Galina Ulanova: biography, personal life. House-museum of Galina Ulanova

Ulanova Galina Sergeevna (the biography is presented below) - the famous Russian ballerina and teacher. People's Artist of the USSR. Repeated owner of many state prizes. She received the following international awards: the Oscar Parselli Prize, the Anna Pavlova Prize and the Commander's Order for Achievements in the Sphere of Literature and Art. She was an honorary member of the American Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Childhood

Galina Ulanova was born in St. Petersburg in 1909. Both parents of the girl were ballet dancers at the Mariinsky Theater. Father - Sergey Nikolayevich - worked as a ballet director, and my mother - Maria Fedorovna - taught choreography. During the difficult post-revolutionary years, Galina's parents performed in theaters before the shows of the paintings. The girl had no one to leave home with, so I had to take her with me. Through the whole city in the snow or rain they walked with Galina in their arms to the unheated rooms. And then, shivering from the cold, Maria Fyodorovna took off her felt boots, put on the pointe shoes, and with a smile came out to the audience.

At the age of 9, my mother identified the girl in a choreographic school. Before entering Maria Fyodorovna came with her daughter to church and prayed that Galina was accepted and she was well-trained. But little Ulanova had no desire to become a ballerina. Galina did not want to practice and constantly asked her mother to take her back. Young Ulanova loved to wear a sailor, swim and go fishing with her father. In general, the girl dreamed of surfing the sea.

Once in the orphanage, Galina Ulanova withdrew into herself. The first classes were associated with hard work, fainting pupils and cold halls. In the distant 1922 Galina together with Slava Zakharov danced the mazurka in "Paquita". Then no one even imagined that the girl would make a great ballerina, and the boy would become a famous ballet master.

First performances

In 1928 Galina Ulanova (biography, personal life of the actress known to all her fans) graduated from the choreography school. As a result of the graduation performance, the girl was admitted to the Leningrad Ballet and Opera Theater (later the Kirov Theater). The debut performance of the ballerina took place at the Mariinsky Theater. A talented actress immediately attracted the attention of critics. Odette Odile in Swan Lake - this was the first game that Galina Ulanova danced at the age of 19. The height, the weight of the ballerina at that time were 165 centimeters and 48 kilograms respectively.

«Bakhchsarai Fountain»

This performance, staged by Rostislav Zakharov, made a lot of noise in the theatrical life of the Northern capital. The premiere was also interested in Moscow. Galina Ulanova, whose personal life was very rich, played one of the leading roles. The audience and critics were delighted. It was decided to organize a tour. By the way, the initiator of this was Klimenty Voroshilov. Just a People's Commissar of Defense of the USSR liked the performance very much. In 1935 the "Bakhchisarai Fountain", together with "Esmeralda" and "Swan Lake" was brought to Moscow.

Acquaintance with Stalin

For the first time, Iosif Vissarionovich saw Ulanova in Esmeralda. The ballerina played the part of Diana. In the course of the play, Galina took aim from the bow in the direction of the box where Stalin was sitting. The ballerina's heart froze: the NKVD could easily accuse the actress of attempting the leader. But everything worked out - Joseph Vissarionovich invited to the Kremlin the whole troupe.

After the banquet, Galina, 25, was asked to go to the cinema and be seated next to the leader. Later, journalists asked Ulanova whether she was afraid. The ballerina said that there was no fear, only a feeling of embarrassment because of Stalin's high status.

Iosif Vissarionovich estimated the ballerina as follows: "Galina is a classic." Four times the actress was awarded the Stalin Prize. But, despite the received titles and titles, Ulanova did not want to have any relationship with the authorities. Although it was the Kremlin that turned it into an ideological icon and a symbol of the Soviet ballet.

The first novel

In 1940, the premiere of the performance "Romeo and Juliet" was held. It is clear that the main character played Ulyanov. And the role of Romeo went to Konstantin Sergeyev. Over time, their play on the stage grew into love. According to others, a very deep feeling arose between Galina and Constantine. Sergeev always called Ulanov on you.

