How is the front wheel bearing replaced?

If, while driving in the car, you hear strange sounds near the front wheels, it may be that their source is a bearing. If you do not make the diagnosis and replacement of this part in time, the car will soon lose its controllability, so further operation of such a car is undesirable. Just note that this process requires special knowledge and tools. Replacement of the bearing of a nave of a forward wheel does not do without application of special pullers. Of course, some craftsmen manage to get out without them, but not always the result of such works will be justified. In addition, we will need a torque wrench, rubber "shoes" as a support for the car, a locksmith, a jack and a set of locksmith tools.

Getting Started

First, we need to remove from the hub protective cap, preventing the penetration of road dust to the bearing. To do this, you can use a minus screwdriver or a special blade. Next, bend the edge of the nut from the groove of the trunnion, then a little twist it. Then install under the wheels of the support so that the car does not roll off when lifting the front of the jack. For reliability, you can also include the parking brake. Next, unscrew the 4 bolts securing the wheel to the hub. Now we pick up the jack and install it in the front part of the vehicle. After this, the replacement of the front wheel bearing is accompanied by the dismantling of the brake pads. Then, unscrew the bearing mounting bolt and remove the steel washer located in the lower part.

In this case, the replacement of the front wheel bearing does not end. We have reached only half the process. In front we have to remove the hub with a puller and clamp it in the locksmith's vice to remove the lock ring (it fixes the bearing from the inside of the mechanism). Next, take a universal puller and remove the bearing. The disassembled hub must be thoroughly washed in a strong solution. Acids do not have to be applied, just simply clean the part in diesel or gasoline.

Replacement of the forward bearing of a nave of a wheel occurs in return sequence:

  1. First we press the new bearing.
  2. Then mount the snap ring.
  3. We place the hub on the pin and insert the washer.
  4. We twist the nuts and collect the brake pads.
  5. Mount the wheel back.
  6. Tighten the bearing nuts.
  7. Install the protective cap.
  8. We check the reliability of the fasteners.
  9. We leave the road!

At this stage, the question of how the front hub bearing is replaced can be considered closed. Finally I would like to note one detail. It is desirable to tighten the nuts of the hub bearing with a force of 250 N / m. A tightly tightened part will not serve for as long as the one that twisted in moderation.
