History of creation, success, characters and actors. "One at home" - the best family comedy

This Christmas comedy is rightfully called a family movie. And still cult, because "Alone at home" remained in the memory of many viewers as a film telling a kind and at the same time adventure story. The success of the picture, characters and actors "One at home" will be the main topic of our article.

Long road

The creation of the film boasts several facts. The idea appeared in the process of working on another picture, the comedy "Uncle Buck". Director Chris Columbus first developed scenarios related to the house and its individual elements, such as a basement oven that frightened the main character. Production required special effects and appropriate financing, which had to be abandoned. But the main idea - to stay in the house alone - the authors left, supplementing it with separate lines.

The performer of the main role, the young actor "One at home" Macaulay Culkin, who was then ten years old, was chosen by the creators in advance - he impressed with the game in "Uncle Buck". However, Chris Columbus still arranged a casting, having watched hundreds of applicants. For what? To make sure: no one better than Kalkin for the role is not found.

Good roles, like hot pies

The preparatory period took several months. The main surveys began in February 1990 and lasted until the spring. Anticipating the success of the picture, which was planned to release the new year, the creators paid attention to other characters. The actors "One house" included a number of diverse images, to search for which were presented special requirements.

So, the producers wanted that in the film, along with the young unknown actors, famous stars played. To get the role of Peter McCallister, auditioned Michael Douglas, Chevy Chase, Sean Penn, Tom Hanks, but eventually the image went to John Hurd. The list of contenders for the more dramatic role of mother Kevin Keith, who zealously tries to return home and find her son, came out more impressive: Jodie Foster, Sigourney Weaver, Sharon Stone, Laura Dern, Angelica Huston and others. They all lost to Catherine O'Hara.

Secondary characters turned out not less bright. The actors "One Home" replenished with Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci, who played the main bandits Harry and Marvin, nicknamed "wet" criminals. The latter, by the way, on the set showed sincere sympathy for Macaulay Culkin. In particular, in order that he soon became accustomed to the negative heroes and his main opponents in the person of Stern and Pesha, Joe remained in the appropriate makeup and image between the shootings. The role of the janitor Marley, with whom Kevin talks about life and love of loved ones, played Roberts Blossom.

Actor one role?

The success of the picture surpassed all expectations. She received a nomination for major awards - "Oscar" and "Golden Globe." And also brought to the cashier about 500 million dollars. Important role played by the actors of the film "Alone at home." Each of them has ideally approached under the image, therefore now it is difficult to present on their place someone another.

Macaulay Calkin became a truly popular favorite. The screenwriters awarded Kevin a sharp tongue, and many of his quotes and sayings became winged expressions. For a long time the young actor, growing up in front of the audience, embodied such images in such films as "Rich Ricci", "My Girl", "How to cope with the father."

Kalkin's career was often discussed in the press and, unfortunately, was ruined by him. Macaulay was credited with addiction to drugs and alcohol. Even during the filming of the creators of the tape "One Home", disagreements arose with his father, who demanded a substantial increase in the fee for his son. Now Kalkin is rarely removed, and if this happens, then his appearance on the screen is associated mainly with episodic roles in serials or little-known paintings.

The long-awaited sequel: good luck ...

The success of the movie "One at home" did not leave the creators of choice - just finished shooting the first part, as work began on the continuation. "Lost in New York" brought no less money, increasing, by the way, Kalkin's fee from 100 thousand to 4.5 million dollars. This time the narrative is built around Kevin and his family, who went on vacation. At the airport, by chance, Kevin mixed up the flight and now was in New York. However, he will not be bored: the escaped robbers Harry and Marvin will meet him again in the streets of the big city.

The main cast of the sequel, including Catherine O'Hara and John Hurd, remained the same.

... and a failure

On the success of the franchise can be said, having in mind the first two parts. The real failure was the subsequent parts, in particular, "Alone at home 3". The actors of trikvel are represented by new faces. The main character named Alex is Alex D. Linz, known for the melodrama "One fine day."

In the film there are not two, but four bandits trying to get into the house to the little boy. They were played by Ria Kilstedt, Olek Krupa, Lenny Von Dolen and David Thornton. The third part is in no way connected with the originals, borrowing only the idea of a house. Unlike them, the trikvale is more "stuffed" with modern traps, which the protagonist uses to save his home. "Alone at home 3," whose actors tried to repeat the success of the previous parts of the franchise, unfortunately, the former popularity was not won. It did not help even the name of the beginning actress Scarlett Johansson, who played the role of Alex's sister. Initially, it was conceived neutral, and after a positive character.

Perhaps someday Hollywood companies will return to the idea of making a remake of the cult family comedy. Get it or not, time will tell. In the meantime, one thing is obvious. The plot, the characters, the familiar actors "One at home" and the subsequent sequel "Lost in New York" remain the best and recognized spectators.