It all ended with the transfer of the ballerina to the capital. Their duo broke up, and Constantine himself left the show and did not dance Romeo with anyone else.

Job in Moscow

After the war, Galina Ulanova's life changed. The management made it clear to her that she needed to move to Moscow. And the ballerina was transferred almost in an orderly manner. This was a big blow for Galina, because she was separated not only from her favorite theater and her favorite city, but also from her beloved.

There were no relatives in the capital, so the dancer lived in hotels. The management and colleagues of the ballerina treated her kindly. Galina, in turn, also tried not to disappoint them. Ulanova was not deprived of awards and titles, but tried to make a columnar noblewoman from her.

Although if Galina Sergeevna was against, then any question was withdrawn by itself. Once the secretary of the party committee of the Bolshoi Theater asked her to speak and thank the country's leadership on behalf of the artists. Ulanova said she was doing ballet, not politics. More of her with such requests did not disturb. But any parade performance or "court" concert could not do without the participation of a ballerina.

Personal life

Probably, this is the only topic that Galina Ulanova was not very fond of talking about. The actress's husbands in most cases were respectable aged people. According to rumors, she entered the first marriage at the age of 17 years. Elected Galina was a bald accompanist Isaak Melikovsky. But soon they parted. The second marriage of Ulanova was also short-lived. Children never had an actress. Already at an age, Galina Sergeevna confessed that parents were forbidden to give birth to her. The mother made it clear to the girl that the children and the stage life are simply incompatible.

Marriage with Zavadsky

Ulanova met Yuri Zavadsky on vacation in Barvikha. He was older than Galina for 16 years. The girl strongly sunk into his heart. Soon Zavadsky came to Petersburg to get the hand of a famous ballerina. Yuri did it, although later the couple lived in different apartments and rarely met. After the war, Zavadsky and Ulanova divorced, but remained close friends. Yuri regularly went to his ex-wife for tea. And for the director's funeral, the dancer sent a wreath with the inscription: "Zavadsky from Ulanova."

The brightest novel

He happened with the actor and director Ivan Bersenev. Lovers spent together two wonderful years. Ivan Nikolaevich lived with his previous wife - Sofya Hyacintova - for thirty-five years. He was very fond of his wife and was hard at the break, but could not help it. First, Ivan and Galina met at the Metropole, and then moved to Ulanova's apartment on Novoslobodskaya. After Bersenev's death in 1951, the ballerina moved to a high-rise building on Kotelnicheskaya Street. At the funeral of Ivan Nikolaevich two women were dying at the grave: the dancer Galina Ulanova and the legal wife Sofya Hyacintova.

Meeting with Ryndin

In the late 50's the ballerina met Vadim Ryndin. He worked as an artist at the Bolshoi Theater. Like her previous companions, Ryndin was very fond of Galina. But the artist had a weakness, which he could not overcome, - addiction to alcohol. As a result, Ulanova simply drove him away.

Once the ballerina was asked if she regretted anything in her personal life. After thinking, Galina Sergeevna answered that she would like to have a family, a home, and learn how to cook well. But even after the end of her career, she could not do it.

Farewell performance

In 1960 Galina Ulanova (biography, the personal life of the artist presented in this article) gave a farewell performance at the Bolshoi Theater. The actress danced "Chopiniana". Between her debut staging and the farewell party passed a whole era.

Galina left the stage, but did not leave the theater. More than thirty years she worked as a teacher-coach, having brought up a whole galaxy of such talented students as Marika Sabirova, Lyudmila Semenyaka, Nina Semizorova, Nina Timofeeva, Ekaterina Maksimova, Vladimir Vasilyev, and others.

Monument opening

In 1990, a solemn opening of the monument in honor of Galina Ulanova was held in Stockholm. This was the only monument to the Russian man in the West, put to him during his lifetime.

