carried out with the help of a spray.
  2. The second method is similar after the formation of the ovary - after about 8-10 days.
  3. Third - control spraying is carried out after another 10 days. But already with a reduced dosage of the drug.

The Australian technology of processing grapes with gibberelline is that the first spraying is done not at the beginning of flowering, but in the end - when the ovary is being formed.

The drug gibberellin (instructions for use on grapes which states that the rules may vary depending on the type of grapes) should be used in compliance with all safety rules. It is also important to study the characteristics of this variety of berries before processing. Also, the feature of the hormone is that when processing plants with flowers of both sexes, the result may not be at all.

Nuances of storing gibberellin

In order not to lose the useful properties of the drug, you should follow the recommendations for storage indicated on the package - avoidance of direct sunlight and excessive moisture.

Water for stirring the drug is taken cleaned, with a minimum of harmful impurities. In addition, it is desirable to dissolve gibberellin before each use and not leave it in the bottle. With prolonged downtime, the solution may deteriorate - flocs form on the bottom of the container, which can trap the tube of the atomizer. Also in the dissolved form the preparation quickly loses useful properties.

Alternative methods of processing plants

Gibberellin for grapes is used not only by standard spraying from an atomizer, there are also alternative methods:

  • Injection of 2% solution of the drug in combed grapes (the place where the vine branches and forms a bunch);
  • The application of hormonal adhesive plaster (it can be made independently, it will be necessary to mix 15% gibberellin with 75% sugar powder and apply the composition to the plaster);
  • Dipping bunches into a container with a solution for several seconds.

Despite the fact that some methods seem unnatural, they give excellent results - the number of berries increases by 2-3 times, weight by 9-10 grams, and the size by 1.5 times. Gardeners also note the extremely time-consuming processing process, compared to traditional spraying.

Disadvantages of the drug

The abundance of merits does not exclude the presence of deficiencies in the drug. They include the following factors:

  1. Absence of a clear dosage of the substance, as well as expenditure norms - individual grape varieties require different concentrations, for some, the drug is not desirable at all.
  2. It takes a long time to calculate the dosage and prepare a working solution of the substance. At the same time, an incorrect amount of gibberellin can damage the plant.
  3. In addition to spraying, the means should create all the necessary conditions for the growth of berry crops, otherwise the labors will go to nothing. Therefore, the drug is often used in industrial cultivation or experienced gardeners.
  4. When spraying, use gloves and a face mask to avoid inhaling the vapors of the substance.
  5. It is not a substitute for fertilizers. The substance only provokes growth, while plants still require additional fertilizing and good growth conditions.

Despite these complexities of work with the substance, it is one of the most effective stimulants for the growth of fruit crops. In addition, the drug is non-toxic and harmless to humans and animals.

Effects on seeds

This drug has an effect on the growth of grapes of the Kishmish variety, which are distinguished by the absence of pits. However, when trying to grow a culture of seeds gibberellin shows good results.

In order to accelerate the germination of seeds, they should be soaked for 24 hours in a solution of the preparation. Then the seeds are placed in a warm moist place until the appearance of the first shoots, while the growers note increased germination.

The efficacy of gibberellin is also proved when applied to old seeds, which are considered to be non-viable.

Compatibility of the preparation with other acids

To obtain a good result in a short time gardeners often combine several drugs - growth promoters. How to apply gibberellin for grapes in combination with other hormones? The substance can be mixed with preparations based on oily or naphthalene-acetic acid. With such a combination, not only the growth of shoots and the increase in fruit, but also the active rooting increases. This helps to root the newly planted plants.

Care of the culture after processing

Despite the fact that the drug gives a boost to the active growth of the berry crop, do not forget about the necessary care, which is the key to a good harvest. The traditional complex of activities for growing grapes consists of the following:

  • Watering. The plant is considered one of the largest water lovers among all lianas. Therefore, in hot weather, watering should be carried out especially abundantly. An interesting feature is the fact that the greatest demand for grapes in the moisture during the growth of shoots (early spring), flowering, the formation and ripening of berries (in summer). At the same time under the bush should pour at least 2 buckets of water 4-5 times a week. It is better to do it in the evening.
  • Mulching of the soil is performed to maintain moisture in the root zone to avoid drying and cracking of the soil. For this, mowed grass, hay or straw can be used.
  • Feeding plays an important role in the development of berry crops. To obtain a guaranteed good harvest, it is required to make chemical and organic fertilizers during the period of active growth and formation of berries.
  • Timely harvesting prevents the breaking of lianas under the weight of grapes.

  • Preparing for winter is carried out as follows: the vines are cut to a height of 30-40 cm, then the root zone is covered with sand, and the cuttings are sheltered by a dense burlap or film. It is important to do this so that the plant does not die in the winter with an air temperature of -30 degrees. In the spring it is important to carefully release the vines from the shelters, sand or soil while it is leveled or taken out of the hole.

In addition, experienced gardeners know when to process grapes with gibberellin. During this period, they recommend abundantly watering the plants in order to fill the lack of moisture - so the drug will be better absorbed. Also, before using phytohormone, it is important to remember that gibberellin is a rather insidious substance that does not tolerate errors in dosage.