When the journalists asked Bengdt Hegger (the president of the UNESCO Dance Commission) why the choice fell on Ulanova, he called the ballerina "the highest height in art". Hegger also talked about her unique ability to convey to people through ballet simple human feelings - truth, goodness and beauty.

Galina Ulanova herself during the opening of the monument modestly stood on the sidelines and did not even look at her bronze statue. And when the camera was sent to the ballerina, she retreated behind someone's back or hid her face in the fur collar, stubbornly repeating that the monument was not put to her, but to the ballet.

About the West and Nuriev

In one of the interviews Galina Ulanova, whose growth was mentioned above, spoke about the West as follows: "They are all very sensible and rationally arranged." But when she was asked about whether she would like to live there, the ballerina answered in the negative.

Everyone knew that the famous artist Rudolf Nureyev was forced to leave his homeland and live in Europe. Every time Galina Sergeevna came to Paris, he expressed a desire to meet her. She never condemned his non-return in public, but refused delicately from meetings. Nuriyev always sent flowers to the hotel room Ulanova. Rudolph himself was never admitted to it.

Acquaintance with Agafonova

In the late 70's Galina Ulanova, whose biography is an example for all dancers, met with journalist Tatyana Agafonova. She became the personal secretary of the artist and settled in her apartment. Tatyana was younger than the great ballerina for 20 years. Their cohabitation caused confusion among all, and also generated a lot of gossip and gossip. Gradually, old acquaintances and friends became rare guests in the Ulanovsk house.

Tatiana completely relieved Galina Sergeevna of domestic worries. After all, Ulanova did not even know how to call plumbing, if the tap goes. She had no idea where the savings bank was, and she could not turn on the TV and the washing machine. In 1993, Agafonova was seriously ill. Galina Sergeevna has learned to cook, to do massage and began to look after Tatyana. Ulanova even had to abandon long trips, but she did not quit the job and went to the theater every day. In 1994 Agafonova died.

Loneliness

Galina Ulanova was hard to survive the death of Tatiana and strongly surrendered. Almost a year the actress spent in the hospital, and then returned to her empty apartment. Many people offered to help her, but Galina Sergeyevna thanked and politely refused. She herself was engaged in cleaning, went to the store, cooked. And the dishes were the simplest - sandwiches and stewed vegetables. Ulanova was very happy when friends came to visit and brought her cottage cheese or fruit. Galina Sergeevna did not understand much of what was happening in the world around her. She stopped reading newspapers and watching TV. The actress again got used to loneliness. On receiving the "Golden Mask" award in 1995, the ballerina was surprisingly communicative - she spoke about the meaning of art and told about her own life. But no one heard the actress. What really Ulanova was not denied, it's in sincerity. After reading the verse of Bella Akhmadullina, dedicated to Maya Plisetskaya, she said with a ironic smile to the poet: "I read the text four times, but could not understand anything. It's a pity that no one will write about me. "

Last years

A few years before his death Galina Ulanova (photo above) was more willing to meet with journalists and give interviews. I talked on the phone for a long time, trying to break my long silence. Somehow the reporter reproached the ballerina for her unwillingness to talk about her personal life. And Galina Sergeevna answered that she simply does not understand the craving of modern people for intimacy.

At the end of 1997, the ballerina made her last trip to St. Petersburg. Ulanova walked around the city, and then went to the cemetery, to visit the graves of her relatives. Galina Sergeevna wanted to be buried next to her parents. But the desire of the actress was not destined to come true.

She died in 1998 at the age of 88 years. A great ballerina was buried at Novodevichye Cemetery. Shortly before her death, the actress destroyed all the papers relating to her personal life. In 2004, the house-museum of Galina Ulanova was opened on Kotelnicheskaya Embankment, which anyone can visit. He is located in the apartment of a high-rise building, where the artist moved in 1986. The exposition presents works of decorative and applied art and fine arts, as well as letters, photographs, posters and other memorial things. The library of the museum has 2400 books. The situation in the apartment is fully preserved.
